Why aren't the players put on a bus and then just transported here, if there is such a complete and necessary level of restriction?

I would think the management would feel very let down. He's a silly lad.

What's very important is, if he's going to be sat in a room for five days, I hope he's not just left alone to be sat on his own. I hope there is communication and an aspect of people realising yes, he's made a mistake, but you've got to look after his wellbeing.

England have not made any changes to the squad announced yesterday.

That means there'll be no Anderson or Wood despite the loss of Archer.

Nick Hall: Not sure why England are punishing themselves by resting Wood. Archer had to be dropped but surely leave your options open if it’s a fast, bouncy wicket? Has to be Broad, Woakes and Curran now.

Fenners: Can we not bring Jimmy back in at short notice???

Only one story in town at a wet Old Trafford this morning. The Archer news shows just how seriously England are taking the bio-secure environment, even if something as simple as going home seems like a minor breach.

It's a blow for the team, and a huge shame for the man himself, who was the only member of the pace attack from Southampton retained for this match.

  6. What's the weather forecast?published at 10:22 British Summer Time 16 July 2020

    Weather forecast

Unlike the first Test where I was speaking to you from my living room, I am back in our Salford office for this match.

It means I can give you accurate weather updates at least.

It is the first time I have been back across the Pennines since lockdown began and, somewhat surprisingly, it was drizzling as I made my way through the doors. It was type of weather fans of Manchester stereotypes would love.

I am reliably informed the drizzle has now stopped but it is still damp and grey.

    We may get interruptions.

Archer seemed to have found his rhythm on the final day of the first Test.

His absence will be a blow.

It will mean England have a completely new bowling attack from last week.

We'll find out who plays at the toss but it will be between Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran and the uncapped Ollie Robinson.

It does throw it into a little bit of disarray, in terms of England have obviously been very clear in the way they want to take this bowling side forward.

They wanted to have some pace and bounce in their bowling attack throughout the summer but now they're going to be robbed of that.

It'll be another character test for the side.

England say Archer went to his home in Brighton between the two matches which broke the bio-secure protocols this series is being played under.

Archer's breach only came to light on Wednesday night, after he was named in the 13-man squad.

England have not named a replacement, with the starting XI for the Test due to be confirmed at the toss.

Archer said: "I am extremely sorry for what I have done.

"I have put not only myself but the whole team and management in danger. I fully accept the consequences of my actions and I want to apologise to everyone in the bio-secure bubble.

"It deeply pains me to be missing the Test match, especially with the series poised. I feel like I have let both teams down, and again I am sorry."

    Well, sadly no.

England's preparation has been rocked this morning by the news Jofra Archer has been excluded from this Test after he broke the bio-secure protocols.

He will not be able to play.

That comes after England took the curious decision yesterday to rest Jimmy Anderson and Mark Wood for this match. This is Anderson's home ground remember.

And that follows England leaving Stuart Broad out of the first match before going on to lose.

It didn't take long for the wheels on the England bus to start wobbling.

    Hello. Good morning.

    Did you miss us?

We've hardly had chance to catch our breath from the first Test but now we're back again for the second.

West Indies are 1-0 up in the series but the England skipper is back. Surely things will go smoothly for the hosts now?

    Surely...
