Ahhh. That could have been a career highlight.

We'll have one more over before lunch.

Walking around the concourse, I had to stop myself near the sightscreen as Joseph bowled to Stokes. Being the person to interrupt play for a sightscreen indiscretion in a behind-closed-doors Test would be a low point.

  3. Eng 100-5published at 41.2 overs

I can't say England coach Chris Silverwood is looking overly thrilled, rubbing his face with his hand, as his side edge to 100.

Ollie Pope had looked so good but then...

  5. Eng 97-5published at 41 overs

    Stokes 20, Buttler 1

Once Roach got there you feel you could, probably should, have caught it.

Stokes proves just how costly that could be with a commanding pull at the end of the over for four. That was much better than the one a few balls earlier.

Difficult chance on the run for Roach. Stokes getting into a tangle. It would have been a fine catch if he had taken it.

This is the most fascinating over of the match so far with Joseph having Stokes dropped and hitting him on the arm as well.

  7. dropped catch

Stokes dropped on 14published at 40.2 overs

A big, BIG, let-off. It was almost a whole lot worse.

Alzarri Joseph bangs in a bouncer and Ben Stokes goes for the pull but top-edges it.

The ball is in the air a long while and Kemar Roach gets there running around from fine leg but the ball spills out of his grasp as he dives forward.

Re: Mark (see 12:38 BST entry) ... You could equally argue that a lot of the wickets the greats of the past got would have been given not out on review by the batsman.

Even if there was fans at the ground now, the atmosphere would be about the same. Glum-faced England supporters sitting in silence. We're just missing the occasional grumble.

  10. Eng 88-5published at 39.4 overs

    I know the feeling, Teddy.

Jos Buttler has rainbow stickers on his bat in support of the NHS and care workers during the coronavirus pandemic. He tucks one off his hip to get off the mark.

Teddy: Why do I love cricket so much when it causes me this much agony?! Why did I think that it would be a glorious return for English batsmen? Why do I put any faith whatsoever in an English top order? So many questions...

  12. Eng 87-5published at 39 overs

Stokes looks like he's going to dig in until lunch.

Who is now wishing cricket could have just been postponed for a bit longer?

  13. Eng 87-5published at 38.4 overs

New season. New world. England still need Ben Stokes to rescue them.

Oliver: Buttler and Stokes should just bat like its an ODI - at least we score runs in that format.

Stuart Mitchell: Look on the positive...our bowlers can do this to West Indies.

  15. Eng 87-5published at 38 overs

    Stokes 13, Buttler 0

Jos Buttler is in after 38 overs. Don't forget England have a very long tail in this match. There's no Woakes, Curran or Moeen (or Leach) to bail them out.

It has been an exhibition of Test bowling this morning.

You can see from Pope's reaction it's a soft dismissal. He will be disappointed there. It was a good ball but he was trying to fiddle it away to third man, it was almost a one-day shot.

That's rather a tame dismissal for Pope. He looked so assured.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 37.4 overs

    Pope c Dowrich b Holder 12 (Eng 87-5)

OK. Now we're back. England are in deep, deep trouble.

It's more good West Indies bowling with Jason Holder finding just a bit of nibble. Pope feathers an edge through and after a composed start he's the fifth batter on his way.

  19. Eng 87-4published at 37.3 overs

A little harsh I'd say, Mark. On the second review you could forgive the umpire for thinking there was an inside edge.

I think umpires gave plenty that were never out back in the day too.

Is today proving that these umpires just aren't good enough? And also highlights how many more wickets the greats of past would of got with the review system.
