    BOOM!

This is why you give Stuart Broad the new ball.

He's been bang on the money straight away and he gets a little bit of movement off the seam and entices a prod from Kraigg Brathwaite and it's a comfortable catch for Joe Root at first slip.

It almost slips out but the England skipper holds on.

    Fantastic start for England.

  2. WI 1-0published at 1.1 overs

Stuart Broad will share new ball duties and there's a strangled appeal for lbw straight up but that looked leggy.

At tea on the fourth day of the second Test, England were nowhere near winning this series. Now, they have a real opportunity. You feel like they have the momentum and that batting could be very difficult for the next couple of hours. Could England even bowl out the Windies today?

  4. WI 1-0published at 1 overs

James Anderson strays a little bit too straight with his final delivery and Kraigg Brathwaite gets off the mark with a flick off his legs.

Anderson was bowling from the Brian Statham End rather than the end named after himself. Interesting.

  5. WI 0-0published at 0.1 overs

James Anderson get us under way and there's a bit of shape there straight away.

The England players are strolling out to the middle alongside Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell.

There are some terrible barnets in the England team at the moment. Jos Buttler confirmed before play this morning that they are going to be allowed out of the bubble before the Test series starts against Pakistan on 5 August. Let's hope a few visit the barbers.

May I ask a question please: was Root given out incorrectly, the wicketkeeper knocked the bail away when it could have dropped back in place?

    Alan, Cheltenham

Of course you can, Alan. If you watch the slow-motion replays on our clip below, you can tell by the way the bail is going that it isn't going to drop back into place so Joe Root was given out correctly.

The afternoon session will be getting under way shortly.

Who will take the new ball for England? The old trusted guard of James Anderson and Stuart Broad with Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes as first change bowlers?

England have packed their attack for this game with doubts over Ben Stokes' ability to bowl because of a little groin niggle, don't forget.

James Anderson scored 11 useful runs before he nicked off to leave England 369 all out.

Unfortunately, like all good things, Stuart Broad's innings came to an end but not after it had done immense damage to the West Indies.

Broad's 62 was his highest score in seven years and he brought up his half-century off just 33 balls to score England's third-fastest 50 in Test cricket.

James: Stuart Broad rolling back the years and bringing back his no fear batting.

Enter Stuart Broad and the wheels falling off for West Indies.

We know the left-hander is vulnerable to the short-ball and pitch-up tactic but his pull for six off Kemar Roach got Broad ticking and what followed was simply superb.

    I disagree, Mark.

Gabriel and Roach did bowl superbly but Test match cricket is about battling through those tough periods and coming through the other side.

England don't do that often enough at the moment. They lose wickets in a spurt far too often for a side that wants to be the best in the world.

Mark Burt: A lot of people haven’t a clue about cricket. Gabriel and Roach bowled fantastic. Sometimes a ball has you’re name on it. This isn’t a collapse, it’s the ebb and flow of Test cricket.

However, Ollie Pope didn't make the most of his reprieve as he played across the line and was bowled by a pumped-up Shannon Gabriel.

That left England 262-5 and that soon became 280-8 as Chris Woakes, Jos Buttler & Jofra Archer all got fell in quick succession. Jason Holder is a superb slip catcher.

West Indies line and length was superb this morning.

Their discipline and catching let them down early on as Rahkeem Cornwall dropped Ollie Pope while Shannon Gabriel had a strong lbw shout halted by a huge no-ball.

That ninth-wicket partnership of 76 between Stuart Broad and Dom Bess could be really crucial in the context of this game.

Will England have taken 369 at the start of the day when they resumed on 258-4? No.

But will they be happy having been 280-8? Absolutely.

Michael Vaughan, earlier, said 310 was "plenty" on this pitch against this West Indies batting side.

We'll find out throughout the rest of the day if 369 is enough for England to control this day and win the Test and series around any dodgy weather we may get.
