  1. Back under way at Sedberghpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Lancashire 17-0 v Durham

Play has resumed at Sedbergh School after what proved to be only a 10-minute rain break in the Cumbrian fells.

Keaton Jennings and Alex Davies bed back in again in the first over after the resumption. Both have now hit two boundaries each.

  2. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Leaders Glamorgan are 22-0 after seven overs against Worcestershire in Cardiff. Owen Morgan is opening with Nick Selman as Charlie Hemphrey is not in the side today.

Sussex are looking for a second breakthrough at Hove, where Northants are 16-1 in the eight over following the early dismissal of Ricardo Vasconcelos by Ollie Robinson.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice is making a his first-class debut for Derbyshire against Middlesex after Wayne Madsen was ruled out with a sprained ankle, but he is still waiting for his first chance to bat with the home side 27-0 in the eighth over.

  3. Azhar hopes for form returnpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Somerset 18-0 v Hampshire

It's hard to believe that Azhar Ali has only managed a single half-century for Somerset so far this season.

They could certainly do with a big innings from him today and after a couple of fours in the same Kyle Abbott over at Taunton, he leg-glances for another in the latest, bowled by Keith Barker.

It moves him into double figures and skipper Tom Abell is five not out at the other end.

  4. Kent off to flier at Canterburypublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Kent 32-0 v Warwickshire

Kent are off to a predictably decent start against injury-ravaged Warwickshire at Canterbury.

Four boundaries off the first six overs, three of them off the second of Warwickshire's numberless loan signings Ben Mike.

  5. wicket

WICKET Duckett c Cook b Porter 8published at 11:19 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Notts 13-1 v Essex

Ben Duckett is the first to go, to the fifth ball of Jamie Porter's fifth over.

Two exquisite cover drives are followed by a nick to Alastair Cook at slip.

Ben Slater is the new man in.

  6. Lancs bat first at Sedberghpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Lancashire 13-0 v Durham

Appropriately enough, it was a former Durham man, Keaton Jennings, who took first guard on the day when Lancashire have added picturesque Sedbergh School to English county cricket's first-class circuit.

The South African-born England opener has so far hit two boundaries.

He is facing another native South African Brydon Carse, who is back in action after being taken out of the attack for running on the wicket in Durham's last game.

But they have already come off, after just four overs, following a sudden shower. That's the Cumbrian weather for you. But, don't forget, it does rain in Manchester too!

  7. Fraine finds the boundarypublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Yorkshire 6-0 v Surrey

Yorkshire opener Will Fraine dabs a ball from Sam Curran down to third man for four.

Partner Adam Lyth is being tested out by Morne Morkel at the other end, with the big South African sending down 12 dot deliveries so far, plus a no-ball.

  8. Abell gets Somerset under waypublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Somerset 4-0 v Hampshire

Tidy start by Hampshire at Taunton, with Keith Barker and Kyle Abbott both starting off with maiden overs.

The first runs come in Barker's second over, though, as Tom Abell edges between second slip and gully for a less than convincing four.

Interestingly, Somerset have gone into this game with two spinners in their XI as Dom Bess, back from a recent loan spell with Yorkshire, joins Jack Leach in the side.

  9. Sound start for Nottspublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Notts 12-0 v Essex

Two overs gone at Trent Bridge. And 12 on the board already for the bottom club Nottinghamshire!

Home skipper Steven Mullaney has been thrust up the order to open. He has started tidily and Ben Duckett has already clubbed two boundaries.

  10. wicket

WICKET Vasconcelos lbw Robinson 2published at 11:06 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

    Sussex 2-1 v Northamptonshire

The first wicket of the day falls at Hove and it's no surprise that it's Ollie Robinson who claims it, sending Ricardo Vasconcelos on his way with his sixth delivery.

Incidentally, Sussex are without Chris Jordan, who has tonsilitis, and Stiaan van Zyl, but have Phil Salt back from injury and give a debut to loan signing Varun Chopra.

Right then, ladies and gentlemen, we have eight prompt starts. Where will the first wicket fall?

It is sometimes said that responding positively to a setback is a sign of a successful team - and we're saying it again now.

Was last week's loss at Chelmsford just a hiccup in Somerset's progress towards a first Championship title, or did it reveal a vulnerability in the Division One leaders?

Captain Tom Abell afterwards insisted it was "not the end of the world" and added: "There have been times when we haven't been at our best this season when we've shown that fight and character to wrestle back the momentum."

They may need all their wrestling ability this week against a Hampshire side smarting from an even heavier defeat by Essex in their last match almost a fortnight ago.

Somerset: Abell (c), Azhar, Hildreth, Banton, Bartlett, Davies, Greagory, Bess, J Overton, Groenewald, Leach.

Hampshire: Weatherley, Soames, Rahane, Northeast (c), Rossouw, Alsop, Fuller, Barker, Abbott, Edwards, Crane.

  14. Threadbare Bears at Canterburypublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Kent v Warwickshire (play starts 11:00) - Kent to bat

Warwickshire have had their problems on the pace bowling front this season, having had a string of injuries.

But that injury woe has reached crisis level at Canterbury today, where the names of Oliver Hannon-Dalby - the most prolific member of the Bears' pace attack this season - and Craig Miles have been added to the casualty list.

    Image caption,

Oliver Hannon-Dalby has taken 26 Championship wickets for Warwickshire this season

They began this season without England duo Chris Woakes and Olly Stone, who is still recovering from a back injury sustained on England's winter tour.

