Becoming a familiar sight now as cricket returns, regular breaks for the players to sanitise their hands.

Both teams at The Oval also using different areas of the ground than usual for their changing rooms as social distancing measures are enforced as much as possible.

  2. Glamorgan dismissed for 131published at 14:59 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Somerset (296) lead Glamorgan (131) by 165 runs

Glamorgan all out at Taunton for just 131.

With a lead of 165, usually Somerset would have the chance to enforce a follow-on in a County Championship fixture but for this competition, that score has been adjusted to 200.

Craig Overton with figures of 5-38 and his brother Jamie with 2-15.

They'll be a wait though before Somerset begin their second innings as a brief shower has seen the covers rolled on.

  3. 50 runs

50 for Jake Libbypublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Gloucestershire (267) lead Worcestershire (130-0) by 137 runs

Debutant Jake Libby joins fellow Worcestershire opener Daryl Mitchell in reaching his 50.

These two are going along beautifully for the Pears, who are 130 without loss.

Gloucestershire need a breakthrough as their 267 is now looking a bit short.

  4. Third innings starts at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Durham (103 & 5-0) trail Yorkshire (199) by 91 runs

This match is progressing at a rate of knots despite a couple short rain breaks along the way.

Alex Lees and Sean Dickson have commenced Durham's second innings, hoping to score more than the 19 they managed between them yesterday.

First and foremost they'll need to pass Yorkshire's first-innings total of 199.

  5. Yates goes but Bresnan bats onpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Warwickshire (225-6) lead Northamptonshire (142) by 83 runs

Spare a thought for Warwickshire opener Rob Yates who has lasted 262 balls for his 88 before being caught off the bowling of Jack White.

But Tim Bresnan remains in position on 52, with the Bears 225-6 at Edgbaston and approaching a lead of 100 runs over Northamptonshire.

  6. Yorkshire all out for 199published at 14:43 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Durham (103) trail Yorkshire (199) by 96 runs

Yorkshire fall an agonising one run short of a batting point at Chester-le-Street.

Ben Coad leaves his bat dangling beyond off-stump and edges Paul Coughlin behind on 28.

He was going along at nearly a run a ball and despite missing the batting point Yorkshire have a handy 96-run first-innings lead over hosts Durham.

Surrey (55-1) trail Middlesex (347-6 dec) by 292 runs

Painful moment for Mark Stoneman at The Oval as he is struck on the hand by a surprising delivery from James Harris.

Takes a long break to get some treatment from the physio leading to a pause in play.

  8. 100 runs

100 partnership for Worcestershirepublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Gloucestershire (267) lead Worcestershire (106-0) by 163 runs

In their maiden first-class innings opening the batting together, Worcestershire's Daryl Mitchell and Jake Libby reach their 100 partnership.

Mitchell sits on 59 in Bristol, having been more the aggressor, with Libby back on 39.

It's been a good day for the Pears, who bowled out their hosts for 267 earlier.

Craig Overton already has his five-wicket haul and now twin brother Jamie has got in on the act.

The Surrey-bound seamer gets Glamorgan's Marchant de Lange caught at mid-on for eight and the visitors are 100-8 at Taunton.

Somerset smell a massive first-innings lead.

  10. Surrey reach 50published at 14:35 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Surrey (50-1) trail Middlesex (347-6 dec) by 297 runs

A glorious cover drive for four from Scott Borthwick off James Harris brings up the Surrey 50.

Still looking like a pitch where you need to keep your patience in order to score runs.

    Du PlooyImage source, Rex Features

Leus du Plooy has passed the 50 mark for Derbyshire, reaching the landmark in 93 balls, but Derbyshire are crumbling around him.

They've slipped from 119-3 at lunch to 134-7 at Trent Bridge, well adrift of Nottinghamshire's 324 first-innings total.

It all started with a run-out and Joey Evison has three wickets since for the hosts.

    Westley c Kuhn b Stevens 13 (Kent 387 v Essex 41-2)

    Darren StevensImage source, Getty Images

It's a first wicket of the summer for 44-year-old Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens!

Essex batsman Tom Westley gets a big nick and is duly caught at slip, departing for 13.

The hosts - who have already lost Alastair Cook - are 41-2 at Chelmsford and struggling a tad against a Kent side who have runs in the bank.

  14. Five-wicket haul for Craig Overtonpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Wagg c Hildreth b C Overton 28 (Somerset 296 v Glamorgan 95-7)

On Saturday his twin brother Jamie sealed a move to Surrey but today the headlines are all for Craig Overton after a fine five-wicket haul.

Graham Wagg edges to slip and Glamorgan are 95-7, trailing by a massive 201 runs at Taunton.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Tim Bresnanpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Warwickshire (219-5) lead Northamptonshire (142) by 77 runs

A half-century for Tim Bresnan on his Warwickshire debut!

The ex-England all-rounder, 35, left Yorkshire after 19 years this summer and seems to be settling just fine, reaching 50 off 110 balls.

At the other end opener Rob Yates is still there on 88 - the Bears are building a big advantage over Northamptonshire.

  16. Hampshire all out for 153published at 14:09 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Sussex (176) lead Hampshire (153) by 23 runs

At one point it seemed that Hampshire would go into the second innings at Hove with a lead but three wickets each for Ollie Robinson and Mitchell Claydon have helped skittle them out for 153.

Keith Barker is the last to fall for four, with debutant Ajeet Dale the not out batsman for Hants.

Half-centuries for Phil Salt and George Garton on day one now look incredibly useful for Sussex, who have a slender 23-run advantage.

  17. Ones to watch: Middlesexpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    James Harris

Middlesex will be well aware they have a shot at winning the first-class competition which otherwise would not be available to them this year due to their Division Two status.

The 2016 County Champions were relegated in 2017 and after a stale 2018 began a rebuild with coach Stewart Law last season.

The new captain and overseas player Peter Handscomb will not be available for this year's competition with his contract being pushed back a year due to Covid-19, so Stephen Eskinazi will take the helm and he and a number of other batsman will be looked upon to come of age this year given Handscomb's absence and the departure of Dawid Malan to Yorkshire.

The bowling ranks look as strong as ever for Middlesex, but James Harris' emergence as a solid all-rounder will be crucial to the balance of the side.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Critchley run out 45 (Nottinghamshire 324 v Derbyshire 119-4)

Derbyshire's 93-run fourth-wicket partnership ends in calamitous circumstances.

With the first ball after lunch Leus du Plooy and Matt Critchley get in an almighty mix-up over taking a run - ending up at the same end.

Despite some initially mediocre Notts fielding Critchley is short of his crease as the bails are taken off and Derbyshire are 119-4, with Du Plooy on 46.

Outstanding concentration from young Warwickshire opener Rob Yates - 83 not out in four-and-a-half hours at the crease - has kept the hosts firmly in charge at Edgbaston.

Partnerships always the key, and two 50-plus stands involving Yates, Michael Burgess and Tim Bresnan thwarted Northamptonshire's hopes of a sustained breakthrough in the morning session.

Not flashy cricket but thoroughly absorbing.
