WICKET: Foakes b Podmore 60published at 11:17 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Surrey 267-7 v Kent

And there is the first wicket of the morning in Division One as Harry Podmore strikes for Kent.

He gets a delivery to nip back at Ben Foakes and it sneaks between bat and pad and bowls the England wicketkeeper.

In comes Jordan Clark (minus the e) to join Rikki Clarke (with the e).

Lancs start fast at Northamptonpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Northants 335-7 v Lancashire

Two wickets already for Lancashire with Adam Rossington and Brett Hutton gone.

Former England fast bowler Graham Onions has snared the big wicket of Northamptonshire skipper Rossington by having him caught behind for 76.

Ex-Northants seamer Richard Gleeson has backed that up by cleaning bowling new batsman Hutton for 1.

  5. Somerset chase early wicketspublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Notts 9-0 v Somerset 326

Ben Slater and Jake Libby are the men out in the middle for Nottinghamshire at Taunton after day one ended with Somerset being bowled out for 326.

These opening three overs from Lewis Gregory and Jamie Overton has resulted in several false shots and prodding of the pitch from the Notts openers.

Survival mode for Slater and Libby.

  6. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 200-3 v Hampshire 539

Adam Hose guides Gareth Berg to point and he and Sam Hain run two to bring up the Warwickshire 200.

Conditions are set fair in Southampton but they still need 188 more to avoid the follow-on.

  7. Tight start from Yorkshirepublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Essex 123-3 v Yorkshire 208

Yorkshire skipper Steve Patterson starts things off with a maiden to Essex batsman Tom Westley, who is 52 not out.

Right-arm seam from the other end too, with Ben Coad almost repeating his captain's miserly effort to Rishi Patel, who flicks a single off the final ball for the first run of the morning.

These two have added 22 runs since coming together but that's taken more than 13 overs.

  8. We're under waypublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

Off we go then. If it's anything like yesterday, expect a wicket flash any, second, now...

  9. All the scorespublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

Here's where we are then with play due to start at 11:00 BST in all of our matches, barring an unlikely downpour. It's set fair for a full day in most parts of the country, by the way.

    • Yorkshire 208 v Essex 122-3 (close, day one)
    • Somerset 326 v Nottinghamshire (close, day one)
    • Surrey 244-6 v Kent (close, day one)

    DIVISION TWO

    • Durham 117 v Leicestershire 124-4 (close, day one)
    • Middlesex 172 v Gloucestershire 59-2 (close, day one)

    • Derbyshire 108 & 19-0 v Worcestershire 113 (close, day one)
  10. Not ridiculous!published at 10:56 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Derbyshire 108 & 19-1 v Worcestershire 113

    Fynn Hudson-PrenticeImage source, Rex Features

No question that Kidderminster provided the craziest opening day but Derbyshire's Fynn Hudson-Prentice, who top-scored jointly with 31 and claimed three wickets, agrees with our man Dan Wheeler about the Chester Road surface.

"I spoke to the umpires quite a bit during tea and they said it wasn't ridiculous movement, it was just enough movement to catch the edges," he said.

"It seemed like 50 per cent of the balls that seamed would catch the edge or be lbw."

  11. Two-day finish?published at 10:54 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Derbyshire 108 & 19-1 v Worcestershire 113

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Derbyshire openers Billy Godleman and Luis Reece May avoided the ignominy of being dismissed twice in the same day, but they - along with everyone who bats from now on - have to show they’ve learnt lessons from the first innings.

While this pitch isn’t the usual get-your-boots-on-and-fill-them surface at Chester Road, it’s far from a terror track.

The ball’s swinging and nipping off the seam just enough to make a tight technique and sound shot selection paramount.

With a good session for either side capable of winning this, it should be exciting.

  12. Extra overspublished at 10:52 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Surrey 244-6 v Kent

A delayed start due to a wet outfield and an early finish because of bad light meant only 78.4 overs were bowled at The Oval on day one.

So there are revised timings again today in an effort to make up for lost time.

  13. Blue skies for the Bearspublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 8 July 2019

    Warwickshire 198-3 v Hampshire 539

Warwickshire ought to fancy the task at The Ageas Bowl at the start of day three in the match that began 24 hours before the others.

They have Sam Hain resuming on 68 and excellent batting conditions. It's just the small matter of a 341-run deficit that might make things tricky.
