  1. wicket

WICKET: Patel c Fraine b Fisher 35published at 12:42 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Essex 169-4 v Yorkshire 208

Yorkshire have their first breakthrough of the morning as the reintroduction of Matthew Fisher proves immediately successful.

Rishi Patel has a go at a full delivery on middle stump but toe-ends it to Will Fraine at short midwicket. That ends Essex's fourth-wicket stand of 68.

  2. for Roland-Jonespublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Gloucestershire 117-5 v Middlesex 172

I'll hold my hands up and apologise to England fast bowler Toby-Roland Jones. I didn't see you'd taken all five of the Middlesex wickets until just now.

Well bowled lad. Make it 10 out of 10 and I might just be a little more on the ball.

Glooucestershire batsmen Chris Dent, Ben Charlesworth and Benny Howell are his victims so far this morning.

  3. wicket

WICKET: Brookes c McManus b Berg 0published at 12:36 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 254-7 v Hampshire 539

That's two wickets in five balls for Gareth Berg and it's virtually a carbon copy of Ben Mike's dismissal.

Again it swings away, again the batsman plays at it and again Lewis McManus does the necessary. That's a slightly bigger edge and Henry Brookes has gone for a four-ball duck.

Warwickshire are in trouble now despite Sam Hain's hundred.

  4. 400 up for Northantspublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Northants 402-8 v Lancashire

Northamptonshire's tail is wagging superbly against Lancashire. That's a maximum five batting points largely thanks to this unbroken stand between Luke Procter and Nathan Buck that is currently worth 50.

Buck's been the sharpest thorn in Lancashire's side as he's come in and swiped his way to 35 already, including five boundaries.

  5. wicket

WICKET: Mike c McManus b Berg 7published at 12:34 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 254-6 v Hampshire 539

Textbook swing bowling from Gareth Berg, who gets one to move away from the right-handed Ben Mike and take the outside edge.

It's a faint deflection and Lewis McManus makes no mistake behind the stumps.

  6. Notts making good progresspublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Notts 60-1 v Somerset 326

Nottinghamshire have been unperturbed by the early loss of Ben Slater and quickly moved beyond 50 against Somerset thanks to Chris Nash and Jake Libby.

Cue the introduction of Taunton spin king Jack Leach.

  7. 100 runs

for Sam Hainpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 247-5 v Hampshire 539

    Sam HainImage source, Getty Images

A ninth first-class century for the former Queenslander, and one that Warwickshire desperately needed.

It wasn't the prettiest way to get there as an edge to the third man boundary brings up three figures from 196 balls, but it's a fine innings nonetheless and Hain celebrates with a little leap before being embraced by non-striker Ben Mike.

Still plenty to do though, as the Bears need 390 to avoid the prospect of being asked to follow-on, and with less than two days remaining you'd imagine Hampshire would enforce it.

  8. Division Two check-inpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

As we already know, Graham Onions has completed his 5-for as Lancashire look to wrap up the Northants innings at Wantage Road. The home side are rallying though and have moved on to 370-8.

Down the Welford Road an hour or so and Leicestershire are now 171-6 against Durham, already 54 runs ahead on first innings.

Gloucestershire have just lost captain Chris Dent for 38 and are 87-3 having been restricted superbly by the Middlesex bowlers at Merchant Taylors' School. They trail by 85 runs.

Derbyshire are edging clear at Kidderminster as batsmen seem to have finally worked out how to accumulate runs on that sticky wicket. They're 72-2 in their second innings having been skittled for 108 first up, and responding by taking care of Worcestershire for just 113.

  9. wicket

WICKET: Dickson b Curran 1published at 12:18 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Kent 16-1 v Surrey 271-9 declared

It's a day for appalling leaves at The Oval and this one, from Sean Dickson, is arguably worse than Morne Morkel's earlier on.

Dickson shoulders arms in textbook fashion to Sam Curran but, with the angle created by the left-armer bowling around the wicket, it's very risky.

