WICKET Rossouw c Stoneman b Clarke 18published at 16:35 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Hampshire 142-4 v Surrey

Rikki Clarke continues to be the man doing the damage for Surrey as he picks up his third wicket.

Rilee Rossouw managed 18 from 30 balls before hitting a drive straight to Mark Stoneman.

Liam Dawson is the latest to join James Vince at the crease.

  2. Yates underlines potentialpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwickshire 224-2 v Somerset

    Michael Perkins
    BBC Sport

A superb hundred from Rob Yates.

With most of England, and for that matter Australia, looking for someone who can bat at number three, we might have just found one for some time in the future.

That of course heaps masses of unnecessary pressure on a player who is only 19 years of age but away from the limelight, the Solihull-born left-hander was roared to three figures by the modest crowd as he sent the ball into the leg-side for his first Championship hundred.

The innings was built on an exemplary technique, a good deal of patience and some very skillful strokes too.

Stick his name on the list.

  3. Robinson receives Sussex cappublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Middlesex 75 v Sussex

    Adrian Harms
    Sports reporter, BBC Sussex

Time to draw breath at Hove as Middlesex are bundled out in just 21.4 overs on a good wicket

Ollie Robinson was magnificent, bowling line and length and supported by terrific catching, and to crown a wonderful day was awarded his county cap as he left the field at tea.

  4. Vince settles in for final sessionpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Hampshire 134-3 v Surrey

The final session of the day is under way at The Oval, with Hampshire adding 26 so far to their 116-3 at tea.

James Vince has progressed to 34 not out and Rilee Rossouw has 18 at the other end.

Rob Yates gives the impression of being quite a modest young man.

No punching the air, no whoop of delight after pushing Craig Overton away for two runs to bring up a maiden century.

Instead the 19-year-old contents himself with wiping the sweat from his brow on his wristband and then raising his bat to acknowledge the applause of the Edgbaston crowd.

What a tremendous innings this has been - lasting 215 balls so far, and including 16 fours.

WICKET Billings lbw S Cook 1published at 16:19 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Kent 36-3 v Essex

    Sam CookImage source, Rex Features

Not a happy return to first-class cricket for Sam Billings, who falls in identical fashion to team-mate Sean Dickson after a brief 10-ball appearance at the crease.

Sam Cook was the successful bowler, and he has yet to concede a run from four overs bowled so far.

A first bowling point is in the kitbag for leaders Essex.

  7. Higgins completes 'five-for'published at 16:18 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Derbyshire 150-8 v Gloucestershire - tea

Gloucestershire are well on top at Derby where Ryan Higgins collected his fifth wicket of the innings by bowling Alex Hughes for 39 with the final ball before tea.

The all-rounder now has 5-46, and the afternoon session also saw loanee Ben Allison pick up his first for the club, trapping Matt Critchley lbw.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice is 29 not out for Derbyshire, who only have Logan van Beek and Ravi Rampaul to come.

  8. wicket

WICKET Finn lbw Beer 5published at 16:14 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Middlesex 75 v Sussex

Will Beer ends Middlesex's 21.4 over first innings at Hove by having Steven Finn lbw for five.

Demolisher-in-chief, though, was Ollie Robinson, whose 8-34 is a career-best display.

This game didn't start until after lunch because of rain - but that has definitely been an afternoon to forget for the visitors.

  9. Lees lays foundation for Durhampublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Durham 254-3 v Leicestershire - tea

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle commentator

Durham have enjoyed the best of day one of their County Championship encounter with Leicestershire and Alex Lees' 147 is his best score for the county - and his third championship century of the season.

He brought up his 100 in 137 balls, with 13 fours, after an opening stand with Cameron Steel worth 75.

He then added 43 for the second wicket with debutant Angus Robson ( a former Leics player) and 77 for the third with Peter Handscomb.

The Aussie is also making hisCchampionship debut for Durham, but fell lbw for 29 to Chris Wright.

  10. Yorkshire fightback during afternoonpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 192-7 v Notts - tea

North Marine GroundImage source, Rex Features

Yorkshire have fought back strongly from a precarious morning where Notts had them well and truly on the ropes.

