  1. Somerset 96-6 v Essexpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Abell 28, Bess 0

Dom Bess has made some useful runs for Somerset this season and they need a few more from him now.

Batting conditions are tough with a strong breeze blowing across the ground and the right-hander is beaten outside off-stump as he pokes at the ball unconvincingly.

    That's a wicket-maiden.

  2. No play so far at Hovepublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Sussex 150-5 v Worcs

The forecast is teasing us a little bit at Hove.

WICKET Gregory lbw S Cook 17published at 12:20 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Somerset 96-6 v Essex

Lewis Gregory comes down the pitch to his first ball from Sam Cook, then decides to offer no shot.

Strange thinking on his part - and he is gone. That's 3-9 now for Cook, who is in his 12th over.

Dom Bess is in to join Tom Abell.

  4. Somerset 96-5 v Essexpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Abell 28, Gregory 17

A single to Lewis Gregory through the leg trap is the only run from the latest Simon Harmer over.

Time for the powerful all-rounder to test himself against Sam Cook.

  5. Postpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra

"You've got Cook bowling well at Abell, it's conventional cricket on a slowish pitch. At the other end it's more harem scarem because the ball is turning sharply for Harmer."

Glamorgan held up by rainpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Durham 262-8 v Glamorgan

65 runs and two wickets in that mini session so Glamorgan will have to wait a bit longer for that third bowling point in a must-win game for their promotion chances.

BJ Watling once again has been a thorn in their side.

He survives on 104 not out in an innings lasting for more than five hours.

On the way to that tally he passed 9000 career first-class runs and notched up his 17th ton at this level.

  7. Somerset 95-5 v Essexpublished at 12:16 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Abell 28, Gregory 16

For once, Sam Cook's line and length are awry and Tom Abell whips a leg-stump half-volley away square for his first boundary of the day.

Somerset, of course, need to get on with it as they have to win this game to pip Essex to the title - and win it for the first time in the club's history.

It doesn't look hugely heavy at the moment but there is worse weather to come.

  9. rain stops play

    Durham 262-8 v Glamorgan

The covers are coming on and the players are off the field.

The umpires are having a chat in the middle.

  10. Somerset 91-5 v Essexpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Abell 24, Gregory 16

Simon Harmer drops short at the start of a new over and Lewis Gregory pulls it away to mid-wicket for four, the first runs of day two.

He obviously hopes fortune will favour the brave and collects two fortunate boundaries off the inside edge as he tries to come down the track to the off-spinner.

What will Harmer do now? He will bowl wide of off stump and Gregory will thump it away for the fourth four of the over.

    Crikey!

  11. Durham 262-8 v Glamorganpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Watling 104 Rimmington 8

The umpires are having a chat with the players - presumably about the light.

It looks like Glamorgan will have to switch to their slow bowlers and now Samit Patel is coming on.

A shorter ball is swiped away by Rimmington and Watling sprints for a very tight single.

    There's drizzle in the air...

  12. Somerset 75-5 v Essexpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Abell 24, Gregory 0

Somerset have yet to add to their overnight score and there is nothing doing in the latest over from Sam Cook as Tom Abell plays out a maiden.

"He hasn't bowled a bad ball in 10 overs," says former Somerset and England spin bowler Vic Marks.

Now, how will Lewis Gregory approach the task of facing Simon Harmer?

  13. Durham 261-8 v Glamorganpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Watling 104 Rimmington 7

Rimmington is in the mood and he smashes Carey through cover for four.

A clip off the legs for a single and he'll keep the strike.

The umpires are taking a light meter reading...

"Great start by Harmer. Bang on the money, tormenting Bartlett in the brief period he was there."

  15. Durham 255-8 v Glamorganpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Watling 103 Rimmington 2

Durham reach the 250 mark with a punch through cover point for one by Watling off Lukas Carey.

At the other end Watling tucks Hogan away to deep square leg for one.

Rimmington digs out a yorker and deflects a leg side ball off his pads for four leg-byes.

WICKET Bartlett c Bopara b Harmer 5published at 12:04 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Somerset 75-5 v Essex

George Bartlett doesn't look comfortable against Simon Harmer's off-spin, and after a tentative appeal for a catch earlier in the over, he is gone without addition as he deflects the ball straight to leg-slip.

Somerset's James Hildreth said last evening that they were hoping to reach 200 in their first innings - that's a long way off at the moment.

Lewis Gregory is the new batsman.

  17. Somerset 75-4 v Essexpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Abell 24, Bartlett 5

Sam Cook is right on the spot immediately and the ball fizzes past the shoulder of Tom Abell's bat.

Spinner Simon Harmer has the ball at the other end for Essex.

  18. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra

"It's quite blustery, there are clouds about but I think we are in for three or four hours of play."

  19. Somerset 75-4 v Essexpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Abell 24, Bartlett 5

The players are heading out to the middle at Taunton.

Sam Cook has one delivery to bowl to complete the over he started almost exactly 24 hours ago.

Somerset skipper Tom Abell will be on strike.

Watling sprints... and makes the single! That's his century.

    201 balls and ten fours.
