That's the frustration with Vince, really. He was playing splendidly. He swipes at the air as he walked off.

But it's 30 and out yet again for James Vince! So, so frustrating. He goes again but slices a pull shot high into the leg-side and Fakhar Zaman takes an easy catch.

There'll be no hundred today for Vince. Will he ever get there?

With players who make it look easy like James Vince, it's always a surprise when they get out. He has nicked off in that corridor of uncertainty a couple of times but you've got to get out some way - I remember David Gower saying it was a relief when he was bowled, because he wasn't getting caught at slip. But I think there is an intelligence in finding a way through.

More rubbish from Pakistan. First a wide from Shaheen which is spilled by the keeper and then a leg stump half volley. Vince doesn't miss out.

On the subject of Bairstow breaking bats, he revealed after the game in Bristol that he's been sending them back to the dressing room to get them fixed as quickly as possible, like a tennis player getting new strings. He said his current batch served him well at the IPL and he wants them to last for the World Cup.

There's already chat of 450 here in the office. The start has been that good from England.

James Vince still hasn't scored a hundred for England. His best ODI score is 51. He's made a very good start as he looks to change that. His best chance to reach three figures?

This is England's fourth consecutive opening stand of 50 or more - their opening stands in this series are 115, 159, 94 and 55.

And now Bairstow cuts for four! England are certainly not taking any sympathy on the young fast bowler. It's entertaining stuff, if a little cruel.

It's another punishing start from England's top order.

Ouch. Young Mohammad Hasnain will be wishing he stayed in bed. Now he chucks one down the leg-side and Sarfaraz can't prevent four wides. The wicketkeeper should have done better.

The fifty partnership is up after just six overs.

Jonny Bairstow's changing his bat. He did it quite a bit in Bristol. He's got some bats that he really likes and he's trying to preserve them for the World Cup and the Ashes.

  12. Eng 45-0published at 6 overs

    Vince 27, Bairstow 17

Better, in fairness, from Shaheen. Firstly he troubles Bairstow with a quick bouncer that is skewed off the top-edge but lands safely. He follows that with a rapid yorker that Vince can't lay bat on.

    More of that please, Pakistan.

Shaheen Afridi berates himself and quite right too. Yet another freebie is flicked down to the fine-leg boundary by Bairstow.

Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed's mood is darkening by the ball.

It's a tough start for Pakistan. It's a really good batting wicket and there's no movement whatsoever, either from overhead conditions or the pitch. The batsmen are really laying in and it's a young bowling attack - some of these are only 19 years old.

You can see Hasnain is struggling with his run-up a little bit.

Sorry John but I've got to disagree here. Adil Rashid would be one of the first names on my teamsheet. Rashid has taken 42 more wickets than any England bowler since the last World Cup.

This has been a shocking start from Pakistan. Mohammad Hasnain is spraying it left and right. Another leg side delivery ends the over and Vince clips it for his sixth boundary in five overs.

John Wells: Would you not leave Rashid out the squad? You’ve got Moeen, and Denly & Root who can bowl part-time spin if needed. I don’t think England can afford to leave Archer, Wood, Willey & Plunkett out of the squad of 15.

And Mohammad Hasnain is hit to the boundary early.

Not the best start from the youngster.

Lots of players can play an extra cover drive but few can make the crowd coo in doing so, like James Vince can.

The crowd are oooooohing and woahhing as the ball crunches off James Vince's bat. This one slaps into the hands of extra cover on the bounce meaning a stinging palm is the only damage to Pakistan.

England chiefs Ashley Giles and Ed Smith are two members of today's crowds. They're both in sunglasses to add an extra layer of mystery to England's selection decisions.