Jonny Tattersall is still at the crease on an unbeaten 81 and it was his partnership with Tim Bresnan (58) that brought the hosts back into the game.

Together they moved the score from 38-5 to 159-6 during the afternoon.

It was Notts' morning but Yorkshire's afternoon.

So, one session each, who will seize the initiative this evening?

  11. wicket

WICKET Dickson lbw S Cook 8published at 16:04 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Kent 23-2 v Essex

Good line, good length - too good for Sean Dickson.

Sam Cook strikes in his second over as the Kent opener is leg-before, and that's 2-0 so far for the Essex pace bowler.

Sam Billings is the new batsman for the home side, his first Championship innings of the season.

  12. Glamorgan all out after entertaining standpublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Glamorgan 257 v Lancashire

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

An entertaining two sessions on the North Wales coast, but it’s the visitors on top thanks to four wickets each from Tom Bailey and Danny Lamb, the latter's first victims in first-class cricket.

Glamorgan lost four wickets for six runs in 12 balls in mid-afternoon, only to smash 112 runs for their remaining two wickets.

Samit Patel hit an entertaining 54 on debut, before the last-wicket pair of Lukas Carey (51*) and Michael Hogan (32) hammered the ball around in a stand of 52 in five overs.

Lancashire should still end the day on top on a slow wicket unless we see a further turnaround in momentum in the final session.

  13. Clarke slows Hampshire momentumpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Hampshire 116-3 v Surrey - tea

James Vince is unbeaten on 26 and Rilee Rossouw is yet to get off the mark after facing seven balls, as tea is called at the Kia Oval.

Hampshire had been making good progress with only the loss of one wicket, but Rikki Clarke then claimed two victims in five balls to halt their momentum and set-up an interesting evening session.

    WICKET Roland-Jones c Finch b Haines 9published at 15:53 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Middlesex 50-9 v Sussex

Wonder if Tom Haines feels at all sheepish at denying team-mate Ollie Robinson the chance to take all 10 in the innings?

After being hit for six over mid-wicket by Toby Roland-Jones, the medium-pacer has him caught at second slip from his next delivery.

Whoever is knocking them over, this is an embarrassing afternoon for Middlesex following a delayed start.

  15. Yates sets sights on maiden tonpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwickshire 200-2 v Somerset - tea

Another good session for Warwickshire at Edgbaston as they add 95 to their 105-1 at lunch for the loss of Will Rhodes.

He went for 82 after a stand of 153 with Rob Yates, who has equalled his best first-class score by reaching 91 not out at tea.

Sam Hain is playing the supporting role at the other end, with 13 from 70 balls so far.

  16. wicket

WICKET Sowter c Brown b Robinson 2published at 15:50 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Middlesex 44-8 v Sussex

Whatever happens now, these will be career-best figures for Ollie Robinson, whose previous best in an innings was 7-23.

Nathan Sowter is the second victim in his latest over as an inside edge is taken by keeper Ben Brown.

From Middlesex's point of view, at least they have beaten their 41 all out against Sussex at Lord's in 1924.

  17. wicket

WICKET Maharaj b Fletcher 7published at 15:46 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 182-7 v Notts

Luke Fletcher now has his first wicket of the day as he accounts for Keshav Maharaj.

The ball seemed to stay low and skid its way to the stumps to bring Maharaj's innings to an abrupt end.

He scored seven in 14 balls which included a six off the bowling of.... you guessed it, Fletcher.

    Revenge.

Hampshire opener Ian Holland, who has just departed for 51 against Surrey, had a fairly unique pathway into the professional world of cricket.

For an entertaining bit of Sunday afternoon reading and not to mention a good story to impress your mates with at the pub, read how Holland has former Australian captain Allan Border to thank for his career in the game.

    He couldn't, could he?

There's another for Ollie Robinson as an absolute beauty leaves John Simpson off the pitch and clips the top of off stump.

The Sussex all-rounder now has 7-23 from 8.1 overs.

  20. Batting point for Bearspublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwicks 200-2 v Somerset

Warwickshire collect a first batting point as Rob Yates pulls away a short ball from Jack Brooks for four.

It's the young left-hander's 15th boundary so far and carries him to 91 not out - equalling his highest first-class score against Hampshire earlier this season.
