Will Surrey seal the title? Who will win the so-called relegation Roses match?

The only consolation for Sussex after their heavy defeat by Durham in Chester-le-Street was that losing in three days gives the T20 Blast semi-finalists an extra 24 hours to recover ahead of Saturday's Finals Day at Edgbaston.

They now trail County Championship Division Two leaders Warwickshire by 33 points going into next week's home game against the Bears at Hove, their penultimate game. But head coach Jason Gillespie says the key thing is learning from their mistakes.

"To lose 20 wickets in 57 overs and not bowl to the standards we set ourselves particularly in the Durham second innings is disappointing," he told BBC Sussex.

"Individually and, as a collective, the players need to ask themselves some honest questions about how they could have been more effective in this game. We've got to learn from this experience."

They're done for the day at Northants, with the hosts losing Brett Hutton for a duck before close.

The home side will start tomorrow morning 198-8 - a handy lead of 231 over Derbyshire.

Hardus Viljoen and Ravi Rampaul have seven wickets between them for the visitors.

It might only take three balls for Yorkshire to win the Roses match tomorrow, whereas Lancashire supporters will be praying for a miracle - and hope at the very least that they make the game last a bit longer than that.

But, whatever the precise outcome, it won't cost anything to watch it.

Just one match still playing and it's at Wantage Road, where Northants are setting Derbyshire a testing total.

It could have been so much better though, as they've collapsed from 154-2 to 188-7.

Northants have a lead of 221, with three wickets in hand before their visitors start the run-chase.

There are 2.3 overs left in the day.

Glamorgan have gone from 101-7 to 231-9 at close to take their Division Two match with Gloucestershire to a fourth day.

Timm van der Gugten's first county 50 was the standout knock, with him eventually going for 54.

They lead Gloucestershire by 18 runs with one wicket left, so Glamorgan will still need a minor miracle to avoid defeat.

What a great start by the Surrey openers at New Road as the county champions elect chase down 272 to win the game and seal the title.

Discarded England opener Mark Stoneman has made 37, while Rory Burns is on 33.

Worcestershire, the only team not to have lost to Surrey in the County Championship this season, had hopes of causing an upset.

But, in truth, they really needed wickets in this evening's final session.

A draw would do, but Surrey now need just 202 more to win tomorrow and confirm their 19th county title - and their first since 2002.

Murali Vijay and Tom Westley have formed the kind of partnership which could give Essex victory at Trent Bridge.

India batsman Vijay (73*) and Westley (45*) have taken the visitors to 147-1 at close, with another 135 runs required.

Notts aren't out of it by any means but will need a very productive first session in the morning to turn the tide.

The signs were there earlier when he shook hands with all his team-mates before the game, but it seems Durham skipper Paul Collingwood will call time on his glittering cricket career.

The 42-year-old all-rounder, who played 68 Tests for England, led his country to victory against Australia in the World T20 Final.

He scored more than 1,000 County Championship runs last season, averaging 50 - and totals 16,844 runs in his 304 first-class matches. He has also made 428 List A appearances and played in 148 T20 games.

As well as trying to escape relegation in the County Championship, Worcestershire have another big date this weekend - Saturday's first-ever trip to T20 Finals Day in Birmingham .

Sadly, they only had 470 tickets to distribute to supporters for the largely pre-sold-out annual event at the 25,000-capacity Edgbaston.

Something that has caused a great deal of upset 30 miles away at New Road - as well as for the other four semi-finalists, Somerset, Sussex and Lancashire, who also sold out their allocation very quickly.

The ECB have already promised to review ticket-selling arrangements for 2019.

But Worcestershire have at least attempted to make some reparation by arranging for the game to be shown in the pavilion. Admission free of charge.

Fair play to Glamorgan - and Timm van der Gugten - they've gone from 101-7, and a probable innings defeat, to 218-8 against Gloucestershire.

Van der Gugten has his first county 50 and Glamorgan now have a lead of two runs. Gloucestershire will need to bat again, though they're still overwhelming favourites at Sophia Gardens.

In the other remaining Division Two game, Northants have lost three wickets in nine balls and are now 178-5 against Derbyshire.

They're still in a decent position, with a lead of 211 and five wickets in hand.

Surrey's openers Mark Stoneman and Rory Burns remain unparted in pursuit of their 272-run victory target - and they have already gone past the 50-mark.

Burns has reached 27 and Stoneman 25.

After being blown away by Morne Morkel, the home players are starting to look as disappointed as the home supporters.

Murali Vijay (still wearing Simon Harmer's top) has his second half-century of the match, coming from 100 balls and including eight boundaries at Trent Bridge.

Essex have been well on top since tea and Notts finally decide it's time for a change of tack, bringing on Samit Patel for some spin.

The defending champions need another 176 for victory so the hosts could do with a couple wickets at least before close at Trent Bridge.

All over in Leeds. We will see a day four, although probably not very much of it.

Chasing 230 to win, Ben Coad has ripped the heart out of the Red Rose middle order with a four-wicket burst.

After battling back earlier in the day, to keep their run chase down to what looked like an acceptable level, Lancashire looked quite well set on 66-2, still needing 164 for victory.

But a poor shot by Steven Croft allowed Jack Brooks to make the key breakthrough - the first of five wickets in the space of eight overs, three of them for Coad, two of them clean bowled and one LBW.

Josh Bohannn and Keshav Maharaj managed to see out the day, to leave Lancashire needing 221 to win. But a second Roses match defeat of the season looms large and, with it, likely relegation back to Division Two.

Notts bring debutant Lyndon James into their attack as they look to end this Essex partnership of Murali Vijay and Tom Westley.

James took 3-54 in the first innings, dismissing both batsmen currently at the crease.
