  1. Last away win?published at 06:36 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2018

England haven't won on the road for 13 long games, since a 22-run victory on the final morning of an intriguing first Test in Chittagong in 2016.

Ben Duckett and Gareth Batty were in the side...

Gary Holmes: The sheer volume of ODI and T20 cricket has affected the top orders in many of the test playing nations. Must be difficult to move from different formats. Elvis “Caught in a trap” springs to mind.

Arjun Singh: Another totally brainless shot - the mirror image of Ben Stokes’ from yesterday. Suicidal cricket from Dananjaya there.

  4. SL 42-4published at 19 overs

An uneventful over, in the nicest possible way. And that's lunch!

What a couple of hours for England. Their debutant keeper has a hundred and a catch, all four bowlers have taken a wicket, even Jimmy Anderson is smiling as they come off. Well, almost.

Sri Lanka trail by 300 runs (THREE HUNDRED).

  5. SL 42-4published at 18 overs

As frugal as your own mother, Jack Leach is giving Sri Lanka nothing. Although as soon as I type that he drops a touch short and the injured captain Dinesh Chandimal is able to pick up a single and get off the mark.

Last over before lunch? Coming up.

It's all fun and games out there at the moment. England don't win away very often and we're a long way away from that but..

Come on! You have to dream.

Four bowlers used, one wicket apiece. It's been about as good a session as England could have hoped for.

Jack Tanner: Are you England in disguise?

Dukkhaboy: Little known cricket fact: Sri Lanka’s Dhananjaya is a second cousin of England's Ben Stokes and they went to the same batting classes for one term when the subject was ‘sweeping straight deliveries and looking stupid’

Sometimes you just have to wonder what goes through the mind of an elite sportsman/woman. Dhananjaya de Silva obviously fancied targeting Moeen Ali from the minute he was introduced into the attack, but Sri Lanka were 10 minutes away from lunch and three wickets down.

He falls to a stinker of a shot, going for another pre-meditated scooped sweep and he just misses the ball and is bowled, middle stump.

A shocker. And it brings in the injured Sri Lanka captain.

  10. SL 40-3published at 16.2 overs

Fruity from Dhananjaya de Silva to Moeen's first ball, a pre-meditated sort of scooped sweep for two. Sri Lanka need to score some runs eventually, though lunch is only 10 minutes away.

    Keep it tight? Ah...

Double spin alert! Moeen Ali is coming on.

Jack Leach may well hold up one end for a long spell here, he's looking a threat with pretty much every ball and has gone for five runs from his five overs. Sri Lanka are scoring a touch over two an over.

  13. SL 37-3published at 15 overs

Angelo Mathews has 29 Test 50s to his name and his side could do with one now. At the very least. Who saw this turnaround at lunch yesterday?

  15. What you've missedpublished at 06:13 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2018

    Ben FoakesImage source, Getty Images

Good morning! Just waking up? Well you've missed Ben Foakes reach a Test century on debut.

He started the day on 87 and got the 13 runs he needed to reach three figures quickly before being last man out soon after.

There were nervous moments when Jack Leach was out with Foakes on 95, bringing last man Jimmy Anderson to the crease, but Foakes brought up his hundred with a lovely drive through mid on.

He was eventually out on 107. England added 21 runs to their overnight total and were bowled out for 342.

England have since made an impressive start with the ball. They have taken three early wickets. Jimmy Anderson, Sam Curran and Jack Leach have one each.

  16. SL 37-3published at 14 overs

Angelo Mathews is the new batsman, this Sri Lankan batting order is pretty ad hoc. Remember that skipper Dinesh Chandimal is not fit and wasn't expected to bat before six. Joe Root comes in to second slip, fully on his knees! Lovely.

Mathews is off the mark and on strike.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 13.2 overs

    Mendis c Stokes b Leach 19 (Eng 34-3)

Got him! Jack Leach's very tidy start indeed is rewarded as he induces an edge from Kusal Mendis. Very sharp catch too from Ben Stokes. A turf-skimmer.

  18. SL 34-2published at 13.1 overs

The umpires are keeping an eye on Sam Curran for treading on the wicket. A quiet word, rather than an all-out warning. Footmarks on this pitch in the third and fourth innings? Could be carnage.

Jack Leach to continue, nice line again...

  19. SL 34-2published at 13 overs

    De Silva 10, Mendis 19

Sam Curran skims the edge of Kusal Mendis' bat, a real effort ball. Nice shape to that one. The runs have really dried up. Eighteen dot balls out of the last 21...

  20. SL 33-2published at 12 overs

Kusal Mendis is not for moving. These two Sri Lankans looking to build a foundation. They see out another Jack Leach maiden.
