This England side is a bit cabinet of all the talents isn't it? Seamer, left-arm swing, left-arm spin, off-spin, leg-spinner.

Adil Rashid showed enough in that session to suggest that he has the talent to be a gamechanger with the ball. Some beautiful deliveries, albeit wrapped up with some bad balls too.

He has only gone at three an over though.

... as Meatloaf didn't quite sing.

This is quite the stat - Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club have tweeted to say that two of the five wicketkeepers to score a century on Test debut have both played for them - in the same season.

Ben Foakes and New Zealand's Tom Blundell both turned out for them in the 2012 season...

A bit harsh on Jonny Bairstow!? But England look fat on options in the lower and middle order, very thin in the top three.

Bairstow can't get back in. Simply he isn't batting well enough. He needs to go back to his county and learn to bat properly again. He isn't a No. 3 or an opener. At best he's a 7. If he bats seven he has to keep wicket. However he's injured and doesn't deserve to be dropped. Leave him out!!!

Part of me says 'why have you got so many people on the boundary?' But you get a wicket and you see that Sri Lanka have gone nowhere.

If you stop the boundaries a killer delivery may only be around the corner. England will love Jack Leach as a character, he's not the obvious modern cricketer.

He will be an important part of this tour and further down the line too.

Tom Rostance is back from his breakfast to take you through the final session.

Rory Burns is now walking unassisted from the field. It looks like he'll be alright.

We had 30.2 overs in that session and Sri Lanka scored 94 runs.

Adil Rashid has taken the one wicket.

Sri Lanka have fought back a little but England are still well in control.

It happens. There is so much protective equipment available to fielders but when you are that close in it's always a danger.

Burns is getting to his feet now.

It was a funny old session. Treat this pitch with respect and there is very little wrong with it.

Burns is sat up now which is good to see. England's physio and doctor are thoroughly examining the opener's neck.

The players are now making their way off the field.

    That is tea.

Burns is still down. The medical team continue to give him treatment. This may well result in tea being taken a few minutes early.

On comes the England physio. Burns is talking to him but is laid flat on his back by the side of the pitch.

    Oh dear.

Rory Burns has taken a nasty blow at short leg as Niroshan Dickwella sweeps. This does not look nice.

Burns has ducked as fielders often do at short leg when they sense a big shot is coming and the ball has hit him hard in the back of the neck.

"Everywhere we gooooooooo," the England fans belt out now. They're starting to really enjoy themselves in the Galle sun.

Angelo Mathews is having a good day too. There are cries of catch but a nice drive safely goes for another boundary off Stokes.

That takes him to a very well-played half century.

  16. SL 131-5published at 48.3 overs

Stokes' start isn't the best. His first delivery is down the leg-side and then he gets leg-side again with a shorter ball.

Mathews helps himself to four around the corner to fine leg. Mathews is closing on his half century. He moves to 48.

Ben Stokes is indeed coming on for the first time today.

I must say his ginger beard is looking beautifully shaped.

Ben Stokes is bouncing up and down on the spot at slip to Moeen. Could we see him come on and bowl for the first time? There's just a little more bounce and turn for Moeen now. Is the heat having an effect on the pitch? A Mo maiden.

10 minutes to go until tea.

The pitch is increasingly spinning and the dismissal of Chandimal was beautiful, all round. England needed that wicket.

It's been a very similar day to yesterday. England sat back, defensive fields, Jimmy Anderson is plugging away but getting nothing from the ball.

England would love to get Angelo Mathews before tea.

  20. SL 126-5published at 47 overs

    Mathews 44, Dickwella 9

We have seen this plan so often from Anderson in Asia. He has fielders waiting for a mistimed drive on the offside and keeps mixing up his pace.

Mathews looks comfortable for now though. He keeps on finding the middle of the bat.

Anderson might not have many overs left in his spell in this heat.
