Some more from Jack Leach on his glasses: "I know I look stupid out there but we got the job done. I'd take back that 92 (against Ireland) for 1 not out here."

On Ben Stokes not being able to watch him facing strike: "It put me off a little bit! He said he couldn't watch one ball and then when another was coming in I could see he couldn't watch again. I was like 'have a bit of faith!'

"It's a big boost, it's 1-1 now with all to play for. We were desperate to win the game and somehow we pulled it off so it was very special."

Headingley is all but empty now. Just a handful of bewildered fans still lingering at the back of the stands.

A glorious four days of action.

Australia can win the Ashes from here. But they missed a massive opportunity in this game. A more ruthless side would have batted England out of the game, they didn't bat well in the second innings.

England know their bowlers can make indentations in the Australia batting line-up.

Jack Leach on Sky Sports: "It was a very special feeling. Stokesy was unbelievable. It was like nothing I've ever seen before. And the crowd was insane."

On what Ben Stokes was saying to him: "He didn't really say a lot. When I first went in it was about him having most of the strike and being ready to run two. Then when I had to face a ball I had to break it down and get through one ball at a time."

England will not gloss over their batting problems this time.

They had a perfect opportunity to level the series and if they hadn't have taken it, it would have been a long way back.

You have to use this but there still will be some conversations, hopefully led by Joe Root, about the batting in general.

You have to earn the right to wear the bowlers down. Australia didn't bowl as well today but it was because England ground them down yesterday - 25 overs is a lot of overs to bowl for a fast bowler in a three-man attack.

  8. 'The best kiss I've ever had!'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 25 August 2019

More from Ben Stokes: "At the start of the day, time wasn't an issue. If it would take till tomorrow to get the runs we needed then we were prepared to do that.

"Jack Leach came in and there were some crucial balls he faced so credit to him to do that in such a pressure situation."

On being kissed by Jack Leach after clinching victory: "It was the best kiss I've ever had!"

  9. 'So many missed opportunities'published at 16:56 British Summer Time 25 August 2019

Australia missed so many opportunities. But I've never seen an innings like that to win a Test match. And I saw Brian Lara leading West Indies to a one-wicket win over Australia at Bridgetown.

This was more astonishing. The calculated way Ben Stokes took on the bowling and hit the most audacious shots when the game was lost.

The good thing for Australia is they've got some days to recover and that tour match in between. They may call up Mitchell Starc to give some oomph to the bowling, not that that the bowling was that poor in this Test.

I hope everyone who was listening, whichever side they are on, knows this is the greatest game.

Ben Stokes trains like no other. He is getting the rewards for being the hardest working cricketer.

He tied Australia down with the ball, just to make England hold on when Jofra Archer went off.

  12. 'The adrenaline keeps you going'published at 16:53 British Summer Time 25 August 2019

Ben Stokes on his ovation: "It probably matches the World Cup, to be honest."

On suffering from cramp: "It wasn't cramp, I twanged my glute. I was heavy-legged but when you're out there in the middle and you know what's on the line, the adrenaline keeps you going.

"There's nothing like being out there in the end and getting your team over the line. I didn't get nervous till we needed single figures, I didn't know what to do then!"

  17. 'Better than scoring 92'published at 16:51 British Summer Time 25 August 2019

More from Jack Leach: "Ben Stokes said I'd only face one or two balls an over and told me to back up to run two. Then every ball I faced I just really focused on seeing it off. I felt really switched on, it was amazing.

"He put me off a little bit because he wasn't watching me bat! Fair enough, it worked.

"That's the best one not out I'll ever get. I'd take back that 92 to keep that one."

For England to be a consistent Test match team they can't keep getting bowled out cheaply when the ball does a bit.

But they showed they know the way to bat in Test match cricket.

Can they do it again at Old Trafford and The Oval? If they can, they have a great chance to win the Ashes again.

They can't rely on an innings like that again.
