We've had the toss at Hove and Sussex skipper Ben Brown has decided to insert Middlesex after winning it.

Their attack also includes Jared Warner, who is back from Yorkshire for a second loan spell.

    Felix OrganImage source, Rex Features

Hampshire openers Ian Holland (13*) and Felix Organ (11*) are moving along slowly but surely against Surrey at the Kia Oval.

Bowlers Morne Morkel and Sam Curran are on the prowl for the breakthrough.

Only 12 overs have been bowled in this one after a rain delay meant the action got underway at 1.10pm.

Worcestershire's decline continues at Wantage Road where Brett Hutton has dimissed Wayne Parnell for 30, his sixth wicket of the innings. The visitors are 109-8 in the 34th over.

No joy yet for third-placed Gloucestershire in the early post-lunch session, with Derbyshire advancing to 72-5 in the 34th over.

Durham have reached three figures at the Riverside, with Alex Lees unbeaten on 73 out of their 114-1 against Leicestershire.

The over ends with a cover drive for four by the left-hander who progresses to 65 not out. Rob Yates has 55 to his name at the other end.

  8. Timely partnership from Yorkshire pairpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 89-5 v Notts

Good running from Tattersall and Bresnan who work hard to get back for the two runs that take them to a 50 partnership shortly after lunch.

Looking more positive for Yorkshire but that top-order collapse this morning still means there is a lot of work to do during the afternoon session.

  9. 50 runs

for Rob Yatespublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwicks 110-1 v Somerset

Rob Yates turns Craig Overton's second delivery after lunch away for four to square leg and brings up his second Championship half-century.

This one has taken him exactly 100 balls and the 19-year-old is doing a great job for his side so far.

He is 51 not out - the same score as partner Will Rhodes.

  10. Surrey make quick changepublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Hampshire 19-0 v Surrey

    Sam CurranImage source, Rex

Sam Curran is given just three overs in his opening spell at The Oval, with cost him seven runs.

Rikki Clarke is called up to replace the left-armer, whose brother Tom has been ruled out for the rest of the season, as Surrey press for a breakthrough after Hampshire won the toss and chose to bat and his opener is a maiden.

Only one boundary so far, clipped away by Ian Holland off Morne Morkel.

  11. Hants make belated start at Ovalpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Hampshire 11-0 v Surrey

Surrey certainly haven't reached last summer's Championship-winning standards this summer, but they have a new-ball pairing to be reckoned with for this match, with England's Sam Curran cleared for action and opening up with Morne Morkel.

Hampshire captain James Vince, having experimented with going in first earlier in the season in the hope of cementing a spot in England's Test side, does not do so on this occasion as Felix Organ and Ian Holland have the pads on first up.

Apart from four leg byes, they have to settle for ones and twos in the first four overs.

    Derbyshire 62-5 v Gloucestershire - lunch

All-rounder Ryan Higgins claimed 3-13 as third-placed Gloucestershire seized the initiative during the opening morning at Derby.

They sent back the Derbyshire openers with only five on the board and Higgins rounded things off by having Tom Lace lbw for 16 just two overs before the interval.

Wayne Madsen's 21 is the best score so far for the home side, for whom Alex Hughes and Harvey Hosein will resume after lunch.

Kent 11-1 v Essex - rain stopped play

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

The sun is now out at Canterbury which will help the groundstaff after a period of sometimes torrential rain.

When play does resume, the first couple of hours will be crucial as Kent look to resist a strong Essex attack which includes Mohammad Amir.

The Pakistan paceman has already struck once and will threaten with late swing in what is expected to be his final Championship appearance. Whether Kent can resist may determine the course of the match.

  14. Pears in disarraypublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Worcs 96-7 v Northants - lunch

Worcestershire chose to bat after winning the toss at Wantage Road and what a clamitous decision that turned out to be.

Brett Hutton produced an opening burst of 5-23 as the visitors were reduced to 31-6 and although England's Moeen Ali made 42, he then gave his wicket away with a loose shot, having previously been dropped.

Wayne Parnell and Ed Barnard survived the final 12 overs before the interval, adding 38 so far.

  15. Fast Notts start catches Yorkshire coldpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 84-5 v Notts

    Tim BresnanImage source, Rex Features

Lunch at Scarborough where the morning has belonged to Notts, and in particular Luke Wood.

He has taken all five of his side's wickets today after a devastating spell of bowling that saw Yorkshire on 13-4 at one point.

The home side finally settled down in the latter part of the session, with Jonny Tattersall and Tim Bresnan adding a much-needed partnership of 46 runs.

Wood will be looking for more wickets to break that partnership during the afternoon and put his side in a good position to claim their first County Championship win of the season.

It has been Warwickshire's morning at Edgbaston - which certainly didn't look like being the cease when their leading run-scorer, Dom Sibley, departed for a duck in Jack Brooks' opening over.

Will Rhodes made an 82-ball fifty and he and fellow left-hander Rob Yates (47 not out) have collected 15 boundaries between them.

Title-chasing Somerset began the game four points behind leaders Essex and although tidy so far, will be looking for more wickets during the afternoon session.

Glamorgan recovered from early troubles to a respectable 94-3 after the first session in the clash of the second division’s top two.

Despite the loss of Graham Onions to a hamstring injury in the warm-ups, Tom Bailey put the visitors in good heart by removing Nick Selman and Australia batsman Shaun Marsh in his first four overs.

Danny Lamb trapped David Lloyd lbw for 17 and Glamorgan were in trouble on a slow low pitch, but the patient Charlie Hemphrey and the adventurous Billy Root put together a half-century stand by lunch.
