Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas is continuing his assault on the Glamorgan attack, and has hit five sixes now in his 181 not out in a total of 401-6, which has brought them maximum batting points.

Leicestershire have made a good start in reply to Durham's 544-9 dec, reaching 63-0 after 18 overs at tea, with Paul Horton 41 not out.

Sussex are striving for a second breakthrough at Hove, where Middlesex are 43-1 in their second innibngs, still 191 behind.

  3. Kent keep Cook in checkpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Kent 226 v Essex 10-1

Sir Alastair Cook enjoyed a glittering international career. Darren Stevens didn't.

But the veteran all-rounder is giving the former England captain plenty to hink about at Canterbury.

Cook has made two from 26 balls so far, and Stevens has permitted one scoring stroke in his first four overs - and that was just a single.

  5. Testing final session for Somersetpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Warwicks 419 v Somerset 58-3

    Jeetan PatelImage source, Getty Images

Jeetan Patel bowls the final over before tea at Edgbaston and there is a single apiece for Steven Davies and Tom Banton.

There are, in theory, 35 overs left in the day's play and Somerset need a good final session to boost their chances of achieveing their first objective -t avoid the possibility of following on.

They were rocked when James Hildreth and Babar Azam fell to successive balls from Oliver Hannon-Dalby, but Steven Davies has looked fairly assured so far and is 31 not out.

  6. 150 runs

for Dane Vilaspublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Glamorgan 257 v Lancashire 362-6

Superb batting by Dane Vilas, who rocks onto the back foot before Samit Patel away for two runs to reach 150 off just 162 balls.

The Lancashire skipper has hit three sixes and 20 fours so far, but Glamorgan have at least removed Rob Jones, who was run out by Charlie Hemphrey for 33 after a stand of 115.

  7. Lyth and Fraine build Yorkshire leadpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Yorkshire 232 & 61-0 v Notts 184

Adam Lyth (31*) and Will Fraine (22*) have safely found their way through the afternoon to tea.

The lead is now 109 runs and Yorkshire are moving into a commanding position.

How Notts could do with Luke Wood to produce another bowling display like yesterday.

Remember, they are yet to win a County Championship game this season and need to get points on the board to avoid a possible relegation.

  8. Garrett makes bow for Bearspublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Warwicks 419 v Somerset 56-3

George Garrett bowls his first over in Championship cricket after reliving Henry Brookes and it yields only a single to Tom Banton, who is batting down the order for Somerset because of an injury.

Steven Davies is 30 not out in his role as makeshift opener, but the visitors are 363 behind with 36 overs still to go in a rain-interrupted days play.

WICKET Browne c Rayner b Podmore 6published at 16:13 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Kent 226 v Essex 8-1

    Harry PodmoreImage source, Rex Features

There aren't many better slip fielders around the county circuit than Ollie Rayner and he takes a sharp diving chance at second slip to send Nick Browne on his way.

Alastair Cook has yet to score at the other end, having played out a Darren Stevens maiden in the previous over.

  10. wicket

    WICKET Abbott c Finch b S Curran 72published at 16:11 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

Hampshire 367 all out v Surrey

Kyle Abbott is the last man to fall but his innings has put Hampshire in a very strong position.

His partnership with number 10 batsman Ryan Stevenson added over 110 runs to the overnight total of 222-7.

Abbott went for a big shot off Sam Curran's bowling but holed-out in the deep with the catch taken by Aaron Finch.

Tea is signalled after the dismissal, so Surrey will have the full evening session to make up some of those runs.

  11. Higgins reaches half-centurypublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Derbyshire 200 v Gloucs 244-5

Ryan Higgins completes a half-century just before tea at Derby as he and opener Chris Dent share an unbroken stand of 101 to put their side on top.

Higgins is 51 not out, after his five wickets in Derbyshire's first innings, with Dent on 103 after batting for almost five and a quarter hours so far.

It's been slow going at times, but the third-placed visitors won't care about that if they can build a big lead.

  12. Essex under way at Canterburypublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Kent 226 v Essex 4-0

Harry Podmore has the new ball for Kent.

