    Porterfield c Foakes b Plunkett 17 (Ire 60-2)

Eagle-eyed Ian Bell is right! That was glove and off William Porterfield goes.

The Ireland captain, who's been on a rotten run, never looked overly comfortable and falls to a strangle down the leg side.

He knew and was off the pitch before the third umpire's decision came back.

Far from Liam Plunkett's best ball but another vital strike for the visitors.

If there is a noise there it has to be glove, because the ball is miles away from the thigh pad. In fact, William Porterfield is walking off.

  4. England reviewpublished at 12.5 overs

Well now. Liam Plunkett strays down leg and William Porterfield chases it.

There's a noise and the ball flies through to Ben Foakes behind the stumps.

    Bat, gloves or thigh pad?

Eoin Morgan is hoping it's not the last one as he sends it upstairs...

That's exactly what you don't want as a batsman from your first ball - through the gate and just missing the off stump.

  6. Ire 55-1published at 11.5 overs

Oofft. Tom Curran greets new man Andrew Balbirnie with a serious in-ducker that gets between bat and pad and only just past the stumps. Peach.

England have held mid-on and mid-off up, trying to get the batsman to hit them over the top. Jofra is a good athlete.

    WICKETpublished at 11.4 overs

    Stirling c Archer b Curran 33 (Ire 55-1)

Yep, that's a fine catch by Jofra Archer in the end. He looked to have been slightly deceived by the flight off the bat as Paul Stirling miscued the shot looking to go big down the ground.

But Archer used all his height to reach forward in time and safely snaffle it above the ground.

Tom Curran gets England's first wicket and stops Stirling's superb start.

The Ireland opener had been pinned down by Curran and was looking to hit over the top, but picked out Archer at mid-on instead.

    That's a catch.

  10. Third umpirepublished at 11.4 overs

    Do England have their breakthrough?

Jofra Archer has dived forward to snaffle Paul Stirling.

Stirling isn't sure about the catch though and the umpires send it upstairs.

    Soft signal is out.

It's damp, cold and England could easily slip up if they don't have the right mindset, so it's good to see Eoin Morgan setting by example and diving around in the infield.

  12. Ire 55-0published at 11 overs

    Stirling 33, Porterfield 16

Stirling works it to third man for two more before Plunkett strays onto the pads and the Ireland opener flicks it fine for a single.

Plunkett goes round the wicket to Porterfield, who misses with the pull shot but the ball deflects away off his midriff for a leg bye.

Stirling digs one out to pick up a single off the last - seven from the over.

  13. Ire 50-0published at 10.1 overs

    Run rate 4.92

Liam Plunkett is into the attack and Paul Stirling greets him by clipping a cut up and over the infield for a quick two.

That's the 50 up for the hosts.

This pair have been opening for Ireland for a decade, a decade and a half. They'll be looking at their team with two on debut and think we've got to deliver.

  15. Ire 48-0published at 10 overs

    Stirling 27, Porterfield 15

Niiiice. Tom Curran zips one past Paul Stirling's twirling drive.

Stirling connects with the fifth ball but Eoin Morgan makes a fine diving stop in the covers.

A thick outside edge off the last sees Stirling pick up a single. Just two from the over.

Very good start from Ireland. Both these openers are experienced one-day players and they're positive with how they run between the wickets. After losing the toss, which we thought was a good one to win, this is a very good start.

  17. Ire 46-0published at 9 overs

Willey finishes with two dot balls.

Bowling change for England - Tom Curran is coming on to replace Jofra Archer.

So Archer's first spell in international cricket ends on 4-0-21-0. A mixed bag - some loose deliveries but challenging pace and bounce elsewhere.

Stirling was never the trimmest, but he's looking trimmer - he's had a haircut and he's taken that beard off.

  19. Ire 46-0published at 8.4 overs

David Willey over-pitches after two good balls and Paul Stirling biffs it away through the covers for four. Shot!
