  1. WI 235-5published at 15:53 British Summer Time 10 July 2020

    Chase 27, Dowrich 30

Chase continue to play in the same manner as he has for most of the afternoon against the seamers, defending well and picking up the ones and twos when offered a bit of width.

Mark Wood takes a bit of time to complete the over. We might have to wait for after tea to see England have a crack with the new ball.

Another fine, tidy over from Bess with a good bit of bounce. Just a single from it.

The sun is shining over the Ageas Bowl. It really is chalk and cheese weather compared to what we had over the first two days.

Two more overs until the new ball. Will we get it before the tea break?

It took Roston Chase 74 balls to get from 10 to 20.

This is quick bowling but a sluggish wicket. If this was at the Waca the batsmen wouldn't be playing as comfortably.

  6. WI 232-5published at 15:45 British Summer Time 10 July 2020

    Chase 24, Dowrich 28

Shane Dowrich has an answer for Wood's pace as he opens the face of the bat and cuts it perfectly through point for four. Classy shot.

A lead now of 28 with 10 minutes to go until tea.

It would have been a brilliant catch. Dowrich came down the wicket and has middled it. The replay makes it look quite easy but we need to see it in real time.

    WI 228-5

Shane Dowrich with a few steps down the track and drills the ball back towards the umpire's head. Dom Bess tries his best to take what would have been a fantastic catch above head height, but can't hold on.

This would have been some grab. It was hit hard. Very hard.

Greg Holmes: England should at least have had Broad or Woakes playing. Broad is the 2nd biggest wicket-taker over the last year!

    Lead by 23

Has there ever been a five-minute period when Mark Wood hasn't smiled? After completing the over - a maiden - the seamer is in his typically jovial mood as he performs a little dance in the direction of Rory Burns.

Is Wood on TikTok? If not, he should be.

If England can keep the lead under 75 I think we're in with a chance so long as we see some proper gutsy batting from the top four. Bess looks like he could be the match-winner on a day five pitch if it gets to that.

I'm all over the show here. When the sun hit the hotel, it was genuinely warm, so I went for some shorts. Now the sun has gone in, I'm cold. I've got shades on, but the floodlights are in use. Discombobulated.

    Chase 24, Dowrich 25

Dom Bess races through another over and West Indies take a couple of singles.

It's all looking a bit too easy for the tourists at the moment.

Dowrich has now scored 25 runs from 31 deliveries, overtaking Chase, who has been out there for 96 balls, scoring 24.

That was just a hint of reverse swing from Mark Wood. We are not talking Waqar Younis reverse swing but just a hint.

Good stat from Andy Zaltzman there. Having dismissed England for a low total, how important will all these small contributions from the West Indies batsmen prove to be?

Back of a length from Mark Wood as it strikes Roston Chase on the thigh pad and races down to the fine leg boundary. Wood asks the question but it was definitely going down leg - albeit he was on his own with that appeal, quite similar to when he was belting out 'Jersualem' from the team balcony during last week's intra-squad match.

All of West Indies' batsmen have reached double figures. No team has done that against England in the last 20 matches they have played.

    Bess 15-4-47-2

There's been a lot of love for Dom Bess on social and in the texts today, as the Somerset man returns for another bowl.

He darts one in and Chase tickles it down to third man for three runs. Bess offers a bit more flight but it's too wide and Dowrich pounces on it, driving through mid-off for four.

England will want the sun to stay out now. They want the pitch to go up and down but I think it is dying of pace.

  19. WI 212-5published at 15:21 British Summer Time 10 July 2020

    Chase 18, Dowrich 20

Mark Wood into the attack with this partnership now worth 26 as Dowrich steers towards point for a couple of runs.

Nine overs until the new ball, just under half an under until tea.

It's interesting to watch Jofra Archer go about his business this afternoon. Not quite as quick, fuller length, but still with nothing in the wickets column. There's frustration. Sometimes it's a slump of the shoulders, other times it's a scratch of the head. No lack of effort, though.
