Huge ovation around the stadium in Galle as Ben Foakes punches a shot straight for four. He is the second wicketkeeper to score a hundred on his England debut and the 22nd England player to score 100 v Sri Lanka altogether.

He's also the 167th England player to score 100 full stop in an England shirt. The most recent new member of the club was Jos Buttler who hit a ton v India at Trent Bridge this summer.

I'm awake because Harry, my five year old refuses to sleep (on a regular basis). Might as well see if Foakes can get his century.

Get ready to run a quick single Jimmy...

    Foakes 99

Ben Foakes strides across to off, flicks it away and turns down a single. I do not blame him for a minute. They could have run five there, the gap was that big.

He then pulls one away, it's in the gap, FOUR!

    99.

A six will do it for Ben Foakes. I'm not sure he's got that in his locker but I wouldn't be hanging around too long with Anderson at the other end...

That's a five-for for Dilruwan Perera by the way. Credit where it's due.

Sri Lanka pile men around the bat of Jimmy Anderson, and the first ball wraps him on the pads! Down the leg side though.

He is then squared up by an off spinner but squirts it safe. Sri Lanka move another fielder in under his helmet.

Anderson almost nicks that one to a slip but it falls short! Ben Foakes looks on, doing his best to look confident. OVER!

The Burnley Lara strides out, focused. Eyes like saucers.

    Don't get out!

    Don't leave Ben Foakes stranded!

Jack Leach is a goner, nicking a ball from a good length straight to first slip. It was met with near universal silence.

Hang on, they are looking at this for a no-ball...

"Fair delivery, fair delivery", is the shout from the umpires. Send for Jimmy Anderson!

Jack Leach happy to take the strike, flicking a single to leg. Somebody fires up some Ed Sheeran for some reason inside the stadium. Needless.

Shot, Ben Foakes nudging Suranga Lakmal into the offside for two, warm applause as he moves a step closer to the record books.

And again, nurdled for one. He looks remarkably calm.

Right then, Ben Foakes. Two hits and it's 100 time...

  16. Eng 326-8published at 94 overs

Jack Leach is not going to be too progressive against the spin of Dilruwan Perera you wouldn't think. He does get a good stride in to one outside his off stump and almost chips it into the covers. Steady on!

He'll be watching this pitch looking for signs of life. He could be opening the bowling soon enough. Maiden.

  17. Eng 326-8published at 93 overs

    Foakes 92, Leach 14

Another lbw appeal, against Ben Foakes this time, but that's very high and nobody is too interested in that one.

Apart from keeper Niroshan Dickwella, obviously. England get through the over.

  18. Eng 326-8published at 92.2 overs

Replays suggest that lbw review was sliding down the leg side.

A bit of swing from the other end first up as Suranga Lakmal gets the ball in hand. Ben Foakes is watchful to him off the back foot.

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal, who injured his groin yesterday, is not out there by the way.

  19. Eng 326-8published at 92 overs

Ben Foakes into the 90s then. Nervous?

Jerusalem getting an airing from the England fans in Galle as Jack Leach takes guard. He was breezy for his 14 last night. Not afraid to dash through the slip cordon.

Forwards nicely to defend outside off stump. Just hang in there JL...big lbw appeal! No.

Sri Lanka burned both of their reviews inside 12 overs yesterday. They may have used one there!

  20. Eng 325-8published at 91.1 overs

    Foakes 91, Leach 14

    Ready? Let's play!

Dilruwan Perera to open the bowling for the hosts, Ben Foakes to face the first ball.

Thirteen needed Ben. No pressure. Doubt you've given it any thought overnight...

    Four first ball!
