  1. Signing offpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

The penultimate day of the county season was principally about goodbyes.

Jonathan Trott ended his Warwickshire career with a win over Kent that secured the Division Two title.

But for Trott's former England team-mate Paul Collingwood, there was disappointment as Durham came up short against Middlesex in his last game after being set a target of only 167.

There were also victories for Somerset, Lancashire Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and Glamorgan, so just one match remains for the final day of the season - as new champions Surrey try to preserve their unbeaten record against last season's title-holders Essex.

We'll be here again from about 10:15 BST to describe the denouement at The Oval.

    Breaking

    Glamorgan 359 & 175 v Leicestershire 132 & 270

    What a shame.

Just six runs short of a century, Leicestershire number 10 Dieter Klein is lbw to Timm van der Gugten and Glamorgan end their season with a second victory.

Klein hit a six and 15 fours and added 96 with Gavin Griffiths, who ends 36 not out, a new 10th-wicket record for Leicestershire against the Welsh county.

Glamorgan take 23 points and Leicestershire 3.

  5. MIDDLESEX BEAT DURHAM BY 57 RUNSpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 26 September 2018
    Breaking

    Durham 310 & 109 v Middx 121 & 355

    It's all over!

Chris Rushworth tries to drive James Fuller down the ground and gets a thick edge over cover.

Taken in the deep by Nick Gubbins!

Middlesex pick up their seventh win of the season and will surely be a tough nut for any side to crack in the second division next year. They finish fourth in the table.

Durham finish 8th in the table and they have huge boots to fill with the retirement of their leading run-scorer in Paul Collingwood.

  6. wicket

WICKET Poynter b Murtagh 23published at 17:51 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Durham 310 & 105-9 v Middx 121 & 355

Tim Murtagh bowls a short one and Poynter works the ball away to backward square leg for two.

Bowled him! Stuart Poynter is crouched in defense but can't keep the ball out.

Barry McCarthy looks in considerable pain as he slowly walks down the steps to join Rushworth in the middle.

James Fuller is coming back on.

  7. Postpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

It looks like Durham aren't going to give Paul Collingwood a winning send-off as he heads into retirement.

He was bowled by an unplayable ball that kept low in his final innings and had a rueful expression on his face as he took the long walk back to the dressing room for the last time.

Durham and England legend - and top bloke too!

  8. Klein shines for Leicestershirepublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Glamorgan 359 & 175 v Leicestershire 132 & 257-9

Can Dieter Klein make a century for Leicestershire? He's certainly giving it his best shot with a six and a four in Timm van der Gugten's last over to take him to 84 not out.

In theory there are only six overs left in the day - but presumably Glamorgan will ask for an extra half hour?

  9. Durham eight downpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Durham 310 & 103-8 Middx 121 & 355 (Target 167)

Stuart Poynter isn't quite finished yet as he crashes Ethan Bamber to the fence for his third four to move to 20.

A single off the fifth and Rushworth sees out the over.

  10. wicket

WICKET Salisbury c Rayner b Murtagh 0published at 17:41 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Durham 310 & 98-8 v Middx 121 & 355

Big appeal first ball against Matt Salisbury - and the batsman has walked.

Nasty bouncer from Tim Murtagh which the batsman couldn't quite evade.

Another catch for Rayner at second slip.

With question marks over the fitness of Barry McCarthy, who may have an ankle injury, Chris Rushworth may very well be the last man for the hosts.

  11. Surrey boosted by fightbackpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Surrey 67 & 477-5 v Essex 477-8 dec

Very much Surrey's day at The Oval as Jason Roy and Ollie Pope hit centuries to revive their hopes of finishing the season unbeaten.

Roy made 128 and Pope 114, but Mark Stoneman missed out on a hundred when he fell to spinner Stuart Harmer for 86.

Will Jacks was 52 not out at the close after an unbroken partnership of 59 with Ryan Patel, but their lead is only 67 and the job isn't done yet.

  12. wicket

WICKET Wood c Rayner b Bamber 0published at 17:35 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Durham 310 & 97-7 v Middx 121 & 355 (Target 167)

Middlesex are on the verge of a seventh Championship win this season, which oddly enough is one more than they managed when they won the title in 2016.

Mark Wood is at the crease with Stuart Poynter.

Not any more! Mark Wood tries to drive Ethan Bamber through mid off and edges to Ollie Rayner at slip.

  13. 50 runs

for Will Jackspublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Surrey 67 & 475-5 v Essex 477-8 dec

A big moment for Will Jacks as he reaches his maiden Championship fifty with a single off Matt Coles. It's taken him 79 balls and included two sixes and five fours, but there hasn't been much aggression of late as Essex continue to keep things tight. Surrey lead by 66.

  14. Wait goes on for Glamorganpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Glamorgan 359-175 v Leicestershire 132 & 231-9

Having been 102-8, Leicestershire have more than doubled their score since then and Dieter Klein and Gavin Griffiths have now added 58 for the last wicket. Klein has a career-best 69 and Griffiths 25 after both found the boundary in Timm van der Gugten's latest over.

  15. wicket

WICKET Steel c Rayner b Bamber 23published at 17:26 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Durham 310 & 97-6 v Middx 121 & 355 (Target 167)

Cameron Steel slaps his bat in disgust as he's too late to move his bat inside the line and he edges a low catch off Ethan Bamber to Ollie Rayner.

The Durham tail has been exposed and this will be a mighty task for the hosts from here.

  16. YORKSHIRE BEAT WORCESTERSHIRE BY 7 WICKETSpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 26 September 2018
    Breaking

    Worcs 340 & 221 v Yorks 428 & 137-3

Tom Kohler-Cadmore plays a flashing drive off Twohig and the ball flies over the slips for four.

Scores level. One more run needed - but Yorkshire won't get it in this over.

Ed Barnard to bowl... Whipped away by Jack Leaning and that's victory for Yorkshire!

After being relegation candidates as recently as last week the White Rose finish fourth in the table.

  17. wicket

WICKET Ballance c Pennington b Twohig 60published at 17:18 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Worcs 340 & 221 v Yorks 428 & 124-3 (Target 134)

Gary Ballance tries to end the game in style with a slog-sweep off Ben Twohig.

It doesn't come off and he's caught at long on by Dillon Pennington.

But the damage is done with only 10 needed from here.

50 for Gary Ballancepublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Worcs 340 & 221 v Yorks 428 & 118-2 (Target 134)

12 runs come off Ben Twohig's fifth over as Ballance drives the bowler down the ground for the first of two fours to reach 50 off 55 balls.

A couple more from the second ball and four more come from the third.

Two more from the fifth and the Pears have given up the ghost here.

  19. Essex build pressurepublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Surrey 67 & 464-5 v Essex 477-8 dec

Essex are doing their level best to strangle the scoring at The Oval.

Ryan Patel's four off Matt Quinn briefly breaks the shackles, but Will Jacks has become becalmed in the 40s, with a maiden Championship half-century on the horizon. Surrey's lead is 54.

  20. wicket

WICKET Davies run out 4published at 17:10 British Summer Time 26 September 2018

    Durham 310 & 79-5 v Middx 121 & 355 (Target 167)

Cameron Steel drives Andersson between mid-off and cover and that's another three runs off the target.

It's a small target but the pitch has played a few tricks and this game is wide open.

Steel nudges Bamber to mid wicket.

He stays put but Ryan Davies is a third of the way down the pitch. He's out!

Brilliant pick up and throw from James Fuller!

The game is there for the taking for Middlesex.
