The famous old saying is ‘Three times a bridesmaid, never a bride’.

For Essex, before today it was ‘Four times a semi-finalist, never a final’.

They did the hard part by just getting here, having comfortably disposed of Derbyshire earlier.

Now, having dismissed Worcestershire for just 145-9, they must surely be confident off taking that big final step and going all the way, to that first T20 triumph.

The best partnership of the day so far was between Cameron Delport and Tom Westley, who shared 78 for the first wicket in that second semi-final win over the Falcons.

If they can now couple up and do the same again, you’d think this game would be all but over!

    Thanks friend.

Is 145 enough for Worcestershire to defend? I don't know any more. Everything I thought might happen today hasn't.

The players are on their way back out.

It's been a long old day, hasn't it?!

After the best part of 100 overs, I'll hand you over to Gary Smeegle to talk you through the final 20 of this year's T20 Blast.

It looks like it's still spinning and it's still hard and gripping for the slower balls.

Worcestershire will be talking about that now - use all their skills, take all the pace off and make it as hard as possible for Essex. They'll back themselves to defend this as they did earlier in the day.

We're in for a real good final now.

I think Worcestershire will be a little bit concerned with that total, especially if the dew starts to take affect.

    Worcs 145-9 v Essex

And all of that means that Essex will require 146 to win the T20 Blast for the first time in their history.

Worcestershire defended a similar total in the semi-final... Can they do it twice in a day?!

    Worcs 145-9 v Essex

Brett D'Oliveira attempts one final big shot but can't loft it over Dan Lawrence on the rope and he falls off the final ball of the innings.

Four byes, a single, and four more from the bat of Brett D'Oliveira!

    Final ball coming up...

  10. wicket

WICKET Barnard c Westley b Bopara 5published at 19.2 overs

    Worcs 136-8 v Essex

And Ravi Bopara is delivering! After a scampered single from the first ball, Ed Barnard tries to scoop Bopara over the keeper's head... but instead dinks an easy catch up for Tom Westley.

  11. Worcs 135-7 v Essexpublished at 19 overs

Ravi Bopara will bowl the final over of the innings.

  12. Worcs 135-7 v Essexpublished at 19 overs

Six balls left for Worcestershire, then. If they can drag themselves up towards the total they managed to defend against Notts in the semi-final earlier - 147-9 - I think they'd take that.

  13. Worcs 130-7 v Essexpublished at 18 overs

There's some pretty glum-looking faces on the Worcestershire bench at the moment. Do they feel as though they're falling short?

    Ed Barnard joins Brett D'Oliveira.

    That's Dan Lawrence's lot - he's taken 2-26 from his four overs.

Brett D'Oliveira joins Ross Whiteley. Still a bit of work to do here.

  19. wicket

WICKET Mitchell c Delport b Lawrence 19published at 16.5 overs

    The wickets just keep tumbling.

Having plonked Dan Lawrence through the covers from the previous ball, Daryl Mitchell is again offered up some width but can only skew his shot to Cameron Delport.

It's game on now, Ross Whiteley comes in and if you're a Worcestershire fan then he's the man you'd want in with four overs to go.

He's the right guy at the right time.
