WICKET Byrom (lbw Harmer) 42published at 12:36 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Somerset 324 & 97-4 v Essex 191

Simon Harmer was often 'the man' for Essex in their march to the title last summer and it looks like he may be so again at Taunton. Eddie Byrom's two-and-a-half hour vigil comes to an end as the South African wins an lbw verdict from the umpire.

However, Somerset are 230 ahead and they have two pretty handy spinners of their own - Messrs Leach and Bess.

  2. Pears build a huge lead after Mitchell falls for 178published at 12:35 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 v Worcs 423-2

An appeal for a bat-pad catch at forward short leg but the umpire isn't interested, so Joe Clarke survives.

Matt Fisher to bowl at the other end.

    The lead is 207.

  3. wicket

WICKET Alsop c Carter b Footitt 99published at 12:27 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 327-6 v Notts 166

Tom Alsop comes within a whisker of being caught at backward point but gets away with it and runs two to get to 99.

And he's out! The batsman plays a shot to the same area and there's no escape this time.

Heartbreaking for Alsop but a fine innings nonetheless.

    The lead is 438.

A wicket at last for Yorkshire! Daryl Mitchell miscues a drive and Tim Bresnan makes a tumbling catch at slip.

Magnificent innings. 178 from 333 balls with 22 fours. The stand was worth just six short of 300.

    Somerset 324 & 88-3 v Essex 191

That's a vital wicket for Essex as Simon Harmer floats one up and it turns enough to take an inside edge and pop up to Ravi Bopara at leg-slip. Somerset are 218 in front as James Hildreth walks out to join Eddie Byrom, who is still there on 36.

  6. Mitchell and Ali pile on the runspublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 v Worcs 400-1

Adam Lyth is into the attack and Moeen Ali drives him over his head for four runs to take the score to 400.

Quite a stand from this pair, who have already put on 289 runs.

Worcs' overall second wicket record is 316 by Stephen Moore and Vikram Solanki against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham in 2008.

  7. Yorkshire up against it at Scarboroughpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 v Worcs 389-1

A slice of luck for Daryl Mitchell who drives hard at a ball from Tim Bresnan and gets an inside edge down to fine leg for four.

Then he connects with a cover drive and runs a single.

This time Moeen Ali gets a bit of luck as he slices a drive to backward point for one.

Six off the over and the Pears lead by 173.

  8. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    • Northamptonshire's Rory Kleinveldt has just removed England batsmen Dawid Malan and Eoin Morgan for four and nought in successive overs at Wantage Road. Middlesex are 92-4 after following on and need another 67 to avoid an innings defeat.
    • Bad news for Leicestershire at Grace Road where opener Harry Dearden has been caught off Darren Stevens for 74. They are 189-8 against Kent and the lead is 214.
    • Derbyshire are trying to regroup at Hove after the loss of two wickets, reaching 370-7, with Daryn Smit 12 not out and Tony Palladino on 5. They trail Sussex by 70.

  9. wicket

WICKET Rossouw lbw b Fletcher 36published at 12:07 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 319-5 v Notts 166

    Luke FletcherImage source, Getty Images

Luke Fletcher into the attack. He bowls an off cutter which Rilee Rossouw tries to work to leg and he's struck on the pad...

Too high? No! The umpire gives him out!

That ends a handy partnership of 74.

Gareth Berg joins Tom Alsop in the middle.

  10. Hampshire on the chargepublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 319-4 v Notts 166

Mark Footitt is getting a bit of stick here. Bowling the 85th over of the innings Tom Alsop clips him through the leg side for four and he concedes tow more boundaries off Rilee Roussouw - one through point and one off the edge down to third man.

Hampshire really accelerating now. They lead by 430.

  11. Somerset content to accumulatepublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Somerset 324 & 70-2 v Essex 191

    Eddie ByromImage source, Rex Features

It's steady stuff at Taunton after the earlier over when Azhar Ali hit three fours off Jamie Porter. The Pakistan batsman is 21 not out, with Eddie Byrom on 23, and Somerset's lead is now over 200.

