  1. Night allpublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

That's it for all of our eight matches. The tumbling wickets of yesterday made us think we'd have a result or two for you this afternoon, but alas.

We're back tomorrow from 10:45 BST for some more live text fun when maybe we will finish a few of those matches.

I promise it'll happen in at least one. It's the final day of Hampshire v Warwickshire.

    Thanks for reading our drivel.

    Night.

  2. All done at The Ovalpublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Kent 285-4 v Surrey 271

And that is that at The Oval. Kent's day for sure as 50s from Zak Crawley, Joe Denly, Daniel Bell-Drummond and Heino Kuhn have already taken them beyond Surrey's first innings total.

Denly was out just 12 runs shy of his ton, while captain Kuhn is still at the crease on 50.

He'll be keen to push Kent into a winning position on day three and stretch that 14-run lead towards something decisive.

  3. Openers lay down a markerpublished at 18:58 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Australia A 203-0 v Sussex 263

It's stumps at Arundel in the tour match and Australia A's openers, who are potentially embroiled in a shootout for one place in the Ashes squad, are both making a statement.

Marcus Harris is 100 not out but Joe Burns is still there on 88 and will hope to follow him to three figures tomorrow.

    It's hard work for Sussex.

  4. Bad light stops play at The Ovalpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Kent 285-4 v Surrey 271

Kent skipper Heino Kuhn reaches 50 and then bad light forces the players off at The Oval. There are still 13.2 overs scheduled to be bowled, but that seems highly unlikely.

Kent are 14 runs ahead of Surrey now and in a strong position. Both sides probably want to get off the pitch.

  5. Nash replaced by Patelpublished at 18:43 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Somerset 326 & 7-1 v Notts 241

A bit of news for tomorrow...

Chris Nash will take no further part in the match at Taunton with Notts being permitted to replace him with Samit Patel as a concussion substitute.

All the best to Chris Nash, hopefully this is more precaution than anything else. He took a nasty blow on the helmet from a short-pitched Jamie Overton delivery when he was 50.

  6. Stumps at Southamptonpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 31-3 v Hampshire - target 404

Warwickshire have a mountain to climb on the final day at the Ageas Bowl and it got a whole lot steeper when the lost three wickets to Kyle Abbott late on day three.

There was a brief burst of inspired bowling by Bears seamer Oliver Hannon-Dalby shortly before tea, but otherwise it was completely Hampshire's day with a steady stream of wickets this morning followed by explosive batting in the afternoon and evening and the removal of both Bears openers before the close.

They are reaping rewards for their big first-innings total and will fancy their chances of wrapping up a win tomorrow.

  7. Stumps at Leicesterpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Durham 117 & 191-1 v Leicestershire 202

Durham have really dragged themselves back into this one and are now firmly on top at Grace Road. After polishing off the Leicestershire tail courtesy of a Chris Rushworth 5-for, Cameron Bancroft's so far unbeaten ton has led them to 191-1 and a lead of 96 runs.

  8. Ton for Lace & stumps at Kiddypublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Derbyshire 108 & 272-6 v Worcestershire 113

Tom Lace reaches his ton in the final over of the day and will resume on 101 in the morning as Derbyshire look to push on from 272-6, a lead of 267 runs.

Worcestershire have let this slip having bowled them out for just 108 first up. They're now behind the eight ball.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Denly c Elgar b Morkel 88published at 18:35 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Kent 282-4 v Surrey 271

A soft end to a very handy innings for Joe Denly as he carves Morne Morkel straight to point, where Dean Elgar takes the catch.

Denly's frustration is clear but he has played a vital hand and steered his side into the lead. They have six wickets remaining to press home their advantage.

  10. Stumps at Merchant Taylors'published at 18:33 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Middlesex 172 & 96-3 v Gloucestershire 201

    As we thought, that's that.

Middlesex lead by 67 runs overnight.

  11. wicket

WICKET: Stone b Abbott 0published at 18:25 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 21-3 v Hampshire - target 404

Another one gone as nightwatchman Olly Stone plays forward in defence to his first delivery from Kyle Abbott but is beaten on the outside edge and loses his off stump.

Abbott has two wickets in two balls but his hat-trick delivery is hit for four by Sam Hain.

  12. wicket

WICKET: Rhodes c Rahane b Abbott 10published at 18:23 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 21-2 v Hampshire - target 404

Both openers are gone as Kyle Abbott squares up Will Rhodes and finds the outside edge.

Ajinkya Rahane takes the catch at second slip.

  13. Close at Northamptonpublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Lancashire 211-4 v Northants 442

Alex Davies reaches stumps on 124 for Lancashire. They've rebuilt superbly having been reduced to 2-2 at the beginning of their reply to Northants' 442.

They looked almost dead buried then, but fair play.

  14. Off at Merchant Taylors'published at 18:17 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Middlesex 172 & 96-3 v Gloucestershire 201

Bad light interrupts things between Middlesex and Gloucestershire at Merchant Taylors' School, with the former 67 runs ahead on 96-3 in their second innings.

Highly likely that we're done for the day there.

  15. Stumps at Tauntonpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Somerset 326 & 7-1 v Notts 241

Somerset's actual openers of Tom Abell and Azhar Ali survive to the close after the failed experiment of using Tim Groenewald as a nightwatchmen to begin the innings.

They now lead Notts by 92 runs, largely thanks to a superb bowling performance from spin duo Dom Bess (5-59) and Jack Leach (3-79).

Ravi Ashwin has taken the early Somerset wicket, so it doesn't take a genius to work out what's happened to this Taunton pitch.

  16. Essex's day at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Yorkshire 208 & 38-3 v Essex 328

Yorkshire survive the final over, so Adam Lyth will resume on 9 and Harry Brook on 4. That was a real battle for those two after Essex quickly rattled through the top order.

A dominant day indeed for Essex after Ryan ten Doeschate ended not out on 70 following 81 from Tom Westley and an important cameo of 41 from Aaron Beard.

Yorkshire still trail by 86 runs and will have to contend with Simon Harmer on a day three pitch.

    Good luck.

  17. Last over at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Yorkshire 208 & 34-3 v Essex 328

To be bowled by Tom Westley... Part-time spin.

  18. wicket

WICKET: Sibley b Abbott 2published at 18:07 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 4-1 v Hampshire - target 404

Imagine the worst possible start to Warwickshire's improbable run chase. Well, it just happened.

Dom Sibley, their in-form batsman, is on his way back to the dressing room after being bowled by Kyle Abbott.

Sibley played what looked like a decent defensive shot, except he missed the ball, which beat hit outside edge and glanced off stump with enough force to dislodge the bails before ending up at the third-man boundary.

Durham skipper Cameron Bancroft has entered a real run of form. His second century in his last six innings has seen him post nearly 440 runs in that time.

His opening stand with Alex Lees, who has 65, is now 179 and Durham lead Leicestershire in their second innings by 84. What a fightback after they were bowled out in their first innings yesterday for 117.

WICKET: Groenewald c Moores b Ashwin 0published at 17:58 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Somerset 326 & 1-1 v Notts 241

    Nightwatchman fail.

For various reasons this hasn't worked. First of all, surely the nightwatchman should face at the start of the innings as that's the reason he is out there? To protect the recognised batsman.

Well, Tim Groenewald didn't. Somerset captain Tom Abell survived a few balls from Ravi Ashwin - a smart choice to open the bowling on this spinning top - and then took a single. Groenewald edged his third ball behind and it's experiment over.

Azhar Ali comes out and Somerset have their opening batsmen in the middle, except they're already one down. So strange.
