If at first you don't succeed.

    Relief for Mo at last!

  3. Positive start by Daviespublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Warwicks 419 v Somerset 12-0

Henry Brookes overpitches twice in his opening over and each time is driven down the ground for four by Steven Davies. No big effort needed by the Somerset opener, just good timing. That will do his confidence no harm at all, having been asked to move up from his usual middle-order position.

    Middlesex 75 & 4-1 v Sussex 309

Here we go again at Hove.

First over of Middlesex's second innings and Ollie Robinson bowls Stevie Eskinazi for four with one that goes straight through a narrow gap between bat and pad.

That's nine wickets in the game now for the Sussex all-rounder this time - having taken the first eight to fall on day one.

The action is back underway between Hampshire and Surrey, with former looking to head towards a total of 350 and the latter seeking to clean-up the final two wickets asap.

  6. Somerset begin replypublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Warwicks 419 v Somerset 2-0

Thankfully, the latest rain delay at Edgbaston was only a brief one.

Somerset's Tom Banton is carrying an injury, so Steven Davies has been pressed into service as an emergency opener, partnering Tom Abell.

Both batsmen take a single from Oliver Hannon-Dalby's opening over.

Durham broke the record for their highest score against Leicestershire for the second time in three seasons.

It had stood at 525-8 but today they declared on 544 after Brydon Carse was run out on 43, having lost his footing while coming back for a second run with skipper Ned Eckersley.

Chris Wright, out on the leg-side boundary, got the ball back to the keeper to see the Durham batsman off. It ended a partnership with Eckersley of 93 for the ninth wicket.

Having gained maximum batting points at home for the first time in two years, Durham have left Leicestershire with a massive task. The follow-on target is a mere 395!

    Middlesex 75 v Sussex 309

Tim Murtagh has bowled Will Beer to bring Sussex's first innings to an end at Hove.

England paceman Steven Finn was off the field at the time (see below) - but we hope he's ok.

Middlesex will begin their second knock 234 in arrears.

  10. rain stops play

Weather hold-up at Edgbastonpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Warwickshire 419 v Somerset

Why haven't Somerset started their first innings against Warwickshire? Because it's raining, of course.

There have been more in-out, in-outs around our nine grounds today than you'd get at the world hokey cokey championships.

  11. Yorkshire look to stretch leadpublished at 15:09 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Yorkshire 232 & 5-0 v Notts 184

A quick turnaround in Scarborough where Yorkshire's second innings is already underway.

Adam Lyth has all five runs so far, with Will Fraine joining him at the crease.

    The lead is 53.

  12. Rain clears in Surreypublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Hampshire 327-8 v Surrey

The rain has cleared at the Kia Oval and play will resume at 3.20pm.

Kyle Abbott and Ryan Stevenson will resume on 55 and 42 respectively.

They only need seven more runs to reach the 100 partnership mark.

  13. rain stops play

Lengthy delay on cards at Canterburypublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

Kent 226 v Essex - rain stopped play

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

The rain radar suggests this could be quite a long interruption.

Curiously there might actually have been three or four overs of the Essex innings had the covers not come on as a precaution between the innings. A case of the threat of rain stopping play.

The rain has now arrived and Essex will realise that their best hope now of forcing victory is to bat once and build a big first-innings lead.

The Kent lower order made batting seem straightforward against the older ball so the key to the Essex strategy will be getting through what could be a tricky final session this evening. Play before tea looks unlikely.

  14. 100 runs

Division Two round-uppublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

Dane Vilas has reached a superb century for leaders Lancashire at Colwyn Bay. He is 108 not out and they are 289-5, leading Glamorgan by 33 runs.

Durham have declared on 544-9 against Leicestershire at the Riverside after Brydon Carse was run out for 43. Ned Eckersley took the decision and left himself unbeaten on 71.

Steven Finn has taken his first wicket of the game at Hove, removing Sussex's Elliot Hooper for 20, but the home side are 300-9, a lead over Middlesex of 225, with Will Beer 76 not out.

Gloucestershire are now only 12 behind at Derby, with Chris Dent 75 not out in their score of 188-5.

  15. 100 runs

to Moeen Alipublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Worcs 186 v Northants 324-6

Sorry, we're being slightly facetious - by 100, we mean 100 runs conceded by the wicketless England spinner.

Worcestershire have removed Dwaine Pretorius for 111, caught at cover by sub fielder Josh Dell off Ed Barnard, but Northants lead by 138.

  16. wicket

WICKET Fletcher c Brook b Olivier 4published at 14:54 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Yorkshire 232 v Notts 184 all out

Olivier removed Moores with the first ball of the 60th over and takes out Luke Fletcher with the last.

There's no other way to describe Fletcher's shot as anything other than ugly, he takes a swipe and it balloons up in the air to be caught by Harry Brook.

That gives Olivier with four wickets, the bragging rights over three-wicket Ben Coad.

Notts trail by 48 and Yorkshire will look to stretch that margin today with plenty of overs left to be bowled.

  17. wicket

    WICKET Hannon-Dalby c Davies b Abell 13published at 14:52 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Warwicks 419 v Somerset

Great catch by Somerset keeper Steven Davies, who grabs the ball left-handed in front of first slip to bring Warwickshire's first innings to an end.

The wicket gives skipper Tom Abell figures of 2-31 and all eyes will soon be on Pakistan's Babar Azam in his first Championship inn ings for the club.

It's hard to see how the second-placed visitors can conjure up a victory from this position, but in cricket, all things are possible.

  18. wicket

WICKET Moores c Tattersall b Olivier 48published at 14:48 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Yorkshire 232 v Notts 179-9

The shower passed through quickly at Scarborough - a little too quickly for Tom Moores.

He's out with the first ball after the resumption following the rain delay just two runs short of his half-century.

Duanne Olivier has watched his colleague Ben Coad take three wickets and follows suit by grabbing his third.

  19. Records fall at Riversidepublished at 14:46 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Durham 532-8 v Leicestershire

Durham are chalking off one or two records at the Riverside.

This is their highest total in a Championship game against Leicestershire, beating the 525-8 declared made at Grace Road two summers ago.

And Ned Eckersley and Brydon Carse, now 61 and 41 not out respectively, have broken the club's ninth-wicket record partnership against the Foxes.

They have put on 81 so far, beating the 58 by Jimmy Daley and John Wood in Darlington in 1998.

  20. rain stops play

Essex reply delayedpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 19 August 2019

    Kent 226 v Essex

We are losing count of the number of interruptions at Canterbury. Is this the third or fourth?

Anyway, Essex must wait to start their first innings after finally bowling out the home side.

Seam bowler Sam Cook took the final wicket - that of Mitch Claydon - for figures of 5-42.

While we wait for the resumption, here's Kent's Sam Billings to show you to develop that he-man physique.
