    A really soft dismissal.

  2. wicket

    Stoinis c Pooran b Holder 19 (Aus 79-5)

I was just going to show you two exemplary drives from Stoinis but he will not want to see this shot again, completely mis-timing it and easily taken at short mid-wicket.

A very, very good shot by Steve Smith. He is the key player here, Windies need to get him out before it's too late.

  4. Aus 79-4published at 16 overs

Smith would not make the aesthetic XI but there is a lovely flow to his bat and he strokes Brathwaite for his third four.

A crucial period for the Aussies now - the wicket of Smith holds the key. Get him, and you might just find me dancing in the streets this afternoon! Come on the Windies!

    Nick from Didcot

I have so much faith in this Windies side after their first showings, I've gone right ahead and placed a substantial bet on them winning the whole thing! Here we go...

It seems there's no facility for buying tickets on the day of the matches. This seems crazy as not all the games are sold out. Not everyone can make arrangements for time off in advance.

Now, I'm aware that the following may soon make me look silly, but here goes. The Windies have been very successful with the bumpers, but it seems unlikely that plan will rattle Steve Smith. In the myriad of ways England tried to remove him during the 2017-18 Ashes, short stuff was one of the ploys. It didn't work.

  9. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 14 overs

    Aus 72-4 (Smith 16, Stoinis 18)

Some great support for the West Indies in today, all manner of colourful outfits and flags. Smith shuffling across his crease again as is his wont and Brathwaite is penalised for the 13th wide of the innings. It's a sunny day at Trent Bridge and time for the first drinks break.

I'm frustrated - that is poor bowling by Jason Holder. He is releasing the pressure created by his other bowlers.

  11. Aus 68-4published at 13 overs

    Run-rate 5.23

The tall figure of captain Jason Holder enters the attack but Stoinis looking extremely measured, with a beautifully straight bat to dispatch two full deliveries down the ground to the boundary

That is a glorious shot from Steve Smith, he arched his back and carved it away. That's a high degree of difficulty.

  13. Aus 60-4published at 12 overs

Brathwaite the slowest of the quartet at around 80mph and Smith seizes on to loose one wide of off stump and punching it off the back foot for his second boundary, a prolific stroke for him during his career.

Could the Windies calm things down? I've got a full day in the office to get through. If it carries on like this it'll be over by lunch and I'll have to do some work this afternoon.

  18. Aus 48-4published at 10 overs

Carlos Brathwaite, best known for those four successive sixes off Ben Stokes at the 2016 Wolrd T20 final, replaces Cottrell but Stoinis dispatches a full toss and then hooks another boundary to provide some temporary respite for the Australians.

Rob Meech: The Aussies are getting pummelled. This is glorious viewing!

Jack Robin: Are we seeing the potential winners here? Are the Windies going to blow the competition away?

Mark Mod Lang: Aussies on the rack. Beautiful.

  20. Aus 40-4published at 9 overs

Russell firing them in at 89mph and Smith moving across his stumps. Just the two wides from the over, given for short-pitched deliveries, Russell literally bowling himself off his feet with effort.
