  1. wicket

WICKET Brook c Moores b Wood 6published at 11:28 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 13-4 v Notts

Do not adjust your screen, this is really happening.

Luke Wood has claimed his fourth wicket!

Harry Brook is the latest man to fall in this devastating spell as he plays at a ball from Wood but is beaten for pace and nicks it to the waiting wicket-keeper Moores.

    Unbelievable start for Notts.

  2. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Tom Bailey has struck an early blow for leaders Lancashire at Colwyn Bay, by having Nick Selman caught behind by Dane Vilas. Glamorgan are 9-1 in the sixth over.

Third-placed Gloucestershire are already two wickets to the good at Derby, with David Payne and Ryan Higgins sending back openers Billy Godleman and Luis Reece. Derbyshire are 5-2 in the fifth.

Moeen Ali is already at the crease for Worcestershire against Northants after Jack Haynes was bowled by Brett Hutton for a duck. The visitors are 12-1 after six overs.

Durham have Angus Robson in their team for the first time against former club Leicestershire, but he is still waiting in the pavilion as they are 16-0 in the sixth over at the Riverside.

Finally, as we told you earlier, there will be no play before lunch in the game between Sussex and Middlesex at Hove because of a wet outfield.

  3. wicket

    WICKET Kohler-Cadmore b Wood 1published at 11:20 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 7-3 v Notts

    Luke WoodImage source, Rex Features

Incredible bowling from Luke Wood!! He has his third wicket of the morning and we've only been playing 20 minutes.

He steams in and delivers a wonderful ball which beats Kohler-Cadmore all ends-up as he tries to block it, before going on to hit middle and off.

Great bowling from Wood and Notts have Yorkshire reeling.

  4. wicket

WICKET Crawley b Amir 5published at 11:15 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Kent 7-1 v Essex

    Mohammad AmirImage source, Rex Features

With Peter Siddle away playing for Australia, Mohammad Amir is a pretty handy deputy for Essex and he produces a beauty to clean up Zak Crawley in his second over.

Crawley tries to drive, but late swing and movement in off the seam results in his off stump being knocked out of the ground.

Great start by the Division One leaders.

  5. wicket

WICKET Ballance c Libby b Wood 0published at 11:14 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 5-2 v Notts

And it gets better for Luke Wood and Notts very quickly as Gary Ballance is removed by the bowler just two balls later.

What a start by the team currently propping-up the division - who saw this coming?

  6. wicket

WICKET Lyth c Moores b Wood 4published at 11:11 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Yorkshire 5-1 v Notts

Early breakthrough for Notts as they look to register their first County Championship win of the season, as Luke Wood gets Lyth caught behind.

  7. wicket

WICKET Sibley c van der Merwe b Brooks 0published at 11:08 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Warwicks 0-1 v Somerset

Great start by Somerset at Edgbaston.

After a maiden from Craig Overton to Will Rhodes, Jack Brooks strikes with his fourth delivery as Dom Sibley is taken at gully by Roelof van der Merwe.

Sibley is another 'in the frame' for England - but that won't do his Test prospects a lot of good.

Incidentally, young pace bowler George Garrett is making his Championship debut for Warwickshire in this match, so best of luck to him.

  8. Start delayed at the Kia Ovalpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Surrey v Hampshire

    Kia OvalImage source, Rex Features

Play is underway at grounds across the country, but unfortunately not at the Kia Oval, where Surrey and Hampshire are being kept waiting by the rain.

It looked a very soggy scene this morning but the forecast is promising for the rest of the day so we hope they will be underway there soon.

  9. Positive start by Crawleypublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    Kent 4-0 v Essex

Kent's Zak Crawley has been spoken about as a potential England Test player and a big innings against the Division One leaders would order continue.

Crawley is off the mark at Canterbury with an on-drive for four in Jamie Porter's opening over. Pakistan's Mohammad Amir will take the new ball at the other end.

  10. Play under waypublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

"I know of no game more fitting than the age old game of cricket, it has honour, it has character and it's British" - the words of Sir Ray Davies, written in the 1970s, and you can't argue with a knight of the realm.

