It was certainly an eventful 60 for Pakistan's opener!
James Anderson won't be working Babar Azam over any more as Stuart Broad replaces Jimmy.
A maiden from Sam Curran.
England are sensing an opportunity to build pressure here.
This was a high-class shot from Babar Azam.

It wasn't pretty but Abid did a decent job for Pakistan. He isn't the quickest between the wickets, mind. Babar was looking like he could lap him.
Babar Azam doesn't look entirely comfortable and you're starting to get the feeling that James Anderson is starting to work him over.
Babar is playing for a bit of in-swing but it isn't really there at the moment as he's beaten three times during the over - two on the defensive prod and then with a half-hearted cut.

Well done to Sam Curran, just at a period where England had let it drift a bit after the break.

Abid took 111 balls for his 60. He hit seven fours, he was dropped on 1 and 21. He got well over half his runs behind square.
Asad Shafiq is the new batsman and he also has a tentative push at Sam Curran first up.
Pakistan need Babar Azam to go big here.

That was just absolutely in the bread basket, he didn't have to move at all.
Abid c Burns b Curran 60 (Pak 102-3)
Golden-arm Sam Curran strikes!
I was just preparing to write that Curran was lacking a bit of potency and that Stuart Broad was loosening his arms down at fine leg but as he so often does the left-armer finds a way.
He gets a little bit of shape away, and perhaps most importantly a little bit more bounce to entice the prod from Abid Ali and Rory Burns takes a fairly comfortable catch at second slip.

That was a mixed over from Anderson. It might be he was having trouble with his footing.
A tad short from James Anderson and Babar Azam, playing off his feet on the back foot, flicks superbly through mid-wicket for his first boundary.
That was beautifully timed.

Sorry to say, heavens just opened again in Christchurch (Dorset). Fear you'll have more rain in half an hour or so...
Simon
All pretty easy for Babar Azam as he takes a couple off Sam Curran's seventh over.
Pakistan great Shahid Afridi challenged Babar to become a match-winner this week. Can he post a big score and put Pakistan in a strong position?
Sam Curran is going to continue.
Big call from Joe Root seeming Stuart Broad hasn't bowled for well over an hour and a half.

That is Abid's third score of 50 or more in seven Test innings. He converted the previous two into centuries.

The balance throughout the innings started to improve for Abid. There are still technical issues that the swinging ball could expose but the main thing for Pakistan is that he's still there.
Stuart Broad has just dropped tiny bits of sawdust all the way along James Anderson's run-up.
That rain delay is obviously causing the 38-year-old some issues and has no doubt slowed the outfield down somewhat. It doesn't stop Anderson causing Abid Ali to have a prod off the final delivery. Jimmy slants his head in disgust.
The sun is coming out now and conditions are becoming more batsman friendly all of a sudden.
Ooh! There's a third fifty-plus Test score for Abid Ali but it comes up in slightly streaky fashion as he edges James Anderson through the slip cordon for a couple.
The ball didn't carry so not a case of poor fielding/bad drops again.
