That Root wicket was very close to being a back-foot no-ball.

  3. Eng 85-3published at 32 overs

    Joseph 1-13

Full, on the pads, and crisply whipped away by Ben Stokes to get himself going.

Ooft. Stokes is cut in half by a beauty from Joseph, the ball just skimming over the top of the stumps,

Ben Stokes, who might have worse hair than Joe Root, is the new man.

    Root c Holder b Joseph 23 (Eng 81-3)

Oh, have a word with yourself, Joe.

It's just the second ball after drinks, speared a touch wide by Alzarri Joseph, and Root goes after it like a terrier chasing a treat. A thick outside edge flies to Jason Holder - who else? - and the ball is nestled safely in Holder's hands before Root has had time to turn around. A fine partnership ended, and England's captain is on his way.

Alzarri Joseph will get us going after drinks.

Excellent from England after losing Zak Crawley so quickly.

That was a very good delivery from Jason Holder.

  12. Eng 81-2published at 30.2 overs

Edged - and safe once again!

Loose from Dom Sibley, throwing his hands forward at Jason Holder, and the ball pings off the outside edge and trails through the gap between slip and gully for four. That'll be the 50 partnership up, too, from 102 balls.

That is a shame. I guess this vindicates why England have rested a couple of their seamers. It puts West Indies' bowling attack under a lot of pressure now.

Gabriel is stretching. Is it a thigh problem? Keep an eye on that.

  16. Eng 74-2published at 30 overs

    Root 20, Sibley 29

Dom Sibley takes a smack on the ribs as he lets a short ball from Kemar Roach go past him, and there's almost a horrible mix-up as he and Joe Root debate taking a quick single.

Hmm. Shannon Gabriel is doing quite a bit of stretching as he walks back to his mark. It's a heavy walk he's got going on...

Brownies made by Alastair Cook's wife Alice and daughter Isobel. I can confirm that they are unbelievable. There's nothing that family can't do.

I live on my own so I've spent quite a bit of lockdown on my own. Which means my conversation skills aren't quite what they used to be. So far, Matt Henry and I have discussed our most expensive household purchases, how much haircuts cost and what the best national anthem is.

That four, incidentally, was the first of Dom Sibley's 91-ball innings.
