Plaudits today for Dom Sibley and Marnus Labuschagne, who both passed the 1,000-run landmark - the Warwickshire opener in first-class cricket and Glamorgan's Australian import in Championship games only.

There was also good pre-Ashes news for England with centuries by Dawid Malan and Mark Stoneman, while Sibley's partner Will Rhodes, Essex's Ravi Bopara and Brett D'Oliveira of Worcestershire also reached three figures.

There were two '10-fers' at Hove for Ben Sanderson and Ollie Robinson, but it was the Northamptonshire seamer who was smiling at the end as his side beat Susses by 393 runs to achieve their first win of the season.

Well, even in the short history of first-class cricket at Sedbergh School, that was a pretty dramatic day.

A calf injury to Jimmy Anderson that took him out of the attack.

Then a Durham collapse as their last five wickets went down for just 18 runs in 10 overs, followed by an extraordinary start to the Lancashire innings as they were reduced to 10-2 inside the first four balls of Chris Rushworth's first over.

At 59-5, fuelled by a daft run-out, Lancs led by only 115. But, by the end of the day, Lancs skipper Dane Vilas had made 74 to steer his side into a 260-run lead.

That ought to be a matchwinning lead already. But, don't forget, Lancashire will not have use of Anderson tomorrow. He will be having treatment on his calf strain as he begins his battle to be fit to face the Aussies at Edgbaston on 1 August.

The pitch still appears a good one but Nottinghamshire have lost too many wickets, it would seem, to have any chance of saving this game.

The nature of the dismissals this time round will disappoint the home side maybe more than in the first innings.

Steven Mullaney shouldered arms to Jamie Porter, before Chris Nash's LBW was followed by an all mighty mix-up to allow Aaron Beard to run out Ben Slater.

Joe Clarke, the other batsman involved in that dismissal, was then caught in a leg side trap off Beard before Samit Patel was out caught at slip by Alastair Cook off Simon Harmer in the manner of a team heading to defeat.

Essex, 206 runs ahead, need five more wickets to win and heap pressure on Somerset at the top of the County Championship.

Nightwatchman Kyle Abbott survives a maiden from Jamie Overton to end an enthralling third day at Taunton after Hampshire lost Oliver Soames at the start of their four-over mini-session before stumps.

Good batting by Azhar Ali (79), Tom Banton (70) and Tom Abell (58) enabled Somerset to set a target of 418 as they look for a sixth win to boost their chances of a first Championship title.

It was good to see leg-spinner Mason Crane bounce back with three wickets, but the focus is now on Hampshire's batsmen as they try to play out the final day.

Marnus Labuschagne finishes just 10 runs short of yet another century for Glamorgan after passing 1,000 Championship runs earlier in his innings.

He has hit 14 fours and the Division Two leaders are 216 ahead, but barring a collapse by one side or the other, a draw looks the favourite here.

Earlier, Brett D'Oliveira followed his 7-92 in Glamorgan's first innings with a superb 103, batting at number nine, while Michael Hogan claimed 5-62 for the home side.

A magnificent unbroken partnership of 186 between Dawid Malan and John Simpson sets a new Middlesex record for the seventh wicket against Derbyshire.

And with a draw now seemingly inevitable, they will both have notable landmarks to aim for on the final morning.

Malan is 177 not out and will look to convert that into a double century to further his chances of an England recall for the Test series against Australia.

Simpson is unbeaten on 91 and they trail by 121 with the prospect of following on safely averted.

End of the third day's play in Nottingham. And the hosts are on the brink of defeat.

With just five wickets remaining, Nottinghamshire still trail Essex by 206 runs and are in danger of a fifth County Championship defeat this season.

Ben Duckett remains on 32, but Essex are into the Notts tail, now that Luke Fletcher has come in early as nightwatchman. And there are only Tom Moores, Ravi Ashwin, Stuart Broad and Jake Ball to come for Division One's bottom club.

Sam Curran to Ben Coad for the final over at Scarborough and the Yorkshire tailender helps himself to two boundaries, the second superbly lofted straight back over the bowler's head.

He moves to 16 not out and Yorkshire's lead at the end of day three is 268.

Surrey fought back well after an opening stand of 94 between Adam Lyth (68) and Will Fraine (43), with Curran claiming 3-75, and barring an unexpected last-wicket partnership, they will fancy their chances of going home with a victory.

Another bowler unfriendly day at Canterbury.

Only 10 wickets in three days. But four centurions in the match so far.

And Dom Sibley's 207 not out shades those of Kent pair Daniel Bell-Drummond (166) and Sean Dickson (161) and his own Bears opening partner Will Rhodes' 109 earlier in the day.

How many more will he go on to get tomorrow? His own career-best score of 242, set in only his third first-class match six years ago, would seem the obvious first target.

Tim Groenewald is not renowned for his batting ability but he clears his feet out of the way superbly to give himself room to hoist Fidel Edwards high over the square leg boundary for a maximum.

It carries the Somerset total past 350 and they lead by 417 - that's enough for skipper Tom Abell, who makes the declaration.

Groenewald makes 10 not out and Steven Davies is unbeaten on 36.

Warwickshire's Dom Sibley becomes the first batsman in the country to make a double century this season.

It's the second of his career, since making 242 in only his third first-class match against Yorkshire for Surrey in 2013.

Sibley had a chance to do it with mathematical preciseness by getting to his 200 off 400 balls, but turned down the single. That came in the same Joe Denly over when he reverse swept to move to 195, followed by another boundary two balls later.

But, instead, it was six more balls and another 10 minutes later - following the break for treatment to Zak Crawley - before he achieved the feat, with a clip for four to fine leg, his 30th boundary.

A marvellous effort from Sibley on the day he became the first to 1,000 first-class runs this season, just edging out Glamorgan's Australian all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne.
