It's been a pretty hectic day of County Championship action.

We've had great batting by James Hildreth, Will Fraine, Sean Dickson, Billy Godleman and Marnus Labuschagne, who all made centuries - and notable 'five-for' bowling performances by Kyle Abbott, Jordan Clark and Ollie Robinson, as well as the first day of first-class cricket at the beautiful Sedbergh School ground.

But perhaps our player of the day is Derbyshire's Fynn Hudson-Prentice, who was dismissed for 99 in his very first Championship innings.

Maybe Middlesex wouldn't have begrudged him the extra run - or maybe they're a bunch of hard-nosed pros...

Hampshire avoid further damage after the early loss of Oliver Soames, having fought back well in the field in the final session of play.

Century stands between James Hildreth (106) and Tom Abell (82), and Tom Banton (79) and George Bartlett (68) led the Division One leaders to 353-3, but their last seven wickets went down for 55 as Hampshire paceman Kyle Abbott claimed 6-84.

Joe Weatherley and Ajinkya Rahane are the not out Hampshire batsmen.

Captain Billy Godleman's 102 off 118 balls spearheaded a very good opening day for Derbyshire, but spare a thought for Luis Reece and especially Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

Reece put on 167 for the first wicket with Godleman before falling to George Scott for 96, and Hudson-Prentice got to within one run of a Championship debut century, but was then caught off Tom Helm.

Middlesex paceman Helm also had Alex Hughes caught behind for a duck in the same over, but Leus du Plooy remains on 50 not out with the home side on top.

South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj's first two overs for Yorkshire are both maidens, but it's job done by Surrey openers Mark Stoneman and Dean Elgar who are still together at the close.

Yorkshire were in a strong position at 187-1 earlier in the day, but the loss of four wickets for 18 runs - including that of Will Fraine for 106, his maiden Championship century - fatally undermined their hopes of a maximum haul of first-innings batting points.

Adam Lyth made 55 in an opening stand of 116 and Steven Patterson's 46 saw them past 300, but Jordan Clark claimed 5-77 as the 2018 champions fought back strongly.

Stoneman will start day two 28 not out, with Elgar, who edged the final ball of the day for four off Patterson, on 14.

An even contest for the first-ever day of first-class cricket at Sedbergh School.

After being put in by Durham, Lancashire will be happy at having only lost five wickets.

But their scoring rate was kept down all day by the Durham bowlers.

The hosts will return tomorrow looking for a third, possibly even a fourth batting point, with Dane Vilas on 67 and Steven Croft on 29.

Final update from Bristol where Australia A beat Gloucestershire by five wickets in a 50-over game. Chasing a target of 249, the tourists got home with almost eight overs to spare as Will PUcovski, Peter Handscomb and Mitchell Marsh made half-centuries.

Advantage Essex on day one at Trent Bridge against bottom club Nottinghamshire.

At 126-2 just after lunch, inspired by the switch of skipper Steve Mullaney to open the innings, Notts looked on course for one of their better days.

But they collapsed to 213 all out - and it was only a 43-run ninth-wicket stand between Samit Patel and Stuart Broad that earned them even one batting bonus point.

Broad then struck another blow by removing former England captain Sir Alastair Cook for just 2, caught behind. But Nick Browne (39) and Tom Westley (25) then bedded in to reach the close on 72-1, having so far put on 62 for the second wicket.

Another good day for Division Two leaders Glamorgan, marred only slightly by the loss of four wickets - all taken by Brett D'Oliveira - in the final session of play.

Marnus Labuschagne hit his fourth Championship hundred of the season before giveing a return catch to D'Oliveira on 106 - and David Lloyd was last to go to the same bowler for 97.

They shared a 138-run partnership to help their side earn four batting points, with enough overs to add the fifth on the second morning.

Nick Selman made 67 earlier in the day, while D'Oliveira's figures are 4-63.

With the wickets tumbling in Division One, we missed the duismissal of Derbshire debutant Fynn Hudson-Prentice for 99 against Middlesex.

He tried to pull a short ball from Tom Helm, but skied a catch to Steven Finn. No wonder he spent several seconds with his hands on his knees, staring at the ground before making his way off after a consolatory pat on the back from his partner.

Still, it was a fine effort, and included a six and 13 fours.

Four overs left up in the Cumbrian fells - and Lancashire now have a second batting bonus point.

Durham need one more wicket this evening for a second bowling point.

Nicely poised this game.

Dane Vilas (65) and Steven Croft (27) now both surely looking to dig in for tomorrow.

Mark Stoneman is still dominating the Surrey scoring at Scarborough, with an on-drive off Ben Coad bringing him his fifth boundary so far. He is 27 not out and Dean Elgar has six. There are half a dozen overs to go before the close.

With the close approaching (just five overs to go), things have settled here after a lively start to the Essex reply.

Stuart Broad won the initial private contest with his mate Sir Alastair Cook, dismissing the former England captain, caught behind by Tom Moores.

Now it's debutant Ravi Ashwin, veteran of 111 ODIs for India, to whom Nottinghamshire have turned in the hope of a second wicket.

It took 12 balls before Ashwin conceded his first run as a Notts player, but there are no great signs that either Nick Browne or Tom Westley won't be coming back to resume tomorrow.

Northamptonshire hit back in the final seven overs of play at Hove by removing openers Phil Salt and Varun Chopra, with a wicket each for Brett Hutton and Ben Sanderson.

The double-breakthrough will make them feel a whole lot better about an opening day in which their own hopes of a big first-innings total were undermined by paceman Ollie Robinson, who took 6-63.

Nine Northants batsmen reached double figures, but Saif Zaib was the only one to post a half-century, making 54 off 109 balls.

Sussex have three points so far, and the visitors two.

A long, long day for Warwickshire's depleted bowling attack.

Just two wickets in the day for the injury-hit Bears - both in the afternoon session.

Even Jeetan Patel, who started this game as the country's joint top wicket taker in 2019, could not find a way through. He finished with 0-76 from his 28 overs.

But it was Kent's day - and Sean Dickson's in particular - as they took advantage of the Bears' injury crisis.

Dickson finished on 146, having shared century stands for the first wicket with Zak Crawley (72) and a so far unbroken 152 for the third wicket with Daniel Bell-Drummond (68).

After dominating most of the opening day's play, Somerset lose two wickets in the 86th over as Kyle Abbott leaves himself on a hat-trick.

Successful lbw appeals against Jamie Overton and Tim Groenewald give the South African figures of 5-80 so far.

Although Somerset have passed 400, the visitors may feel this total could have been a whole lot worse from their point of view.

Mark Stoneman is again looking fluent at the start of his innings, but that has been the case several times this season and he has still to register a Championship century.

The left-hander flicks Ben Coad away off his hip for four, before driving through the covers for another to move into double figures.

Dean Elgar is his opening partner in Scarborough, with skipper Rory Burns forced out of the game by illness.
