Will Rhodes reaches 50 for the fifth time in this season's Championship, with a flick down to long leg for one off Jamie Overton. This half-century has taken 82 balls and has also brought up a 100 partnership with Rob Yates, who is 43 not out.

  3. Durham buck the trendpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Durham 84-1 v Leicestershire

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle commentator

While it may have been raining wickets around the country today on the resumption of the Championship - how often does that happen after the T20? - it has not been the case in Chester-le-Street.

Durham were put in by Leicestershire and had 75 on the board before Cameron Steel departed for 24, edging Gavin Griffiths to Colin Ackerman at second slip.

Meanwhile, Alex Lees has reached his fourth half century of the season. It came in 62 balls and eight fours, with three of them in one over from Will Davis.

Angus Robson, brother of Middlesex's Sam, is making his Durham debut - and against his former club. Meanwhile former Leicestershire wicket-keeper batsman Ned Eckersley is skippering Durham for the first time. He is their 28th captain in first-class cricket and yesterday signed a new two-year deal.

    Breaking

In case you haven't heard, Australia batsman Steve Smith will not play any further part in the second Ashes Test against England because of concussion. Smith was struck by a bouncer from Jofra Archer on Saturday.

Marnus Labuschagne has been drafted into Australia's team as a replacement and can play a full part in the rest of the game.

  5. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Tom Bailey has had a good morning in his first game for leaders Lancashire for two and a half months following a knee injury, taking 2-12 so far as they have restricted Glamorgan to 69-3 in the 25th over at Colwyn Bay.

Worcestershire are now 74-7 in the 22nd against Northants following the recent departure of Moeen Ali for 42. Wayne Parnell has just become the second Pears batsman to reach double figures.

Josh Shaw has removed Leus du Plooy for 15 and Gloucestershire are on top at Derby, with the home side 58-4 in the 22nd over.

Opener Alex Lees has scored another fifty for Durham, who have reached 80-1 against Leicestershire, with Angus Robson beginning his first innings for the club following the recent dismissal of Cameron Steel by Gavin Griffiths for 24.

  6. Yorkshire partnership requiredpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 60-5 v Notts

Yorkshire have reached 60 after 19 overs, with Tim Bresnan adding 16 from 23 balls since his arrival at the crease.

Jonny Tattersall is now on 22 from 34 balls.

The departed Will Fraine is the only other Yorkshire batsmen to have reached double figures.

  7. Warwickshire pair continue standpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwicks 78-1 v Somerset

    Rob YatesImage source, Getty Images

Rob Yates hits back-to-back boundaries off Jack Brooks - the first glanced down the fine leg, and the second sliced fortuitously past gully - after one by partner Will Rhodes earlier in the over.

He moves on to 35 not out, just one fewer than Rhodes, but spinner Dom Bess is keeping it tight at the other end, conceding only seven from his first four overs.

  8. Kent upbeat on prospectspublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Kent 11-1 v Essex - rain stopped play

The players are still off the field at Canterbury, but Kent are hopeful that this will be the last interruption of the day. No news yet regarding an early lunch.

WICKET Moeen c Procter b Buck 42published at 12:18 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Worcs 58-7 v Northants

Moeen Ali hit nine fours at Wantage Road, but now he's gone - and it's a really poor stroke which brings about his downfall.

There is absolutely no foot movement from the England all-rounder as he gives Luke Procter catching practice at cover, and gives Nathan Buck his first wicket.

Mind you, it's hard to criticise someone who has scored 42 of the 58 runs scored by Worcestershire so far.

Brett Hutton is taking a breather after his opening spell of 5-23 from seven overs for Northants.

WICKET Fraine c Nash b Wood 11published at 12:08 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 42-5 v Notts

    Make that five!

Wood has his first 'five-fer' of the season after dismissing ex-Notts player Will Fraine.

A short ball does for the opener, who can only direct the pacy delivery to Chris Nash waiting at third slip.

A morning to remember for Luke Wood. One to forget for Yorkshire.

  11. Bears pair post fifty standpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwicks 55-1 v Somerset

Will Rhodes drives Craig Overton away through the covers for three runs to bring up a half-century partnership with Rob Yates, who follows suit with a three of his own later in the over.

Rhodes has 26, Yates is 25 not out and it's time for Somerset to introduce spin, with Dom Bess brought into the attack.

It's fair to say Luke Wood bowled fairly well during the opening stages this morning.

He has put himself in a great position to claim his first five-wicket haul of the season and post his best figures of the campaign, which are currently 4-85.

  13. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Brett HuttonImage source, Rex Features

This is quite some spell by Northamptonshire's Brett Hutton, who has taken 5-19 in six overs to help reduce Worcestershire to 35-6. Moeen Ali, who is 24 not out but has been dropped, must be wondering what on earth is going on.

Leaders Lancashire have claimed a second victim at Colwyn Bay, where Tom Bailey has removed Australian Shaun Marsh, lbw for eight. Glamorgan are 31-2 in the 16th over.

Derbyshire are struggling on 35-3 in the 14th against third-placed Gloucestershire, with Wayne Madsen the latest to go, bowled by Ryan Higgins for 21.

It has been a solid start so far by Durham at the Riverside, where they are 46-0 after 14 against Leicestershire, with Alex Lees 26 not out and Cameron Steel on 20.

Remember, no play before lunch at Hove where Sussex are taking on Middlesex.

  14. Fraine the calming influencepublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 35-4 v Notts

    Will FraineImage source, Rex Features

Opener Will Fraine is the man attempting to keep his head while all those about him are losing theirs.

He has moved on to 11 from 25 balls as Yorkshire attempt to desperately steady the ship.

As the number six batsman, I doubt Jonny Tattersall thought he would be batting at all this morning, let alone by about half an hour after the start of play.

He has added 13 to the total since his early arrival.

  15. Near thing for Rhodespublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwickshire 41-1 v Somerset

A slice of good fortune for Will Rhodes, who edges a ball from Craig Overton but it doesn't quite carry to second slip, who is also unable to prevent it running away for four runs.

Rhodes advances to 23 not out, with partner on 14, and Somerset continue to strive for a second breakthrough at Edgbaston, with the Overton brothers now operating in tandem.

  16. rain stops play

    Kent 11-1 v Essex

One ball into the 10th over at the Spitfire Ground and the players are forced off the field by what Latin scholars might call a pluvia.

Looks like the wet stuff is all in the south at the moment, with no play yet at Hove or The Oval - or in the Lord's Test between England and Australia.

Sean Dickson is three not out for Kent, with Daniel Bell-Drummond on two - and Mohammad Amir will continue his over for Essex when the rain relents.

  17. Nightmare start for Worcestershirepublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Worcs 15-4 v Northants

Moeen Ali has been on board a few sinking ships during his England career, but today it's the Worcestershire first innings that is listing to starboard after they opted to bat first after winning the toss at Wantage Road.

All-rounder Moeen, batting at three, is 11 not out, but four Pears batsmen are already back in the dressing room, the latest Alex Milton, who was caught behind off Brett Hutton.

Seam bowler Hutton has 3-10 so far, with new-ball partner Ben Sanderson claiming the wicket of opener Daryl Mitchell.

  20. Bears look to regrouppublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwicks 26-1 v Somerset

That wasn't fully out of the middle, but Will Rhodes gets enough bat on it to pick up a boundary off Jamie Overton at Edgbaston.

The laft-hander is 14 not out, and partner Rob Yates is on eight, as they try to rebuild for Warwickshire after the early loss of Dom Sibley.

Worth pointing out that all-rounder Lewis Gregory, Somerset's leading Championship wicket-taker, is not involved in this match.