Liam Norwell, who arrived with Miles from Gloucestershire over the winter, and Australian Ryan Sidebottom are out for the season. And Henry Brookes is still out after missing last week's defeat by Surrey at The Oval.

Having signed Lancashire's Toby Lester on loan last week, they have also now brought in another loan man, Leicestershire's Ben Mike, James Wainman from Yorkshire on a short-term contract and Warwickshire-born Australian Bailey Wightman.

The very-new-look Bears pace attack of Lester and debutants Mike and Wainman will be in action immediately too. Kent have won the toss and will bat. Good job the Bears also have skipper Jeetan Patel (44 wickets so far this season) in reserve.

Kent: Kuhn (capt), Dickson, Crawley, Denly, Bell-Drummond, Robinson (wk), Stewart, Stevens, Rayner, Podmore, Milnes.

Warwickshire: Patel (capt), Rhodes, Sibley, Yates, Hain, Hose, Lamb, Ambrose (wk), Mike, Wainman, Lester.

  16. Burns absent as Surrey seek Scarborough winpublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Yorkshire v Surrey (match starts 11:00) - Yorkshire to bat

Gareth Batty and Sam CurranImage source, Rex Features

Is it too late for champions Surrey to force themselves into the title picture this season?

They trail leaders Somerset by 45 points at the half-way point of the campaign, but last week's win over Warwickshire has put renewed vigour in Rory Burns' team.

Burns himself will be absent because of illness as they now face a Yorkshire side, whose own title aspirations have taken a hit after failing to win any of their last four games.

The White Rose county give South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj his debut, and compatriot Duanne Olivier has recovered from a hip injury, while Surrey will be skippered by England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes.

Yorkshire: Lyth, Fraine, Ballance, Kohler-Cadmore, Leaning, Tattersall, Willey, Maharaj, Patterson (c), Coad, Olivier.

Surrey: Stoneman, Elgar, Borthwick, Patel, Foakes (c), S Curran, Smith, Clarke, Clark, Morkel, Batty.

  17. Notts hope for Ashwin liftpublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Nottinghamshire v Essex (match starts 11:00) - Notts to bat

When you're at rock bottom, it's not great timing to come up against a team that he just produced its two best performances of the season so far.

But that is the situation winless Nottinghamshire find themselves in as they take on an Essex side now up to second in Division One after wins over Hampshire and leaders Somerset.

Skipper Steve Mullaney was scathing in his assessment of his side after they lost by 285 runs to Kent in their last game, telling BBC Radio Nottingham: "We’re at the bottom and 100 per cent we deserve to be. We’ve been the worst team by a long stretch."

Maybe the arrival of India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the "something" Notts need? If not, they can expect no mercy from Essex.

At least Notts have won the toss and will bat.

Notts: Mullaney (capt), Slater, Duckett, Nash, Clarke, Patel, Moores (wk), Ashwin, Fletcher, Broad, Ball.

Essex: Ten Doeschate (capt), Browne, Cook, Westley, Lawrence, Bopara, Wheater (wk), Harmer, Siddle, Beard, Porter.

  18. Sedbergh School opens for Lancashirepublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Lancashire v Durham (play starts 11:00)

Lancashire have hosted County Championship fixtures at 12 different home venues down the years.

Today, at Sedbergh School, just across the border in Cumbria, and in what once used to be part of Yorkshire's West Riding, they add a 13th to that list when they host Durham - and it is unquestionably the prettiest.

“Sedbergh is situated in the middle of the Howgill Fells," said director of cricket Martin Speight, who had a long county career with Sussex and Durham from 1986 to 2001. “It very much rivals Arundel Castle and Worcester in my view.

“We’re delighted to have the fixture. It’s nice that your school, ground and facilities are deemed good enough. We have very close links with Lancashire, Durham and Yorkshire. We’re sort of stuck in the middle of all three”

    Sedbergh CCImage source, Lancashire CCC

The boarding school - which counts former England rugby captain Will Carling as perhaps its most celebrated former pupil - has previously hosted Cumberland Minor Counties games and Lancashire matches at junior level.

But, with temporary stands built to accommodate an expected daily crowd of between a possible three to four thousand people, this is its biggest test - and let's hope the occasion will have the weather to match the spectacular surroundings.

Lancashire: Vilas (capt/wk), Jennings, Davies, Hameed, Jones, Livingstone, Croft, Bohannon, Mahmood, Onions, Anderson.

Durham: Bancroft (capt), Lees, Clark, Harte, Burnham, Eckersley (wk), Raine, Carse, Rimmington, Trevaskis, Rushworth.

  20. Labuschagne gives Glammy a liftpublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 30 June 2019

Glamorgan v Worcestershire (match starts 11:00)

    Marnus LabuschagneImage source, Rex Features

Glamorgan have not played top-flight Championship cricket since 2005, but there is a growing belief in Cardiff that next summer they could do so again.

Last week's win over Gloucestershire took them to the top of the Division Two table, and they have yet to lose a game as they look to seal one of the three promotion spots available.

One reason for that is the form of Australian Marnus Labuschagne, who has scored 851 runs in eight matches - but he is currently due to leave the club next month.

Coach Matthew Maynard is keen to tie him down to a future deal and said: "He's proved to be a great signing all round, not just for the runs but his manner in the field, the energy that he gives the team, he's terrific."
