    Pakistan trail by 230 runs

Abid Ali seems to go through every shot in the book before opting to leave a wide delivery from Dom Bess. First he looks to sweep, then leave, then dab it towards short third man, before opting to leave again.

Bess is too short as Pakistan sneak a single to mid-wicket to end the over.

This pair are playing nicely. They should be fancying scoring a few on this pitch. It's doing nothing for the seamers and a bit for Dom Bess. He's just got to get that ball a bit wider.

  4. Pak 79-1published at 42 overs

Lovely stuff from Stuart Broad. As he did in his previous over, he continues to bowl short and England think they hear a noise as it goes through to Buttler down the leg side. Joe Root opts not to review, and he was right in his decision. The ball brushed Azhar's shirt rather than the bat.

Bowling round the wicket, Broad then has the ball continue to move away from the right-hander, Azhar playing inside the line.

    Azhar 14, Abid 40

One slip and a short leg in place as Dom Bess bowls to Azhar Ali. The Pakistan captain is forward and blocking, before a push towards point adds one more to the tourist's total.

Winston, the groundsman's dog, is getting a lot of attention from the TV cameras. I am loving that he has his own accreditation.

Interesting that England are asking Stuart Broad to serve up the short stuff, rather than Jofra Archer.

A bit of chin music, by the looks of it...

And Stuart Broad is greeted by a four first up. There's a leg slip in place but Abid Ali manages to tickle it fine enough to send it to the rope.

Broad comes back well by banging it in short for the rest of the over. At 514 Test wickets, he's five shy from Courtney Walsh's 519.

Kind words from one my favourite players to ever grace the game.

Stuart Broad returns to the attack.

    Azhar 13, Abid 36

That's brilliant, Paul. I sympathise ... I once bunked sixth form and was seen by classmates on the TV - I was standing near Tower Bridge in London and watching magician David Blaine's 44-day stint in a box.

More runs for Pakistan, a paddle-sweep from Abid Ali for three and then Azhar Ali glances Dom Bess down to fine leg for four more.

I once called in sick and was later that day seen on TV, BBC1, Centre Court, cheering on Roger Federer with a pint of beer in each hand ! Oops.

Shot! That's the first boundary in a while. Azhar Ali leans in and plays with a straight bat, past a despairing, diving Jofra Archer at a wide mid-on.

Isa, do you remember when you dropped a catch off Katherine Brunt? You'd think she'd have forgotten it by now but if you drop a spoon at breakfast she still brings it up.

Being locked overnight in a fully-stocked bar... doesn't sound too bad to me.

Bess continues and there is some solid, trouble-free defending from Abid Ali before he edges past slip for a streaky single.

Abid Ali has 32 from 122 balls, Azhar Ali has 5 from 34.

Sam Redford: In the early noughties, I managed a bar in London. Locked up for the night. Came back next morning to find a window completely smashed. I'd locked a punter in for the night and they smashed their way out...

Azhar Ali thought that would bounce a little more. He dropped his hands and ended up skewing it off the top of the bat. He got away with that.

  19. Pak 61-1published at 36 overs

    This could have gone anywhere!

It's far too short to pull, Azhar Ali top edges and it loops over the head of Rory Burns at slip. Azhar done a full pirouette after playing that shot as he tried to locate just where he sent the ball.

I accidentally wiped 3000 pages of content on a client's website on a Friday afternoon! I had to spend the weekend painstakingly restoring them one by one.
