  1. 'It hasn't sunk in'published at 16:38 British Summer Time 25 August 2019

England hero Ben Stokes on TMS: "I don't know [what I've done]! It hasn't quite sunk in, I know we've won the game but I'm pretty tired. A great day.

"We came in to the day with a chance but it's never over until it's over. At nine down with 70 left it was obvious what was to be done. I only got nervous when we were down below 10 needed but I had my pitching wedge at a perfect length.

"I couldn't look when Jack Leach was batting. I was just waiting for the reaction of the crowd! It's amazing.

"The pressure Jack was under, he faced a crucial 15-odd balls. Leachy had to stay in there - he's got some serious balls..."

England captain Joe Root, speaking to TMS: "Ben Stokes is a freak, he's incredible. The message at the start was to just keep believing. If we had two people out there still breathing then we have a chance.

"After Stokes got to 60-70 he looked like he wasn't going to get out. To win a game on your own from there is just amazing. He does have recent experience of doing it. Just incredible to watch unfold.

"We had a little routine going, as soon as anyone left the room they had to get back quickly to their spot. That will not sink in for a while. A great advert for Test cricket."

I don't think Ben Stokes fully realises what he's just done.

That shouldn't happen. You shouldn't be able to do that.

  9. 'It happens mate'published at 16:32 British Summer Time 25 August 2019

Australia skipper Tim Paine: "Ah look, it happens mate. Ben Stokes has played one of the great innings. It's got to sting but we have to trust our process, we were very close. We are on the right track and we have two more chances to win the Ashes.

"I've seen Stokesy do it too many times, he played out of his skin and he had a bit of luck. The lbw shout is irrelevant, we can't control it, it was given not out.

"The whole series has been pretty good to watch. We could have batted them right out of the game and we left the door open for them."

Australia should get Steve Smith back, but what effect will that have on them?

When Ian Botham and Bob Willis pulled off the 1981 miracle here it changed the entire series and England won the next two Tests.
