Van der Dussen exposed himself, stayed very leg side and opened himself up. He faced seven balls and he didn't look great. He was very tentative, his body shape was all wrong. He looked like a player who is used to facing an older ball not a hard, new one.

  2. SA 37-2published at 21 overs

England look a well-oiled outfit at the moment. It's impressive what runs on the board do. There was no big celebration of that wicket. It was almost just 'yep. You're out. Who's next?'

Nice ball from Curran, he pushed it across and there was good bounce. But that's not a great technique from a number three.

Van der Dussen c Stokes b Curran 0 (SA 37-2)

Well bowled! A fine over from Sam Curran and he's rewarded on the final ball when he finds Rassie van der Dussen's edge. It goes quickly off the bat but Ben Stokes has his catching mitts back on and takes a good, smart catch.

That was 84mph from Curran and hurried Van der Dussen. England are on the march.

Very good, Mike. I see what you did there. More runs come off Stokes' bowling but you can't criticise him here. It's a thick edge from Elgar that goes in the gap between second slip and gully.

Stokes will want to back that work from Wood and Woakes up in this spell. The all-rounder goes full in search of an lbw but Elgar flicks him off his toes for four.

Wood and Woakes have struck up a nice little partnership here, they haven't let South Africa get away.

That wicket-taking delivery was 94 and a half miles per an hour. That is about as quick as you see in the international game at the moment.

It's a pitch which is tough to get in on but England have their line and length right. I wouldn't be surprised if they get one or two more quickly here.

  14. SA 29-1published at 19 overs

Rassie van der Dussen is South Africa's number three in this match, having been promoted after they dispensed with Zubayr Hamza.

Mark Wood is punching the air as he runs down to his fielding position on the boundary.

Mark Wood has bowled really well in this spell after tea. It was a lovely length.

That should set England on their way now.

    Malan c Buttler b Wood 15 (SA 29-1)

Got him! That's the wicket England have deserved.

It's 152kph from Mark Wood. Seriously rapid. Around 94mph. Malan prods forward and gets a thin nick through to the keeper.

There is a nervy moment as the umpires check the no-ball but Wood is OK. Just. By a milimetre or two.

Wood and Woakes are bowling really well here.

  18. Statement on extra securitypublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2020

    Adam Mountford
BBC Test Match Special in Johannesburg

Officials at the Wanderers have made a statement in response to England’s request for extra security. It follows reported abuse aimed at Ben Stokes and the England backroom staff yesterday...

"Throwing additional numbers to a problem is not the solution. We have again reiterated to the field of play security (and other sensitive areas) to be more proactive in identifying spectators comments when players are in and around their respective areas.

"England security has agreed to ensure that at any given time at least one of them will be down at the tunnel entrance from field to closely monitor any comments from the spectators."

What is Ben Foakes doing today? It is a good day to be him with Buttler failing to score runs and dropping catches. Is he shopping somewhere? Maybe on a beach. I wonder if he is following proceedings.

Another good over from Woakes almost brings a first wicket.

You can tell from Buttler's response - he looked sheepish - that he was six inches from taking the catch.
