Play will resume at noon between Somerset and Essex - but the umpires have decided that there will be a lunch interval at 13:00. Some fans aren't happy with that decision.

from @d_ktalkballs: "I love cricket but sometimes it doesn't help itself. Resume play at 12, then off for lunch as normal at 1! Why not have lunch early and make hay? It's not like this is the Championship decider or anything....oh no, hang on... #SOMvESS, external#bbccricket, external#Taunton, external"

A bizarre four for Brydon Carse off De Lange as the batsman pulls a bumper and the ball flies off the top edge and over the keeper's head.

De Lange slips as he bowls his last delivery. It's a bit damp out there.

David Lloyd is getting some testing away-swing here.

The trousers of BBC Radio Derby commentator Dave Fletcher got a little damp on the way to Lord's this morning.

    Cool t-shirt, Dave!

By the way, the rain has returned so the scheduled 11:30 start for Middlesex and Derbyshire hasn't happened.

This match is moving along quickly.

David Lloyd continues from the Lumley End.

Watling is back and across to defend at first and then dabs the ball for two off the back foot in the off side.

A good stop by Lukas Carey to stop the boundary. Five overs before the new ball.

Division One leaders Essex made a bold selection for the game against Somerset, bringing in Aron Nijjar as a second specialist spinner - his first Championship appearance of the season.

Today is a big day for him in more than one sense.

    Watling 84, Carse 9

The new batsman is Brydon Carse.

Four leg byes off De Lange brings up the Durham 200.

Conditions are looking very grim and apparently it's raining not too far away in Harrogate.

Carse gets away with an edge wide of second slip for four and gets four more with a drive through the off side off David Lloyd.

  17. Noon start at Tauntonpublished at 11:18 British Summer Time 24 September 2019

    Somerset 75-4 v Essex - start delayed

Essex's Jamie PorterImage source, Rex Features

    Great news from Taunton.

Following an inspection, umpires Rob Bailey and Alex Wharf have decided that play will resume in the title decider at midday, assuming there is no more rain.

More surprising perhaps, is that the players will be going off after 60 minutes of play for a 13:00 lunch

It is hoped that 80 overs will be possible today - but that may be very optimistic.

    Glamorgan strike early!

Was that an intended leave or a very loose and crooked block from Ben Raine?

Either way Marchant de Lange gets the batsman to play on and his leg stump is uprooted.
