And that is the end of the day at Trent Bridge.

Another eventful one with plenty of runs and wickets.

Nottinghamshire build on their first-innings lead of 85 as they close on 84-3 to move 169 ahead.

Leus du Plooy grabbed the headlines earlier on with a superb counter-attacking 130 off 177 balls for Derbyshire.

Without an incredible last-wicket stand, his side would be a long way out of this game.

Haseeb Hameed (pictured above) and Steven Mullaney will resume for Notts on day three.

  4. Still going at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:59 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

End of the day at Taunton and without doubt, Somerset's day.

Thanks to the Overton twins, they skittled out Glamorgan for just 131 earlier and then have gone on to build an imposing lead in their second innings.

Skipper Tom Abell (44 not out) and James Hildreth (45 not out) both moving towards half-centuries as 296 runs is their lead heading into day three.

Durham edge themselves into a slender lead thanks to their patient and disciplined second-innings batting display so far.

Alex Lees unbeaten on 58 playing the key role for the hosts.

  7. Durham into the leadpublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

What a finish to the day down on the south coast.

Hampshire keeping themselves right in this tight contest with those late wickets.

Mason Crane almost had another in the final over as Delray Rawlins just had enough on his slog sweep to clear the deep mid-wicket boundary.

Sussex head into day three with a lead of 178 with four second-innings wickets in hand.

    Finely poised.

  10. Clarke departs for 2published at 18:23 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire (324 & 41-3) lead Derbyshire (239) by 126 runs

What an afternoon Derbyshire's Sam Connors has had!

First he was five not out as part of an 80-run final wicket partnership with centurion Leus du Plooy, and he's just trapped Joe Clarke lbw for his third wicket of Notts' second innings.

Clarke goes for two and Notts may have a 126-run lead but they're in a spot of bother on 41-3.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Salt c Fuller b Organ 80 (Sussex 176 & 143-6 v Hampshire 153)

What a dream finish this is to the day for Hampshire.

Phil Salt the latest Sussex wicket to fall in quick succession and what a key moment that could be in the match.

James Fuller takes the catch at backward point to give Felix Organ another wicket and now Sussex's lead of 166 does not look quite so secure with just four wickets in hand.

  12. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Warwickshire (369-8) lead Northamptonshire (142 & 19-0) by 208 runs

Northamptonshire survive seven overs at the end of the day and close on 19-0, trailing by a rather large 208 runs.

Day two belongs to former England all-rounder Tim Bresnan and his knock of 105 on his Warwickshire debut, which has put the Bears in control at Edgbaston.

Ben Curran and Emiliano Gay have a lot of batting to do for Northants tomorrow.

  13. And another late scalp for Hants!published at 18:18 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Sussex (176 & 143-5) lead Hampshire (153) by 166 runs

Hampshire bag another Sussex wicket late in the day.

Mason Crane the bowler this time as he dismisses nightwatchman Jack Carson for a duck.

Carson doesn't think he's got an edge on it through to wicketkeeper Lewis McManus but up goes the finger pretty sharpish even though he makes a TV referral symbol in protest.

No such DRS in these games I'm afraid!

  14. Close of play at Bristolpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Gloucestershire (267) lead Worcestershire (223-2) by 44 runs

Worcestershire have picked up where they ended day one, having the better of this match.

They polished off the Gloucestershire tail this morning and then Daryl Mitchell (80) and Jake Libby (77) made a 152-run opening stand to put them ahead in the game.

Tom Fell and Jack Haynes have since taken on the mantel and they close just 44 runs adrift of the Pears first-innings total, with eight wickets in hand.

    Brown c Came b Organ 25 (Sussex 176 & 142-4 v Hampshire 153)

Into the last three overs of the day at Hove and Hampshire are continuing to scrap even though Sussex look to be building a decent lead.

Ben Brown falls to the spin of Felix Organ as Harry Came takes the catch at short leg.

Phil Salt continues to play a key hand at the other end with 79.

    Sussex lead by 165 runs.

  16. Close of play at The Ovalpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Surrey (189-3) trail Middlesex (347-6 dec) by 158 runs

And that's the end of the second day south of the River Thames.

Both sides could arguably claim they're in a decent position here.

Scott Borthwick's unbeaten 73 leading the way for Surrey, who go to the close trailing by 158 runs after Middlesex earlier declared on 347-6.

  17. Connors gets second Notts wicketpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Nottinghamshire (324 & 39-2) lead Derbyshire (239) by 124 runs

    Sam ConnorsImage source, Rex Features

Sam Connors got rid of Chris Nash with the second ball of the Notts innings and comes back into the attack to bring the end of Ben Duckett.

The right-armer tempts Duckett into a flick which is easily caught behind by Harvey Hosein.

The hosts haven't pressed home their advantage here and are 39-2 as Joe Clarke joins Hasseb Hameed.

  18. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Leicestershire (183-2) trail Lancashire (322) by 139 runs

They've also reached the end of day two at New Road, where Ben Slater's century for Leicestershire has been the standout moment.

The on-loan Nottinghamshire batsman will start on 105 tomorrow morning, with the Foxes 183-2 - still 139 runs before Lancashire's first-innings total.

Still plenty of time in this game.

  19. Close of play at Chelmsfordpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Essex (179-5) trail Kent (387) by 208 runs

    Kent cellyImage source, Getty Images

And that's stumps on the second day between Essex and Kent.

Kent in the ascendancy after reducing Essex to 144-5 in reply to their imposing 387.

Ryan ten Doeschate (22 not out) and Adam Wheater (24 not out) have stood firm to try and move Essex towards avoiding the follow-on, but the county champions will still have plenty to do on day three.
