What a day of wicket-taking feats on the first day of this week's games.

Not a great advert for fans of four-day cricket in September. But, for those who like to get it all over and done with in three (or even two) days, then this is the stuff!

The most, 19, fell at Lord's as Kent reached 189-9, a potentially priceless lead, after bowling out hosts Middlesex for 161.

A further 15 went down at Cardiff, where Glamorgan were bowled out for 137, then hit back by leaving Gloucestershire 137-5 at the close.

Warwickshire fast bowlers Keith Barker and Olly Stone each took three wickets, while England's Chris Woakes claimed two, and a run-out, in bowling out Leicestershire for 100, but Dom Sibley then made 106 as the leaders made batting look a little easier, reaching 190-3 at the close.

At Wantage Road, Alex Hughes had a good day for Derbyshire.

After taking 4-57 to help bowl out Northamptonshire for 255, he was then unbeaten on 38 at the close as the visitors reached 60-2.

But, up at Chester-le-Street, after bad light in the morning session, then rain after tea, only 27.3 overs)of play was possible, during which Durham collapsed to 92-7 against promotion hopefuls Sussex.

Hampshire end day one with a handy lead of 36 against Somerset, with one wicket still in hand.

We've seen a half-century courtesy of Sam Northeast and a staggering 19 wickets, including a five-wicket haul for Hampshire's Kyle Abbott.

Fidel Edwards (4*) and Abbott (7*) will come back out for the hosts first thing tomorrow.

We're into the penultimate over in Southampton and Fidel Edwards gets off the mark with a cover drive.

He's got Kyle Abbott alongside him and Hampshire are 137-9 against Somerset, with a lead of 31 runs.

Ryan ten Doeschate and Jamie Porter see out the final six overs of the day and Essex close on 133-5.

It looked like being so much better when they were 93-2 but three wickets in 11 balls has made the game look more even.

Essex are 44 runs adrift of Notts' first-innings total of 177.

Despite Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s superb unbeaten 105 - his second century in two matches, it's Lancashire's day in the Roses Match relegation crunch, for sure.

Having bowled out Yorkshire for 209, openers Alex Davies (57) and Karl Brown (43) have reached stumps unparted, having already gone past the halfway mark in overhauling Yorkshire's total.

But for TKC's ton, what sort of a mess would the Tykes be in?

Notts 177 v Essex 109-4

It's a 50 on debut for India batsman Murali Vijay.

He was dropped at mid-on on 43 but has otherwise looked assured while his team-mates have lost their composure somewhat.

It's come from 89 balls and included eight boundaries. Essex are 109-4 and 68 runs behind Notts' first-innings total.

Leicestershire 100, Warwickshire 180-2

A century for Warwickshire vice-captain Dom Sibley, who is now on 106 not out. Only a second of the summer for the Bears. And this one surpasses the 104 he made against Kent at Tunbridge Wells in June.

But it has put the Division Two leaders firmly on top at Grace Road.

After putting on 123 for the first wicket with Will Rhodes (37), he then saw Ian Bell depart second ball for a single. But he has now put on a further 54 with Jonathan Trott (28).
