Australia have had a really good last hour. It's been a tremendous day for Test match cricket, very hard fought. The Root and Burns partnership was tremendous. They played with an awareness and nullified risk. We need to give Burns a huge amount of credit. He has been found out against the short ball a little bit but he came here with a different technique. He's improving.

We're asking Ben Stokes to dip into his well again.

    That's officially stumps.

England end day three 297 runs behind Australia. They still need 98 to avoid the follow-on and only have five wickets left.

Can we rewind to the afternoon when Joe Root and Rory Burns were ticking along and our biggest problem was thinking of a good inflatables pun?

Those three wickets have put Australia right in command.

Here are the first two - the two set batsmen.

England would take a draw from this position. I don't think the tailenders will last long against this attack. It's down to Stokes, Bairstow and Buttler to bat out the morning session.

Roy is currently sat in the dressing room looking utterly miserable. He has his face in his palm.

I do feel for Roy. He's not a Test player, no shame in that, and the selectors have led him like a lamb to the slaughter.

We have to be playing again by 19:00 BST or that will be it for the day. 14 overs will be lost and England will have avoided having to bat for another tricky 40 minutes.

This highlights how bad a shot Jason Roy's was. If you're going to be a Test match cricketer you've got to have an awareness of the game and what's happening above you.

  11. Bad light stops playpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 6 September 2019

After taking the light reading the umpires must have decided it's too dark.

Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow are straight off. The Aussies are lingering around in the middle.

There are four shadows around each player being cast by the floodlights. I'm not even sure it's good enough for the spinners.

There's a huge bank of cloud away to our left. It's getting really dark. We might almost be at the point where Labuschagne has to bowl.
