  1. Eng 106-2published at 12 overs

England's captain Eoin Morgan is out at number four and punches gloves with Joe Root on his arrival at the crease. That wicket will probably but slow things down a little for England.

    Just two from the over.

    Bairstow c Shaheen b Imad 32 (Eng 105-2)

Jonny Bairstow's face is the same colour as his hair. He's livid that he's not going to have chance to continue this madness.

The England opener tries to thwack another big hit but picks out the lanky Shaheen Afridi at long-on.

  4. Eng 104-1published at 11 overs

    Bairstow 32, Root 32

Root overtook Bairstow with that last boundary. It's a race between the two Yorkshireman at their home ground right now. It must be so much fun. Four to Jonny B again.

    Daft.

Stunning from young Joseph Edward Root. This one whistles between the non-striker and the umpire and straight down to the boundary. Dickie Bird watches on. He'd have loved that one.

    England's hundred is up.

That boundary from Joe Root was the 17th four of innings. That ties for the most boundaries hit by England in the first 10 overs of a one-day innings since at least 2001 when these records have been kept.

Imad Wasim can't believe it. He's bowled a good one - and that's gone for four as well.

  9. Eng 95-1published at 10 overs

    Bairstow 28, Root 25

Oooof! A good delivery from Imad Wasim. It finds Joe Root's edge but with slip fielder now protecting the boundary there's no hope of a catch. It goes for four again.

Ninety five runs come from the first 10 overs.

  10. Eng 90-1published at 9.3 overs

Lovely from Joe Root. This is absolute carnage. Root plays the reverse lap and it runs away for yet another boundary. It's just silly stuff from England.

Is there a new revolutionary bowling plan I've missed? 'Pakistan's leg-stump freebie' ploy is not working.

    Four more to Bairstow!

I had a DVD box-set of the Harry Potter films. The third one, Prisoner of Azkaban, was one of my favourite books, but the DVD always kept getting stuck. No matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to run past a particular scene of Severus Snape, where the picture always froze. A great story cut short. It's what I feel like when watching a James Vince innings.

In James Vince's last five innings in this format he has made 32, 27, 18, 43 and 33 today. In terms of balls faced, you see his struggles to go on - he's faced 37 balls, then 27, 27, 39 and today 32.

Mohammad Hasnain is bowling himself out of Pakistan's World Cup squad. He can blame the fielders for the first boundary but the next two are of his own doing.

The third in the over is another freebie on the hip.

12 from the over. 34 from Hasnain's first three. Ouch.

  15. Eng 73-1published at 8.1 overs

One step forward, two steps back.

Awful, awful stuff from Pakistan. Hassan Ali waddles like someone just out of surgery as Joe Root drives and the ball beats the fielder before reaching the rope.

James Vince has scored some very big scores for Hampshire, so he's capable, but it's understanding at the higher level when you need to take on shots and when you don't. Until then he'd played some glorious shots. That one got steep on him but I reckon in the England camp they'd say look, in that example, it was the right shot to go for, it just wasn't executed in the right manner.

Good fielding from Pakistan. We've not said that too often. Jonny Bairstow climbs into the free hit but Imad Wasim dives full-length to stop the ball in at mid-off.

But now Yorkshire's finest are out in the middle at Headingley now as Joe Root joins Jonny Bairstow. Root top edges his first delivery but, unike with Vince, it falls safely.

Shaheen Afridi has got good pace - that was a hostile bouncer, quick, dug in, and it's beaten Vince for pace. It's carried a long way to square leg as well. There's palpable disappointment with Jame Vince not converting what was a promising start.