They are in the driving seat and Essex need someone to take the key out of the ignition pretty quickly.

  12. Mitchell and Ali dominate at Scarboroughpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 v Worcs 361-1

Tim Bresnan comes into the attack and Moeen Ali belts him for the second maximum of his innings and takes a single off the fourth.

Mitchell adds a couple more at the end.

This is now a record stand for the Pears against the White Rose county.

Yorkshire are 145 runs in the red.

  13. Alsop and Rossouw pile the pressure on Nottspublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 296-4 v Notts 166

Tom Alsop drives Mark Footitt through backward point to bring up the 50 partnership for the fifth wicket off 98 balls.

Tough times for Notts - who are now more than 400 adrift.

  14. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

We have three games active in the second division...

Northants will be looking to wrap up a win with time to spare at Northampton where Middlesex are 70-1 in their second innings and trailing by 89.

Leicestershire were building a useful lead over Kent at Grace Road but the visitors have fought back well with two wickets inside the first hour's play, with Ben Raine and Callum Parkinson both falling early today. Ivan Thomas has five second innings wickets to date - the first five wicket haul of his career. The home side are 168-7 and lead by 193.

Derbyshire were chipping away at the Sussex lead at Hove, but they've also lost a couple of early wickets, with Matt Critchley and Alex Hughes both dismissed by Ollie Robinson. The visitors are now 349-7 and the deficit stands at 91.

  15. Essex ring the changespublished at 11:42 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Somerset 324 & 59-2 v Essex 191

After Jamie Porter's expensive over (see 11:25 entry), Essex have brought Australian Peter Siddle into the attack at Taunton. His latest over costs two runs and a leg bye and now it's time for spin, with Simon Harmer. The Somerset lead is 192.

  16. new ball

New ball taken by Nottspublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Hants 277 & 290-4 v Notts 160

Kraigg Brathwaite is into the attack and Rilee Rossouw pulls a well-flighted ball to the leg side for two.

Luke Fletcher will bowl at the other end.

He'll bowl with the new ball.

  17. 150 runs

150 for Daryl Mitchellpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Yorks 216 v Worcs 341-1

Darly Mitchell tucks Matt Fisher down to square leg and runs three to move to 147. Three more runs to Moeen Ali off the second ball.

Mitchell fences at the third and gets a thick edge just short of second slip. Fisher strays down leg and Mitchell gets a couple more...

And there it is! He drives the next ball through the off side to move to 150. Great knock from the Worcestershire stalwart. 299 balls and 19 fours.

  18. DURHAM BEAT GLAMORGAN BY INNS & 30 RUNSpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 21 August 2018
    Breaking

    Glamorgan 154 & 111 v Durham 295

    Chris RushworthImage source, Rex Features

Nelson, or more accurately Chris Rushworth, does for Glamorgan at Cardiff as the Welsh county manage to add only 32 to their overnight 79-7 before succumbing to defeat.

Last man Michael Hogan attempts to lift a ball from Rushworth over mid-wicket, but the ball hits middle stump as the seamer takes five wickets in an innings for the 20th time in his career.

Rushworth finishes with 5-28 and match figures of 8-64 as Durham wrap up their third Championship win of the summer with five and a bit sessions to spare, lifting them to fifth in Division Two, at least temporarily.

They take 21 points, bottom of the table Glamorgan collect three.

WICKET Carey (b Rushworth) 1published at 11:25 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Glamorgan 154 & 105-9 v Durham 295

Glamorgan are teetering on the brink after Chris Rushworth's second success of the morning - wicket 393 of his first-class career. Lukas Carey has no answer to an excellent delivery and his nine-ball innings is done.

Last man Michael Hogan starts with a well-struck boundary, and Ruaidhri Smith is 21 not out at the other end. Not long now.

  20. Azhar makes racing startpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 21 August 2018

    Somerset 324 & 48-2 v Essex 191

Quality from Azhar Ali as the Pakistan batsman helps himself to three boundaries in one over from Jamie Porter. The first is a superb on-drive and it's followed by a well-timed nudge backward of point and a leg glance. An expensive over costs Essex 15.
