There are some 'bangin tunes' belting out from somewhere near to the ground that don't seem to be stopping during an over. It's like this match is being played at a nightclub.

Oh now the music does stop, cue a loud cheer from the crowd. It seems the spectators weren't impressed with the DJ's choice.

This is the key partnership for Sri Lanka, don't give them the chance to get in. There are singles everywhere for them with this field.

  3. SL 46-4published at 21 overs

    Trail by 296

It's spin from both ends for England. Moeen Ali is continuing. Moeen has a strange number of fielders on the boundary considering the score but he does at least have both a slip and a short leg.

One of those boundary fielders is Adil Rashid at long on and the Sri Lankans twice knock the ball to him and jog for a single. Chandimal didn't seem to have too much difficultly running there.

There is an enormous number of England fans here. When Jack Leach was out, Foakes was on 95 and everyone was willing him on.

England's score of 342, in terms of the pitch I think that's below par but Sri Lanka have been utterly woeful in their top order.

England are in a great position. But as a lover of Test cricket, someone who wants to see the battle, wants to see the game last five days, I'm not happy.

Test cricket won't last long if batsmen play like this.

  5. SL 43-4published at 20 overs

    Mathews 4, Chandimal 1

More tidy bowling from Jack Leach. It's not spinning huge but enough and Leach has been very accurate.

This is a big partnership for Sri Lanka.

It features Angelo Mathews, their best batsman, and Dinesh Chandimal, their captain. Chandimal struggled yesterday with a groin injury, mind.

Michael Vaughan makes a very good point. It was a fine shot from Foakes to reach his century.

Can you think of any better?

I seem to remember Gary Ballance hitting a six to bring up his first Test century.

Maybe you've hit a fine shot to reach three figures yourself? This is your chance to share your story.

Is this England's game now? You'd hope so, they haven't won away for so long that you can't say it's done yet.

Brilliant from Ben Foakes, the on-drive off the back foot to bring up a miaden Test century is up there with the best shots ever! It's so hard to play.

Just waking up? Prepare yourself. I'm about to say something unusual...

England have had a very good morning away from home.

Ben Foakes didn't take long to reach his Test century on debut. In the end he was out for 107 with England adding 21 runs to their overnight total. They were all out for 342.

But early on with the ball England have put themselves in a strong position at lunch.

Jimmy Anderson, Sam Curran, Jack Leach and Moeen Ali have all taken a wicket each.

Sri Lanka are four wickets down with only 42 runs on the board. It's currently lunch but play will resume in a couple of minutes.

    Radio 5 live in Galle

Chatting to some England fans at lunch, I’m not sure many can believe what they are seeing.

They expected to be watching the rain fall in Galle, instead it’s been Sri Lanka wickets.

The Sri Lankan supporters are massively outnumbered here at the ground with an invasion of England fans making the most of a Test at this iconic ground.

The golden lion flags are still being waved and the drums are still being played, but there are some glum faces among the home supporters.

This is a difficult period for Sri Lanka cricket and they hoped a Test here at a ground where they have such a good record would raise morale.

But they’ll need a better performance this afternoon or Rangana Herath’s farewell Test may be an anti-climax.

With the ball in this morning session England have really taken control of this match.

Jimmy Anderson took a wicket with the second ball of the innings (never retire, Jimmy). It gave wicketkeeper Foakes a catch with just his second ball in Tests.

There was just a little bit of swing for Anderson and Sam Curran early on. Curran got in on the wicket-taking act soon after by dismissing Kaushal Silva lbw.

Pretty much everything has worked for England captain Joe Root.

His first bowling change was to introduce spinner Jack Leach early. He started very well and soon also got himself a wicket and then just before lunch Root brought Moeen Ali into the attack and he took a wicket in his first over.

Sri Lanka are four wickets down still 300 runs behind.

The morning started with Ben Foakes getting the 13 runs he needed to reach his Test century on debut.

He hit the first ball of the morning for four to move into the nineties.

Things then got a little nervy when Jack Leach was out meaning last man Jimmy Anderson walked out with Foakes on 95.

But Anderson survived and got off strike and then Foakes hit two lovely boundaries to move to three figures.

He was eventually out for 107, trying to clear the infield and press on.

    Jonathan Agnew

Really poor stuff from the home side, Sri Lanka are batting as badly as England did at the start yesterday.

For both sides it has been a case of technical deficiencies and lack of application. If Geoff Boycott was here he’d be combusting.

It’s good news for Jack Leach who needed that early wicket and he got it, but the top order batting in this match has been woeful.

You want to see a higher standard than what we are watching here.
