After a quiet start that over has changed the complexion. Virat Kohli has woken everyone up in the stands and there's a real party atmosphere. It's such a joy to see him bat.

    Ominous.

Aftab Alam corrects his line and bowls a perfectly delivery but driven through the covers with disdain by Kohli.

    Textbook.

  3. Ind 27-1published at 7.4 overs

Cheers, Virat. The India skipper proves my point by clipping a leg-side delivery to the fine leg boundary.

  4. Ind 23-1published at 7.3 overs

As ever Virat Kohli looks comfortable. He just seems to always find the middle of the bat.

Brilliant start by Afghanistan, I have been really impressed by them and especially Mujeeb.

  6. Ind 20-1published at 7 overs

    Mujeeb 4-0-8-1

The fan with the drum has arrived. He beats away as Kohli jogs a single.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman is bowling really well. Kl Rahul does not look confident facing the spinner and can't get the ball away.

    Just two from the over.

  8. Ind 18-1published at 6 overs

    Rahul 16, Kohli 1

Afghanistan were unlucky there. They could easily have two early wickets.

I also might have been a little harsh on Aftab Alam. I called him military medium but he has got his pace up to 84mph. That's quicker than Jimmy Anderson!

  9. Ind 17-1published at 5.5 overs

    Edged! In the gap!

India get away with one as KL Rahul glances the ball between the wicketkeeper and the sole slip fielder, who is standing where a regulation second slip would be.

The ball goes for four and Alam bends over double in the middle of the pitch.

But there is the first boundary of the day! It's too wide from Aftab Alam, his first poor delivery, and KL Rahul punches off the back foot through the covers.

Unsurprisingly the noise levels lift as the ball reaches the rope.

  13. Ind 9-1published at 5 overs

    Rahul 7, Kohli 1

It was Mujeeb's delivery that goes the other way, flicked out of the front of the hand, that bowled Rohit. It was a real beauty. Who would have thought India wouldn't hit a boundary in the first five overs?

Kohli is just an unbelievable batsman. I would not pay for too many tickets to see cricket, but I would pay to see Virat Kohli.

He's a superstar anyway, but as a batsman, I have not seen many better.

But here comes the main man.

A huge roar erupts as Virat Kohli walks out to the middle.

That is outstanding bowling, we were saying the Indian openers were not picking the variety and that's a perfect example.

    Bowled him!

Well, well. Rohit Sharma is bowled by a beauty by spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman with the delivery flicking the top of off stump.

I don't think Rohit picked it. He was tentative and has walk off after scoring just one run from 10 balls.

  19. Ind 7-0published at 4 overs

It's hard to argue with that. It would be one of the biggest shocks in all of sport, I reckon.

What would be bigger? Leicester winning the Premier League? That probably just shades it.

Afghanistan are doing well. It's a maiden from Alam. No runs have come from the last 11 balls.
