  1. 78-2published at 15 overs

    Pooran 31 Hope 15

Pooran has a rather wild swing at Coulter-Nile and makes no contact. The young left-hander takes off his helmet and goes for a wander to calm down. Gayle looks on from the balcony and mimes a defensive stroke - not that he played many of those himself today. The Windies can consolidate over a soothing beverage.

With all of the technology in the game now, there is really no excuse for missing no balls. Can the TV umpires not have a ball-by-ball screen in front of them that solely focuses on the front foot?

  3. WI 75-2published at 14 overs

    Pooran 30, Hope 13

Hope is far more comfortable against the spin of Maxwell and he rotates the strike with a single off the final ball of the over, taking the run-rate to 5.35, only fractionally below the requirement.

Shai Hope is being troubled by the short ball every time.

  5. WI 72-2published at 13 overs

    Pooran 29, Hope 11

Hope is fairly short in stature, and Coulter-Nile peppers him with some short ones. The diminutive wicketkeeper takes them on but although not convincing, he survives.

I've seen a ball hit the stumps but not knock off the bails was when I was umpiring in the famous Pork Scratchings Cup here in Nottingham. The team's captain fined his bowler a pint for not bowling quickly enough to knock a bail off. Can't imagine Finch fining Starc for the same reason...

    Target 289

The first spin of the innings and it's Glenn Maxwell, who scored a two-ball duck with the bat. He drops short and Pooran cuts stylishly away to the boundary, before driving three more through the covers. The 23-year-old is playing only his third ODI, having made a duck on debut against England and 34 not out in the opening match here against Pakistan.

The ball before Gayle's dismissal should have been given as a front foot no-ball, therefore the one that got him should have been a free hit. If a batsman reviews a decision should the previous ball therefore also be reviewed to check it was a legitimate delivery?

Chris Gayle was only around for 17 balls but, as so often happens, there was a lot of drama and entertainment in his innings.

  10. WI 58-2published at 11 overs

    Target 289

Yes indeed, Hope made successive centuries in Dublin last month, with 170 against Ireland 109 against Bangladesh, adding another hundred in a warm-up match against New Zealand. Cummins gets the radar wrong and sends down three wides - there have been 10 already in the innings - but the last one is brutal and catches Hope on the glove.

When you're in the form Shai Hope is in, you don't get worried if you're 5 off 23.

  12. WI 54-2published at 10 overs

    Target 289

An edge from Hope at the powerfully-built Coulter-Nile but there is no third slip and it flies away safely for a single. The end of the powerplay and although they have not raced away with it, the Windies are more favourably placed than the Aussies were at the same stage, they were 48-4.

A maiden over but Hope has done well to still be out there after that full-blooded drive came off the inside edge and caught him in the unmentionables.

The groan from the crowd tells you exactly where this inside edge from Hope has hit him. There is no spray for the pain in that area I can tell you.

Third time lucky for Australia against Gayle. It was close, but it was close enough for the umpires.

  17. WI 50-2published at 8 overs

    Pooran 18, Hope 3

Now it's Coulter-Nile with the ball, having propelled his team to 288 with his innings of 92. He replaces Cummins, who bowled three overs, taking 1-15 - and two of those overs cost nothing. He's up at 85mph but Pooran takes up the challenge with consecutive pulls to the boundary as the fifty comes up. Terrific stuff.

  19. WI 41-2published at 7 overs

    Pooran 10, Hope 2

As a Trinidadian left-hander I think we can see who Pooran's hero is, and there are definite hints of Lara with some flourishing wristy flicks through mid-wicket from the 23-year-old, despite inswinging deliveries around 90mph from Starc, as 10 come from three balls.

  20. How's stat?!published at 15:21 British Summer Time 6 June 2019

Chris Gayle has now faced Starc four times before in ODI cricket - being dismissed by him twice, scoring just 10 in response.
