    Abid 28, Azhar 2

Nice, tidy bowling from Dom Bess. A maiden.

Right then, on the back of all these dropped catches, I want you to tell me about times you might have messed up at work. I'll kick things off...

I was an aspiring journalist, on work experience with BBC Radio Kent. I went to a Gillingham Football Club news conference to find out more about their new signing, a Sierra Leone striker called Albert Jarrett.

I was told by someone in the office that there was a silent t in Jarrett. So I went to the Gills manager: "Will your new signing, Albert Jarrayyy, feature this weekend?" ...

"What are you talking about, son? Have a day off. Do you mean Jarrett?," was his reply.

There was a lot of laughter in the media room. I still cringe to this day.

I think this is going to be a session of patience for the England bowlers.

  3. Pak 55-1published at 28 overs

Short stuff from Jofra Archer which Abid Ali deals with, ducking and allowing it to sail over his head.

Archer goes full, on middle and leg, and it's worked square of the wicket by Abid for a single, before Azhar Ali helps himself to two more.

    Easy runs.

Strange day. There was a time during the rain delay that we thought we'd need an ark to get out of Southampton. When the umpires came out to inspect, they tip-toed through the puddles like they were surveying the damage in a house flooded by a burst pipe. It's beautiful now, though, the clouds rolling past in the style of the opening credits of The Simpsons. Obviously the floodlights remain on...

  5. Pak 52-1published at 27 overs

Bess, with his shades on, finds the perfect length and has the ball bouncing into the foot marks and turning into Abid Ali. If he keeps bowling in that spot, he'll cause this pair some trouble.

If you're going to keep saying, "That would've been Jimmy's 600th wicket" every time a chance goes down, then surely you also need to take into consideration ALL the chances that went down on the long road to 598? He should probably be on 700+ by now.

    Thanks, Amy.

A change in the live texter brings a change in bowling also, as Dom Bess replaces James Anderson.

A nice mixture of lengths from Jofra Archer, and Abid Ali plays his way through a maiden.

Phil Campbell: Thank you Stuart Broad, it's (possibly stale) doughnut time!

Imagine if Broad takes all 10...

    ...oh, wait, Jofra's coming on.

This is hostile stuff from James Anderson. This is not your classic Anderson. He has suddenly turned into Curtly Ambrose.

  14. Pak 51-1published at 25 overs

Three short balls in the over for James Anderson to Abid Ali, and there's a leg gully in place, too.

Abid times the final ball of the over well enough for a couple of runs.

    It kept very low.

  16. Pak 49-1published at 24 overs

Live, to me, that lbw looked obvious. It does, admittedly, look a little more wonky on the replay but when I first saw it, I thought, that's out.

    One down, nine to go.

There was no shot and that always makes the umpire think.

That was extraordinary, it was just shaping back enough and it would have been just the tiniest of kiss on the off stump.
