Umpire Richard Illingworth is holding his umbrella in quite a purposeful manner, using it to point to all parts of the ground.

Hold on, is that the sound of the hover cover I hear? Yes, it is. It's being wheeled off and it looks like a restart is imminent.

The temperature tent. I've lost count of how many times I've been checked. I went on a lap of the ground a little while ago. Because I went out of one door and back in another, I was done twice in 10 minutes.

The stats say it is a bat-first pitch here but the overheads have to come into it. I am a bat-first kind of guy but I would have been tempted to let Jimmy Anderson have a go on this.

Josh Roberts: Why have England decided to bat first here? Much harder to stop/start innings from a batting perspective with weather around and overhead conditions meant it would be a tricky day to bat. Jimmy would have had them 0-3 if we had bowled first!

Just watching a replay of that Dom Sibley wicket. It was nicely set up by Gabriel, a few going away followed by one that nipped back in. But nevertheless, a real error in judgement by the England opener. And this stop-start day due to the rain won't help with concentration levels.

Before that short-lived return of Test cricket, both England and West Indies players stood on the boundary rope, and in the middle, and took a knee to show their support to the Black Lives Matter movement.

It is a light mizzle. Off the players go. It was an eventful three overs. As a batsman you are going to find it a tough day in these conditions.

The good news is that only the hover cover is out, not the big sheets.

Just from the umpires' body language, you get the feeling that this may not be a long stoppage.

Tom Simpson: Reassuring that in such strange and difficult times; some things never change.

Alex Littlefield: Nothing says things are going back to normal quite like an English top order failure...

Neil Leverett: Well some things never change even in a pandemic. Cue the top order collapse.

    Not the start England wanted.

Joe Denly the new man in. You feel he needs a big score in this Test/series. The Kent man has played 14 Tests, averages 30 but is still searching for his maiden Test century.

It has started just outside off stump but you are taking a risk if you completely shoulder arms. West Indies will feel like they are in the game now. Great start.

    Sibley b Gabriel 0 (Eng 0-1)

With just the 10th delivery of the day, we have a wicket.

Having seen his opening partner leave one and just about get away with it in the previous over, Dom Sibley shoulders his arms and you hear that gorgeous sound of the ball hitting off stump. Terrible leave.
