  1. Eng 7-1published at 2 overs

    James Vince...

We all know the right-hander loves a drive and a fiddle outside off stump. Like he so often does, he nicks this one but he flashes hard enough that it goes over the slip cordon and away for four.

    Not the most convincing start.

Jason Roy is currently stood at the top of the steps to the England dressing room, slouched over and looking down at the floor. Not happy.

James Vince can get in a mindset where he is too boundary-hungry. But when you're batting with Jonny Bairstow you should know the scoreboard is taken care of - he doesn't need to compete for scoring quickly.

  4. Eng 2-1published at 1 over

This is a massive opportunity for James Vince now.

He's got the chance to bat pretty much the whole innings and post a huge score and set this international career going.

It's just not happening for Jason Roy at the moment. That's a bit loose early on. That's just creeping in to his batting, it wasn't really there to drive.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 0.5 overs

    Roy c Balbirnie b Young 1 (Eng 2-1)

Jason Roy doesn't take his opportunity.

Roy missed most of the warm-up games before this series with a little niggle and he's looked rusty throughout. He drives hard at the ball and a thick edge is well pouched by Andrew Balbirnie at second slip.

Roy has only scored 26 runs in the three-game series.

I wasn't expecting England to make changes. The run chases have been small so this is a good opportunity for the likes of Jason Roy who hasn't fired yet to get the full 50 overs to bat. Jonny Bairstow will want to keep the form going and Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali will want a good stint at the crease.

  9. Postpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

After the two sides and umpires take a knee again to support the Black Lives Matter movement, Craig Young will get us under way with Jason Roy on strike.

After the minute's silence for John Hume the umpires and the two sides are making their way out to the middle.

Ireland do look outgunned. They did make England stutter in both games but they just didn't have enough runs on the board to start with and they came up against Sam Billings and David Willey, who are England's two form players.

It's a nice change to see England batting first - we could see plenty of runs if they come off.

There will be a moment’s silence before today’s game - and black armbands will be worn by both teams - in memory of Northern Ireland politician and Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume.

  14. Postpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie on Test Match Special: "We just have to get beyond just getting England to stutter,

"We want to be beating these teams and we have to be more ruthless."

  15. Postpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

Eoin Morgan will be looking for England to be much better today. They've been a 7/10 at best in the opening two games.

This is a good opportunity for Jason Roy, James Vince and Tom Banton to all spend some good time in the middle and post a big target.

  16. Postpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 4 August 2020

England captain Eoin Morgan on Test Match Special: "When you look at the World Cup qualifying competition and that every game holds the same value it means there are no dead rubbers and this match still means a lot."

As has been the case in this mini series so far, the weather looks set fair in Southampton.

We should, fingers crossed, get a full game in without any interruptions.

James Vince really needs a score today after only scoring 25 and 18 in the first two games.

His opportunities to succeed at international cricket must be starting to run out now. Today is his 16th ODI and he only averages 23.5 at the moment.