Sure enough, the off stump is uprooted.

WICKET: Ambrose c McManus b Barker 2published at 12:14 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 235-5 v Hampshire 539

That's pretty poor shot from an experienced batsman. Tim Ambrose slashes with an angled bat as he tries to carve former team-mate Keith Barker square on the off side.

Instead he gets an outside edge and Lewis McManus takes a simple catch behind the stumps.

  11. Spin on for Yorkshirepublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Essex 158-3 v Yorkshire 208

The change in seam didn't do the trick, so Yorkshire stick their new spinner Keshav Maharaj on. The South African keeps it tight first up but it's a block-fest from the Essex batsmen.

  12. Postpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Kent 12-0 v Surrey 271-9 declared

A decent start for Kent at The Oval with Zak Crawley, who is being mentioned as a potential England opener for the Ashes, moving on to 11 not out already.

Sean Dickson is at the other end.

  13. for Onionspublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Northants 352-8 v Lancashire

Former England seamer Graham Onions removes Matt Coles' middle stump in spectacular fashion to complete his five-for as Lancashire tear through the Northants tail.

Coles didn't help himself though, he was going for a big, old heave into leg.

  14. Double change for Yorkiespublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Essex 144-3 v Yorkshire 208

It's been tight from Steve Patterson and Ben Coad this morning but so far unsuccessful for Yorkshire, with Essex duo Tom Westley (58) and Rishi Patel (26) still at the crease.

It's more pace on now with Matthew Fisher and Duanne Olivier, both of whom took a wicket yesterday.

  15. wicket

WICKET: Hose lbw Edwards 14published at 11:47 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 229-4 v Hampshire 539

Not much doubt about that one as Fidel Edwards nips one back the right-handed Adam Hose, who is struck below the knee roll.

The umpire has no doubt and Hose is on his way with Warwickshire still 161 short of the follow-on target.

Tim Ambrose is in but it's all eyes on Sam Hain, who is 91 not out.

  16. Clarification from Surreypublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Surrey 271-9 declared v Kent

Here is the declaration explained, and it seems Amar Virdi will not be allowed to play after all. So Surrey will take to the field shortly a bowler down.

    Notts 35-1 v Somerset 326

Jamie Overton of Somerset bowls during Day Two of the County Championship Division One match between Somerset and NottinghamshireImage source, Getty Images

Jamie Overton was reeling having just dropped Ben Slater in the slips off the bowling of Lewis Gregroy, but he picked himself up and banged a short ball into the Notts left-hander who tried to slash it to the extra-cover boundary.

    It didn't work.

High in the air it goes, giving Somerset skipper Tom Abell a long time to think about it. But he makes absolutely no mistake.

  18. Surrey have declared on 271-9published at 11:34 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Morkel b Milnes 0

Perhaps they're reciprocating Kent's earlier sportsmanship by not sending Amar Virdi, who has been allowed to replace the unwell Gareth Batty in the Surrey XI, out to bat.

Instead they have declared at the fall of Morne Morkel's wicket. And that was not a great leave by the South African.

He has shouldered arms to Matt Milnes and the Kent bowler has hit the top of middle stump to finish with 3-54. Harry Podmore took 3-42.

  19. Westley finally gets a runpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Essex 132-3 v Yorkshire 208

Tom Westley resumed on 52 this morning and the Essex batsman has stayed on that score for the opening half-hour of day two. Ben Coad finally strays on to his pads and Westley can clip a single to long leg.

Yorkshire are not making things easy.

WICKET: Clarke lbw Milnes 27published at 11:25 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Surrey 269-8 v Kent

But he's gone now. Kent were convinced they had their man but Rikki Clarke didn't seem worried until the umpire raised his finger.

He doesn't seem happy but it looked pretty close as Matt Milnes struck him on the back pad. Maybe he thought he was struck outside the line but it matters not.

Surrey eight down and struggling to make 300.
