West Indies have not bowled well at all so far. The amount of balls that have been off target has been too many. These two have brought a bit of control back.

  2. Eng 17-0published at 10 overs

    Burns 5, Sibley 6

Jason Holder climbed up to number two in the bowling world rankings this week after his exploits in the first Test. He was already the number one all-rounder.

Even he has been a little wide in his first two overs but he is still finding swing.

Before today, there had been 19 Tests in a row on this ground where the team that won the toss chose to bat.

    Burns 5, Sibley 5

Rory Burns pops his head out of his early-innings bunker, checks the situation and decides it's time to show a little more intent.

He leans on a full ball and plonks the ball down the ground for a couple.

In his past 10 Tests, Jason Holder has taken 57 wickets at 12.49.

  6. Eng 13-0published at 8 overs

    Burns 3, Sibley 4

West Indies have helped them and this all seems to be going too well for England. It's too quiet. Something's going to happen.

It looked very, very difficult for Shannon this morning. The good thing is he got the ball to move through the air.

A double change of bowling. Jason Holder brings himself on.

  9. Eng 11-0published at 7 over

Andy looks like he could be driving a space ship behind the screens. No wides in Joseph's first over but the England openers haven't been truly tested yet for six balls in a row yet.

Jason Holder is a lovely man but is also ruthless. He hasn't liked what he has seen from his opening bowlers and makes an early change by bringing Alzarri Joseph on.

Burns might have hit it, it might have pitched outside and it might have been missing off stump... so it didn't have much going for it.

  13. Eng 9-0published at 6 over

West Indies wayward start might actually be making this awkward for England's openers. They have no idea where the ball is going.

Gabriel gets one right and it hits Burns' pad but looked to be missing the stumps.

I doubt this is how Shannon Gabriel envisaged his first over going...

Whereas Southampton was open, surrounded by green, with tress wafting in the distance, Old Trafford is urban, enclosed and busy. It gives a greater feeling of being hemmed in, with little to be seen other than offices, the car park, and the other Old Trafford in the distance. No sign of the drone, either. Perhaps it can't fly so close to the city.

  16. Eng 9-0published at 5 overs

Kemar Roach bowls one to first slip now. West Indies were so good in the first Test but this has been ropey.

That should have been the final ball of the over but Roach has to go again after Michael Gough quite rightly signals a wide.

    That looked quite high.

  18. Eng 8-0published at 4.1 overs

Our first real appeal of the morning comes when Kemar Roach finds movement onto the pad of Dom Sibley. That looked to be going down the leg side for me.

    Plenty of swing though.

Shannon Gabriel hasn't got his radar right. Having won the toss and decided to bowl, the skipper will be wanting the batsmen to play a little more.

    Burns 0, Sibley 3

You can't argue with today's decision by West Indies. It's as gloomy as childhood camping trip to the Lake District.

West Indies won't want to waste the conditions. Gabriel loses his line again.
