  1. Eng 67-3published at 32 overs

    Crawley 10, Stokes 5

And another edge! Crawley had a full swing at this one and he chips the ball through the gully. England are in a real test in their first proper day of cricket since the restart.

Crawley takes the bottom hand off the bat, right at the last minute. I like the way he defends that delivery. Has the presence of mind to realise he's in a bit of danger.

  3. Eng 63-3published at 31.5 overs

This is top stuff from West Indies. Holder finds Crawley's edge but the ball drops short of third slip.

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

These West Indies players and staff are playing with a 50% wage cut because of the coronavirus. That's another reason to support them.

  5. Eng 63-3published at 31 overs

There's a lot of Stokes' lockdown lid peaking out from the back of his helmet. He obviously hasn't had the time to get to the barbers.

Roach is round-the-wicket in the first over after drinks and the final delivery is a peach. It's just what Roach was looking for. Full, a hint of movement away from Stokes but a whisker away from the edge.

  6. What time is tea?published at 12:07 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

Yesterday's rain and bad light mean we have some overs to make up today, so we have slightly tweaked session times for you...

    • 11:00-13:00 - morning session
    • 13:30-13:40 - lunch
    • 13:40-15:55 - afternoon session
    • 15:55-16:15 - tea
    • 16:15-18:30 - evening session (play can continue until 19:00)

A reminder that there are 98 overs to be bowled in the day.

Drinks break - Eng 62-3published at 12:05 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

That's drinks. On come the groundstaff with their face masks to do some tidying up of the pitch.

Here are the highlights of that tricky first hour from England's perspective.

  8. How's stat?!published at 12:03 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

    Andy Zaltzman
Test Match Special statistician on Test Match Special

Shannon Gabriel has bowled the top three England batsmen unassisted, so bowled or lbw.

He is the first bowler to do that since at least 2001.

  9. Eng 62-3published at 30 overs

    Crawley 5, Stokes 5

Captain Jason Holder has brought himself back on in place of Gabriel.

It means we now have the number one all-rounder in the world bowling against the number two all-rounder in the world.

Stokes is walking down the pitch to Holder with his pace about 10mph slower than Gabriel. Holder beats the edge to end the over.

  10. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 9 July 2020

Shannon Gabriel's brilliant early spell is done. Five overs and he's taken both wickets...

    Carlos Brathwaite
West Indies all-rounder on BBC Test Match Special

The beautiful thing the last few overs, is the slips and keeper sprinting end-to-end. It's beautiful to see them keep the pace of play up and make up for lost time and overs yesterday.

  12. Eng 62-3published at 29 overs

    Crawley 5, Stokes 5

I've just flicked the TMS commentary with no crowd noise on. You can do the same at the top of this page.

Another yelp of an appeal really comes through the stump microphones as Roach hits Stokes on the pad.

Listening without crowd noise really gives you a sense of the eerie silence much of this match is being played in.

Can you spot the drone? Top right of the shot. It is one of three things currently providing the soundtrack to the action. The buzz of the drone, the low hum of the M27 and the chatter of West Indies fielders.

  14. Eng 60-3published at 28 overs

    Crawley 4, Stokes 4

It's not too big a hole yet but Stokes has to work to do to get his side out of this tricky spot.

He pulls for four for his first runs as skipper.

Andy Roberts: Still can’t understand why Stokes didn’t bowl first. With these conditions, all the batting team can do is lose the game - they can’t win it. On top of that we have an inexperienced (read: average) top order, who were never likely to dominate the bowlers.

  16. Eng 56-3published at 27.3 overs

Shannon Gabriel is into his fifth over of the morning. First Stokes edges one into the ground when trying to leave and then uncomfortably plays one into his pad.

It's a battle in the Southampton murk.

That's a lovely shot, a crisp off-drive, a nice way to get off the mark.

  18. Eng 56-3published at 27 overs

    Crawley 4, Stokes 0

You've missed the buzz of England wicket alerts really, haven't you?

Crawley is off the mark with a positive drive for four when Roach gets a little too full.

Patrick: Brave, but potentially foolish, to bat first. Pitch might deteriorate but looks like England will bat in poor conditions and be out just in time to allow West Indies to bat when it's sunny tomorrow.

Alex Hardy: Ah, the sound of English wickets tumbling in the morning. Some normality restored.
