  2. 50 runs

50 Ed Barnardpublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Worcestershire 264-6 (v Surrey)

Ed Barnard becomes Worcestershire's third half-centurion of the day.

The England Lions all rounder has taken 71 balls, and hit 10 fours, in making his third first-class fifty of the season.

He has steadily improved season on season with both bat and ball since first coming on the scene in 2015, along with fellow England Under-19s team-mate Joe Clarke. And he is on course to do so again.

Clarke has been labelled an England contender for some time now. And, given his success in one-day cricket too, as part of the first Worcestershire side to reach T20 Finals Day, it may not be too long before Barnard gets called a genuine 'England hopeful' too.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Sam Northeastpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Hampshire 114-6 v Somerset 106

Sam Northeast reaches his half-century with consecutive boundaries, as Hampshire pass Somerset's first-innings total.

It's taken him 91 balls - on a day where 16 wickets have fallen it's a highly impressive knock.

He's on 51 with Liam Dawson on 23. Hampshire 114-6 with a lead of eight runs.

    Whiteley c Pope b Morkel 91 (Worcestershire 248-6)

    Surrey celebrateImage source, Getty Images

Cracking ball from Morne Morkel gets Ross Whiteley, well caught two handed by Ollie Pope in the gully.

A real shame he couldn't make it to his century. But it's still his highest score at New Road - in all three formats of the game.

  5. Whiteley going wellpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Worcestershire 240-5 v Surrey

Ross Whiteley will turn 30 in three days' time - and he is hoping to have something to celebrate.

The man best renowned for his big-hitting one-day ability has had a mixed time of it in Championship cricket down the years.

He has only ever made three first-class centuries - two for Derbyshire and one for Worcestershire, and that was three years ago, against Yorkshire at Scarborough.

  6. Postpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Notts 177 v Essex 81-1

One that went under the radar...

Jamie Porter's 4-50 for Essex earlier takes him to 250 first-class wickets.

It looks a crucial contribution in the match as Notts are very much on the back foot right now at Trent Bridge.

  7. Postpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Hampshire 91-6 v Somerset 106

Sam Northeast moves onto 35 - the highest individual score of the day in Southampton.

Only four batsmen have scored more than 13 and one of them is Northeast's partner Liam Dawson (16*), as the bowlers get revenge on the batsman after the T20 Blast.

Hampshire should now surpass Somerset's first-innings total of 106.

  8. Postpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Notts 177 v Essex 74-1

We know the quality Murali Vijay brings to the table, but the India batsman is already looking like an astute signing for Essex.

He's on 37 - the biggest score at Trent Bridge today - and has a good partner in Tom Westley.

How much of a lead can Essex get over Notts, who were dismissed for 177?

  9. Durham 'in a pickle' againpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Durham 92-7 v Sussex

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Rain and bad light reduced day one to just 27.3 overs in Chester-le-Street. However, that was enough time for the hosts to get themselves into an all too familiar pickle with the bat.

Too many times this season they have been bowled out cheaply and this looks like it will be another example.

Such has been the paucity of home runs in a first innings this year that they have managed just two batting points here.

  10. rain stops play

Play abandoned in Durhampublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Durham 92-7 v Sussex

    Adrian Harms
    Sports reporter, BBC Sussex

There will be no further play at Chester-le-Street today because of rain.

Just 27.3 overs have been bowled but Sussex will be pleased with their shortened day’s work, having reduced the hosts to 92-7.

The Sussex seamers have exploited the gloomy floodlit conditions to the full, helped by some excellent catching, particularly in the slips.

    Worcestershire 209-5 v Yorkshire

Worcestershire have earned their first batting point of the day after going past 200. A pretty good effortt against county champions elect Surrey, dominated by half centuries from first Tom Fell and now Ross Whiteley too.

Whiteley, who is still there on a season's best 81, has so far put on 57 for the sixth wicket with fellow England Lions man Ed Barnard (24).

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Browne b Mullaney 24 (Notts 177 v Essex 56-1)

Notts captain Steven Mullaney brings himself into the attack and it has the desired effect.

He gets one to nip back and Nick Browne is bowled for 24 and Essex are 56-1 - still looking good in their reply to Notts' 177 all out.

Tom Westley leaves his first ball, with India batsman Murali Vijay (26*) at the other end.

  14. Tykes still seek breakthroughpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Yorkshire 209, Lancashire 49-0

Alex Davies has now moved on to 36 in what is starting to look a useful Lancashire reply to Yorkshire's 209 in the Roses Match.

His partner Karl Brown is on 12.

After six overs of Ben Coad, three from Jack Brooks and four for himself, Tykes skipper Steven Patterson has turned to that great competitor Tim Bresnan in their search for a White Rose breakthrough.

He needs just one wicket to total 50 in Roses Matches, in which he has always revelled since first facing the Red Rose in 2005. in fact, there are only two other first-class counties who he has taken more wickets against, Durham (66) and Notts (53).

    Holland 2 b J Overton (Hampshire 68-6 v Somerset 106)

Another one falls for Hampshire and Jamie Overton's swing is once again the key weapon.

It's a fuller, better length - Ian Holland plays down the wrong line and is bowled for just two.

Hampshire 68-6. Might Somerset emerge with a surprise first innings lead?

WICKETpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Alsop lbw Overton 1 (Hampshire 62-5 v Somerset 106)

The sixth LBW dismissal of the day and 15th wicket in all...

Tom Alsop plays no shot and Craig Overton gets some swing which brings the ball back in.

It's a beauty and Alsop can have no complaints - Hampshire 62-5 and Ian Holland joins Sam Northeast.

    Durham 92-7 v Sussex

After losing almost all of the morning session due to bad light, they're now off again at Chester-le Street.

    For rain this time.

Probably just as well with Durham on 92-7 and not faring too well against T20 Blast finalists Sussex.

  18. Back under way in Southamptonpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Hampshire 62-4 v Somerset 106

Tom Alsop walks out alongside Sam Northeast as Hampshire resume after tea on 62-4, 44 runs behind Somerset's first-innings total.

Northeast is on 24 while Alsop is the new batsmen following the dismissal of James Adams before the break.

Luke Fletcher gets a bit of a zip on the ball and beats Nick Browne all ends up two balls in a row.

The Essex opener survives on both occasions as the ball whizzes past the outside edge.

Browne and Murali Vijay have guided the visitors to 32-0 at Trent Bridge in reply to Notts' 177.

  20. Abbott continues fine formpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 10 September 2018

    Hampshire 59-4 v Somerset 106

While we wait for play to resume after tea at the Ageas Bowl, here are some numbers which show how good Hampshire Kyle Abbott has been of late.

The South African seamer's 5-31 was his third five-wicket haul in as many games, while he has 24 scalps since the County Championship returned following the T20 Blast.

The hosts hope to reap the rewards of his efforts and take a sizeable lead going into the second innings.
