Roelof van der Merwe attempts a reverse sweep off Simon Harmer and although the ball comes off somwhere near the toe of the bat, it clears the fielder on the backward square leg boundary and brings him a second six.

Andersson drives Hudson-Prentice through point and down the slope for four and then switches to block mode for the rest of the over.
Good pace and carry as the keeper collects at head height.

Why bother getting your eye in - Roelof van der Merwe slog-sweeps his first delivery and clears the rope at backward square leg.
He follows that with a ramp shot for a single - clearly he's not prepared to let Simon Harmer bowl to him and await his fate.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice is bowling and Malan picks up a single to backward square leg.
Andersson looks to cut without any footwork and misses.

Somerset do bat deep and every run is going to be precious now.
Roelof van der Merwe has six first-class centuries behind him, but he watches from the other end as Sam Cook sends down a maiden to Dom Bess, including one delivery which leapt off a length and beat the outside edge.

Dom Bess is on strike and is fortunate to survive as one skids through low just past off-stump.
It's a maiden - and providing they can push this total on a bit, Somerset won't be too displeased to see uneven bounce.

We've been taking a look at the forecast for Taunton for the next two days.
Although more rain is expected later this afternoon, days three and four should be fine - if cloudy - during the hours of play, with any further bad weather concentrated overnight.
Maybe we are going to have the exciting denouement the County Championship deserves after all.
Remember, Essex only need to avoid losing the match to become champions, Somerset must win it.