Five respectable deliveries, but the last is overpitched and Nick Browne puts it away through mid-off with the minimum of fuss.

  13. wicket

WICKET Hildreth lbw Hannon-Dalby 6published at 16:04 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Warwicks 419 v Somerset 44-3

Unconvincing by James Hildreth, who collects four runs off a thick outside edge from the bowling of paceman Henry Brookes.

And the right-hander departs in the next over as he plays slightly across the line to Oliver Hannon-Dalby and is leg-before.

Steven Davies is 27 not out, but this is not the kind of start Somerset wanted - and it becomes even worse as Pakistan's Babar Azam clips the next ball to Brookes at mid-wicket to register a golden duck.

  14. wicket

WICKET Stevenson lbw Clarke 51published at 15:52 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Hampshire 348-9 v Surrey

To answer the question I posed a short time ago (see 15:44 entry) the answer is an emphatic yes!

Rikki Clarke has his seventh wicket of the innings as he traps Ryan Stevenson just after he passed 50.

The ball swings through and hits Stevenson's back leg and he is plumb.

He starts to walk before briefly waiting for the umpire's signal to confirm his fate - I think he knew he was out.

  15. wicket

WICKET Abell b Brookes 10published at 15:50 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Warwicks 419 v Somerset 29-1

A major error of judgment by Tom Abell, who is cleaned up by Henry Brookes after shouldering arms to the final ball of the eighth over.

Steven Davies has made 22 from 28 balls so far and has now been joined by James Hildreth.

  16. Northants on top against Pearspublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Worcs 186 v Northants 342-7 - tea

Moeen Ali may finally have taken a wicket for Worcestershire, but it's Northants in the driving seat at Wantage Road after centuries by Alex Wakely and Dwaine Pretorius.

They lead by 156, with Saif Zaib 21 not out and Luke Procter on five. Moeen has so far taken 1-12 from 35 overs and it's Wayne Parnell who has been the pick of the Worcestershire attack with 3-65.

He bowled Wakely for 102 early in the session, but Pretorius hit three sixes and 15 foursin his 111 before being caught off Ed Barnard.

  17. Vilas gives Lancashire controlpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Glamorgan 257 v Lancashire 334-5 - tea

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

An aggressive century from Lancashire captain Dane Vilas has put his side in complete control against Glamorgan, reaching three figures off just 101 balls with consecutive sixes off spinner Charlie Hemphrey.

Graham Wagg ended the long vigil of opener Keaton Jennings, leg-before for 86, but Rob Jones played a competent support role in a century stand.

The new ball brought chances for Glamorgan, Jones edging Michael Hogan to slip and Lukas Carey putting down a return chance off Vilas on 116.

But it’s the visiting supporters among the packed 2,000 crowd who are enjoying the action.

  18. 50 runs

for Ryan Stevensonpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Hampshire 348-8 v Surrey

I'm pretty sure he won't care a jot, but that is one ugly shot to get to your half-century!

A big swing from Stevenson sees the ball catch the underside of the bat and almost take out his own stumps, but they remain in place and the ball rolls away to safety and the single brings up his 50.

It came from 90 balls in 100 minutes and his partnership with Kyle Abbott (61) is now worth 114.

It's a long time since Surrey made a breakthrough.

Six-wicket Rikki Clarke is now bowling, is he the man to do it?

  19. 100 runs

for Chris Dentpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Derbyshire 200 v Gloucestershire 227-5

Chris Dent flicks Logan van Beek down to fine leg for four to bring up a 223-ball hundred for Derbyshire and swishes his bat in celebration with a good deal more vigour than he has shown for much of what has been a patient and determined innings for his side.

It is the left-hander's 18th century in first-class cricket, and fourth of an excellent season. His side are 27 ahead with five wickets remaining.

  20. Umpires approve Canterbury re-startpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Kent 226 v Essex

Providing there is no more rain, Essex will begin their first innings at 16:00 at Canterbury.

Time for Sir Alastair Cook and Nick Browne to put the pads on.
