Tom Hill: Ben Stokes cleverly making a tactical error as captain so he doesn’t get asked again and can go back to what he does best.

The covers are back on. I can't see any drizzle but clearly there is. We might not start after lunch.

You know I said "we might be alright for the rest of the day" (see 13:27 BST entry) ... I'm sorry...

We've had a little bit of a shower. But the umpire has his umbrella down so all being well we'll be good to go again shortly.

John Petrie: Jimmy Anderson must be salivating at the prospect of being out in the middle in these conditions (his bowling that is, not his batting)

  6. Weather forecastpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

I'll be honest, I didn't quite think we'd see an uninterrupted session having seen the dark clouds hovering over the Ageas Bowl this morning.

And it looks like we might just be alright for the rest of the day.

Thomas, you're not the only one to question Ben Stokes' decision to bat first. Although there is one chap who doesn't agree with you...

Thomas Clarke: That decision to bat first is questionable at best. Exposing an unproven and heavily scrutinised batting line up to favourable bowling conditions, versus bowling with the fearsome fast/swing bowling combination. England on the backfoot before start of play.

It's a good cricket wicket, it's not a 400 plus wicket. If you get it right as a bowler, there's definitely something in it.

    Nice one, Matt.

I’ve got a brew, a variety of sweet and savoury snacks and am good to go.

Yesterday’s stop-start day was frustrating for both England and West Indies fans.

Today has been frustrating just for the hosts.

Well I hope that session brought a sense of normality back to you.

I'm off to the kitchen cupboards to find myself something to eat. Kal Sajad will take you through lunch and the afternoon session.

Away from this match, in the last few moments England have named their ODI training group for the three matches against Ireland which start on 30 July.

With the final match starting a day before the Test series against Pakistan, none of the current Test players are included, so there are nine uncapped players.

Eoin Morgan (capt), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Tom Banton, Sam Billings, Henry Brookes, Brydon Carse, Tom Curran, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Laurie Evans, Richard Gleeson, Lewis Gregory, Sam Hain, Tom Helm, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Matt Parkinson, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, James Vince, David Willey.

The players will train behind closed doors at Southampton - the venue for the ODI series - from 16 July and play two intra-squad practice matches on 21 and 24 July.

Paul Collingwood will take charge of the side as Chris SIlverwood focuses on the Test side.

West Indies have got very little from the umpires. They've used the review system very well.

West Indies were so close to having the perfect session.

This was the only mistake. How costly could it prove to be? You don't drop Ben Stokes.

There are a few light spots of rain falling, and it has got very dark. Without the floodlights, it seems pretty unlikely we'd still be playing.

Around the England dressing room, I've spotted that the man running the drinks is wearing some blue rubber gloves.

Some members of the coaching staff have taken seats high in the Rod Bransgrove Stand, like football managers in the directors' box. The body language is slightly dejected.