Hopefully, we'll see plenty of honour and character displayed over the next four days - and the players are out in the middle at seven of the nine grounds and ready for action.

  11. Somerset hope for Babar boostpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Warwickshire v Somerset (play starts 11:00)

Babar Azam has scored more than 430 T20 runs for Somerset in recent weeks - and supporters are excited to see what he can do against a red ball in a one-off Championship appearance at Edgbaston.

He will feature against Warwickshire, with Somerset looking for another overseas player for their final three games after Azhar Ali was called home by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Babar averages a relatively modest 37 in first-class cricket but an innings of 127 not out in a Test against New Zealand last year showed just what he is capable of.

Will Babar beef up Somerset's title challenge with big runs against the Bears? We shall see.

Worcestershire fans received some excellent news yesterday ahead of their Division Two game against Northants.

Let's hope Mo can find a bit of form with the bat this week. That would be excellent news for England too.

Moeen to make return in Championship

England all-rounder Moeen Ali makes himself available to play for Worcestershire in their County Championship game at Northampton.

  14. Time running out for Nottspublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Yorkshire v Nottinghamshire (play starts 11:00)

Notts head coach Peter MooresImage source, Rex Features

Climbing out of a rut is a lot, lot harder than falling into one - and so it is with Nottinghamshire, who have tried and failed on 10 occasions to win a Championship game this summer.

Peter Moores' side are now surely at the point of no return if they wish to extricate themselves from the sole relegation place in Division One this season.

Victory over third-placed Yorkshire at Scarborough is an absolute must to give them renewed hope ahead of the two home fixtures which follow next month, against Kent and Warwickshire.

Chris Nash will skipper the team as Steven Mullaney continues his recovery following knee surgery, and having allowed Samit Patel to join Glamorgan on loan, they have all-rounder Paul Coughlin in the team for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in May.

  15. Looking good for Lancashirepublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Glamorgan v Lancashire (play starts 11:00)

Lancashire's Dane VilasImage source, Rex Features

In case you have forgotten, were it not for a single-point deduction imposed for a slow over-rate against Roses rivals Yorkshire in 2018, then Lancashire would still have been playing in Division One of the Championship this summer.

The Red Rose county, though, took it on the chin, girded their loins, and set out their stall to make an immediate return to the top flight - and they go into their game against fellow promotion contenders Glamorgan at the top of Division Two and 41 points clear of Northants in fourth place.

The Welsh county are also looking a good bet for one of the three promotion spots available in 2019, but how will they react to the loss of Marnus Labuschagne, now in Australia's Ashes squad after scoring 1,114 Championship runs at an average of over 65. The arrival on loan of Samit Patel from Notts should help fill the gap.

Glamorgan last played in Division One in 2005, a summer which also Gloucestershire relegated, but both teams could be heading in the opposite direction this year - with the 'dark horses' from Bristol in third place as they prepare to face Derbyshire by virtue of winning their last two Championship games back in July.

  16. Two horse race?published at 10:43 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

    County Championship (play starts 11:00)

It could be a neck-and-neck race for the finish line in Division One between seven-times champions Essex and Somerset, who are desperate to achieve their first title win 144 years after the club was formed - 144 years ago yesterday, in fact.

Somerset have been top for much of the season, but it is the men from Chelmsford who were the form team before the T20 Blast break, winning their last five games in a row.

Essex v SomersetImage source, Rex Features
    Image caption,

Essex's Simon Harmer bowling against Somerset in June

They lead the table by four points going into their match against Kent at Canterbury, with Somerset, who take on Warwickshire at Edgbaston, 34 points clear of Yorkshire in third.

Will the end-of-season showdown between the two sides at Taunton, starting on 23 September, be a title decider? Let's hope so.

  19. Delayed start in Hovepublished at 10:36 British Summer Time 18 August 2019

Sussex and Middlesex are 29 and 15 points respectively outside the top three, so they could both do with a winning streak over the remaining weeks of the season. Conditions in Hove, though, means there won't be any play in the opening session.

After Friday's entire T20 Blast programme was washed out by the weather, what do the elements have in store for us today?

'Dodgy at times, in certain areas' just about sums it up.

    Apologies for non-meteorological phraseology.
